Thesis: Rocket Lab is the clearest public #2 to SpaceX in launch — Electron flying small payloads today, the reusable medium-lift Neutron coming next — wrapped around a larger, recurring Space Systems business (satellites, spacecraft, components). It's a fast-growing (+63.5% YoY) franchise with a fortress balance sheet, but it burns cash and just got cut ~44% in a month alongside the rest of the space complex.

Verdict: Research-only / WATCH — same shape as the PL call, one notch lower quality. RKLB is down −43.7% in 30 days, −44% off its high, below SMA20 ($107.66) and SMA50 ($105.80) in a weak-down "pullback" regime at RSI 37. Unlike PL it is cash-burning (operating cash flow −$165.5M FY25), insiders are dumping at an extreme rate (0 buys / 65 sells, −$777M), and an 8-K dropped today (2026-06-29) that has not been verified (news pull throttled). The long-term uptrend is technically intact (golden cross, +12.9% above SMA200), so this reads as a deep pullback in a secular winner driven by a sector-wide unwind — but it fails trend-hold confirmation outright. Conviction LOW on the timing, medium on the launch/Neutron thesis. A speculative nibble is defensible only with eyes open to the cash burn and today's unverified filing; the confirmed entry is a reclaim of the SMA20/50 band (~$106–108).

The Story Right Now

Rocket Lab is two businesses. Launch: Electron is the most-flown US small-lift rocket after SpaceX, and Neutron — a reusable medium-lift vehicle aimed squarely at the Falcon 9 class — is the company's defining future catalyst. Space Systems: satellites, spacecraft platforms, reaction wheels, solar, and components — already the larger, more recurring share of revenue, and the part that makes RKLB more than a launch-cadence story. The bull case is that RKLB is the only vertically-integrated, public, end-to-end space company positioned to take share as launch demand and the satellite buildout compound — the #2 brand in an industry whose #1 (SpaceX) just IPO'd and validated the whole category.

The financials say "big and growing fast, but still spending to build the future." FY2025 revenue was $601.8M — nearly double PL's — growing +63.5% YoY, with a 75% earnings beat rate. But where PL is operating-cash-flow positive, RKLB is burning: operating cash flow was −$165.5M in FY25 and −$50.3M in Q1 2026, operating loss −$228.8M / −$56.0M. The offset is a genuine war chest: $1.21B cash + $177.9M short-term investments = ~$1.39B liquidity at 2026-03-31. So solvency isn't the question — Neutron development and scaling are funded for years — but this is a "spend now to win later" profile, not a self-funding compounder, and the path to cash generation runs through Neutron actually flying and Space Systems scaling.

The tape is broken in exactly the same way PL's is — which is the tell. At ~$84.54 (Fri 2026-06-26 settled close), RKLB is −43.7% over 30 days, −44% off its high, RSI 37, below SMA20 ($107.66) and SMA50 ($105.80), weak-down, regime "pullback." But it's still +12.9% above a rising SMA200 ($74.89), golden cross intact, and +38.8% over the last 3 months — the drawdown is recent and violent, not a multi-quarter breakdown. PL fell −46%/30d over the same window. Two unrelated space names down ~44% together is a sector unwind, not company-specific breakage — the most likely driver is a "sell the news" rotation out of the high-beta space complex after the SpaceX IPO debuted 2026-06-12. But RKLB also filed an 8-K today (2026-06-29) and insiders have sold −$777M — so there may be a company-specific layer (a capital action / offering would fit both the filing and the selling) on top of the sector move. That filing is unverified (news throttled) and is the first thing to check.
