Memory’s Next Test Is Customer Consumption

SNDK $1,299.30 -14.5% 30d MU $878.84 -5.2% 30d STX $639.01 -18.4% 30d WDC $332.00 -20.4% 30d

WATCH $SNDK: a new flag and held base must precede a close strictly above $1740.00. Friday’s September 4 close equaled that reference. TrendForce’s September 7 DRAM forecast sharpens the sector’s customer-demand test, but it does not supply Sandisk’s NAND pricing evidence.

The September 4 AI Scan highlighted $MU, $STX and $WDC’s large annual gains; all three rose that Friday alongside $SNDK. Monday’s forecast cannot explain those moves. DRAM, NAND and hard disks also have different supply economics.

Low supplier inventory leaves customer demand unanswered. TrendForce describes server-focused additions while PC and phone buyers face affordability pressure and some server demand shifts to lower-capacity modules. Buyers economizing before new supply arrives is the risk to test; the forecast does not establish a turned cycle.

Reported assessment or forecast Evidence needed next
Historically low DRAM supplier inventory Customer inventory and actual consumption; producer stocks cannot establish either.
Moderating conventional DRAM contract-price growth Realized prices by product. Slower growth does not establish a declining-price quarter.
Bit growth expected mainly from node migration, with modest wafer-start growth Dated capacity additions and actual production. Process upgrades do not establish accelerated greenfield supply.
Some server demand shifting toward lower-capacity modules Named HBM order changes. Conventional module choices do not establish HBM cancellations.

The September 1 TrendForce enterprise-SSD report adds a separate NAND question: estimated revenue strength meets potential competition from expanding Chinese supply. Watch enterprise-SSD pricing and supplier margins on their own terms. Neither report establishes nearline hard-disk capacity or pricing.

The pricing case remains open. These industry forecasts establish neither customer stockpiling nor realized supplier-margin deterioration. Micron’s issuer-confirmed September 30 results call is the next fixed review point; a material pricing, capacity or customer-order disclosure would justify an earlier review. Its results will inform the DRAM question without settling NAND or hard-disk economics by themselves.

Desk Call

Field Call
Stance WATCH — $SNDK.
Entry A new flag and held base, then a close strictly above $1740.00. Friday’s equal close leaves this condition incomplete; require Sandisk-specific NAND pricing and demand support.
Invalidation Failure of the new base, or verified NAND price declines alongside customer inventory accumulation or material order reductions.
Review by September 30, 2026; earlier on a new flag or a material Sandisk pricing, capacity or customer-order disclosure.
