Thesis: Superconducting pure-play with a real 108-qubit GA system but tiny revenue (~7M), a thin balance sheet (~48M cash), and a government-contract-dependent model — the dilution-risk lottery ticket among the survivors; watch, high-risk

Verdict: Research-only / watch, not a buy — the highest-risk lottery ticket among the quantum survivors. This is a primary-source pass in a wider quantum-compute deep-dive program. RGTI has a genuine shipped product, but a tiny-revenue income statement, a thin balance sheet that structurally requires dilution, a stock in drawdown, and insiders selling — it fails a trend-hold buy test on every axis at once. No perspective. The house view on quantum stays skeptical-but-watching.

The Story Right Now

Rigetti is the superconducting pure-play in our quantum-computing universe (IONQ, RGTI, QBTS, QUBT, INFQ). Unlike its sibling INFQ, there is no boring revenue-generating business stapled on to fund the moonshot — RGTI is a near-pure pre-commercial quantum-computing bet that funds itself almost entirely through the capital markets. The product is real: Cepheus-1-108Q, the company's first 108-qubit general-availability system, went live in Apr 2026 on AWS Braket and Rigetti's own QCS, at 99.1% median two-qubit and 99.9% median single-qubit gate fidelity. The flagship Ankaa-3 (84 qubits, Dec 2024) hit 99% median iSWAP / 99.5% via fSim, and a 336-qubit Lyra processor targeting "narrow quantum advantage" is expected later in 2026. This is not a slide deck — there is shipped, externally-accessible hardware.

The income statement is the problem. FY2025 revenue was $7.1M — tiny, and roughly flat-to-small relative to a multi-hundred-million-dollar market cap — with Q1'26 revenue of $4.4M. The company lost −$84.7M at the operating line in FY2025 (−$26.0M in Q1'26) and burned −$58.5M of operating cash over the year. Against that $58M/yr burn sits only **$48.1M of cash and equivalents** at Q1'26. That is the thin balance sheet of the survivors: roughly a year of runway on cash alone, which means RGTI structurally funds itself through ATM/equity raises — dilution is not a tail risk here, it is the business model. That is the single most important fact about this stock.

One trap to flag up front, because it will mislead anyone who reads only the net- income line: Q1'26 net income printed +$33.1M — and that is NOT a profit. It is a non-cash, mark-to-market gain on warrants/derivatives, not operating earnings. Strip the accounting noise and the quarter was a −$26.0M operating loss with −$16.2M of cash burned. Anyone presenting RGTI as "GAAP- profitable" is reading a derivative remeasurement as if it were the business. The business loses money every quarter and funds the gap with stock.

The tape says the same thing the fundamentals do: $18.36, down 25.43% over the trailing 30 sessions (range $17.71–$28.06). That is a deep drawdown, not a secular uptrend, and it sits on top of a deeply loss-making, tiny-revenue, insider-sold income statement. A trend-hold approach buys confirmed bottom→pop→flag→breakout trends; RGTI is the opposite of that today. Real hardware milestone, real science, real drawdown — interesting to watch, not a position.
