R12 perspective-refresh — cohort bifurcation: generation leg holds, IPP leg de-rated
- Type: refresh (subtype: re-grade)
- event_id:
2026-05-19-ai-power-bottleneck-r12-cohort-bifurcation - Source: R12 post-R11 perspective-refresh fanout —
workflow/RUNS.md2026-05-19 r12-perspective-refresh-fanout; tape frompublished/research-notes/2026-05-19-r11-stale-thesis-check.md(2026-05-18 closes). - Shift: The cohort has bifurcated. The generation-side neocloud / fuel-cell / gas-turbine leg is holding hard — BE strong-up +62.7% 3M, CORZ strong-up +31% 3M, GEV strong-up +21% 3M. The utility/IPP leg promoted to
key_tickerson 2026-05-04 (CEG/VST) has de-rated hard — VST strong-down -37.8% from 52wk high, CEG strong-down -36.5% from high; CRWV up but -11.6% 30D. The flatkey_tickerslist no longer reflects the split. - Effect on thesis: HOLD — the core thesis (electricity generation gates AI capex) is not broken; the generation leg is paying. But the IPP expression of it has de-rated and the cohort needs explicit tiering. Re-grade the IPP leg (CEG/VST/TLN) to
weakening; keep them inkey_tickers(the thesis still logically implies the IPPs — see the 2026-05-04 "key_ticker selection too narrow" note) but flag the bifurcation. The why of the utility/IPP de-rate is not derivable from tape — routed to the next full scan as a fundamentals check, not asserted here. - Per-ticker: BE ↑ (generation-leg anchor, +62.7% 3M), CORZ ↑ (+31% 3M), GEV ↑ (+21% 3M, gas-turbine OEM holding), CRWV ↓ (-11.6% 30D, cooling), CEG ↓↓ (strong-down, -36.5% from high — IPP leg de-rated), VST ↓↓ (strong-down, -37.8% from high), TLN ↓ (IPP leg, re-grade by association — verify next scan)
- Unresolved check: why did the IPP leg de-rate while the gas-turbine/fuel-cell leg held? Fundamentals read needed next full scan.
