POET Price Structure
Loading timeframes…
POET Technologies Inc. is cratering: 64.4% below its 52-week high, down 1.2% since August 28 and down 24.8% since June 29, and 11.1% below its 200-day average. At the 2026-09-28 settled close, POET $7.41 was -3.5% versus its 20-day average and -1.2% over 30 days. POET's August 13 Q2 release reports $569,925 of NRE and product revenue versus $268,469 a year earlier (+112.3%). The tiny base leaves the commercial proof at order-to-shipment conversion, not the growth percentage. Roughly $2.3M of revenue since 2020 (Wolfpack's count), a Canadian-domicile PFIC tax overhang, and securities class-action deadlines noted in the pull. The standing call is 🔴 Out — business-quality veto (pre-revenue story stock). No entry until a quarter above $5M of revenue · reference stop $6 · first target $12 · speculative.
Quick Snapshot (as of 2026-09-28)
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| The call | 🔴 Out — business-quality veto (pre-revenue story stock). No entry until a quarter above $5M of revenue · reference stop $6 · first target $12 · speculative |
| What is POET? | A Canadian photonics company whose Optical Interposer integrates lasers, silicon-photonic waveguides and electronics into chip-scale optical engines for AI data-center links. |
| Why look now? | Prior case (2026-09-23): The September 17 Q2 release: revenue up 112% YoY in a sixth straight quarter of sequential growth, net loss narrowed to $11.3M, cash of $796.3M after a $400M financing, and the Lumilens order (issuer release). |
| What is the proof? | An order with a named counterparty is new evidence; revenue is not. Investing.com's page in the same pull says the quarter missed forecasts ($570K against about $950K expected; EPS -$0.07 against -$0.04). |
| What is the objection? | Roughly $2.3M of revenue since 2020 (Wolfpack's count), a Canadian-domicile PFIC tax overhang, and securities class-action deadlines noted in the pull. |
| Stock setup | The long trend is under test below its 200-day average; -3.5% versus the 20-day, -11.1% versus the 200-day, RSI 44.2. |

Prior Research (prepared by 2026-09-23; current call and filed-period check above)
What POET Actually Does
Product: the Optical Interposer™ — a wafer-scale platform that integrates III-V laser chips, silicon photonic waveguides, and electronic dies into a single integrated package. The pitch: replace discrete pluggable optical modules with chip-scale optical engines that go into hyperscaler switches and AI accelerators.
Why it matters: the AI datacenter is a bandwidth bottleneck. Co-packaged optics (CPO) and on-package optics are the next-gen solution. POET's interposer is one approach (alongside competing approaches from Intel, Broadcom, Cisco, Lumentum, MACOM, etc.). At 1.6Tbps per engine, POET is in the same conversation as the leaders.
Status: "commercialization underway" per their March 2026 announcement. Demoed publicly at OFC 2026 (the Optical Fiber Communications conference — the major industry event). Won ECOC 2025 "Most Innovative" award. So real product, real demonstrations.
The catch: revenue is tiny. Wolfpack's claim of ~$2.3M total since 2020 is consistent with a company that's been demoing for years but hasn't hit volume production. The leading-indicators tool shows +1075% YoY revenue growth — but off a near-zero base (the tool's rate isn't reproducible from the annual filings, which compute even higher; either way the dollar base is ~$1M). So small absolute numbers, large percentage growth.
Where POET Fits in the Optical Supercycle Thesis
The April 28 full scan called this cohort the cleanest extended thesis on the board, and every reporting optical ticker in it was strong-up. That was five months ago, and the cohort has since handed the move back:
| Optical cohort | 3M to 2026-04-28 | 3M, live as of 2026-09-28 |
|---|---|---|
| AXTI | +319% | 3.09% |
| AAOI | +247% | -35.5% |
| LWLG | +227% | -45.53% |
| AEHR | +207% | 3.93% |
| LITE | +107% | 8.21% |
The right-hand column is live and moves with each settled close; the read here is dated. On the September 23 close, three of the five were positive over the trailing quarter — AXTI (+4.05%), AEHR (+2.29%) and LITE (+11.21%) — while AAOI (-31.24%) and LWLG (-37.19%) were down by about a third; all five sit far below April's triple-digit runs. The supply-constraint argument has not been disproven, but the tape that made it look proven is gone, and what follows sizes POET against a cohort that has handed most of the spring move back.
POET fits at the smallest, highest-beta end of this trade. Compared to peers:
| Ticker | Market Cap | Stage | Risk Profile |
|---|---|---|---|
| LITE | $80B+ | Established laser/component supplier (NVDA EML monopoly via Lumentum) | Lower-beta core position |
| COHR | $30B+ | Established optical components (cross-thesis hits in 4 traces) | Lower-beta core |
| CIEN | $30B+ | Optical networking (Ciena) | Lower-beta core |
| AAOI | $5B+ | Mid-cap optical, parabolic | Moderate-beta extension |
| AXTI | $1B+ | Compound semiconductor substrates | Higher-beta extension |
| POET | ~$1.3B (as of 2026-09-23, repriced market-capitalization field) | Pre-volume Optical Interposer | Highest-beta, story-stock |
| LWLG | $1B+ | TFLN modulator IP, pre-volume | Story-stock peer |
Read: POET and LWLG are in the same speculative bucket — pre-revenue or early-revenue companies with real technology and binary outcomes around customer announcements. They move together on optical sentiment but reflect bets on adoption, not earnings.
What Happened After the May 29 Read
The May 29 read had POET at $12.29 and called it a high-oscillation speculative name digesting the optical-supercycle move in a volatile RSI-50 band. The June 16 checkpoint still fit that description: a sharp one-week burst on top of a soft month, with the three-month window still carrying the whole spring run. That checkpoint was the top.
| POET | 2026-05-29 read | 2026-06-16 checkpoint | 2026-09-18 close | Live, as of 2026-09-28 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $12.29 | $12.65 | $7.80 | $7.41 |
| 7-day | -11.18% | +26.45% | -1.89% | -11.89% |
| 30-day | +72.61% | -10.98% | -7.58% | -1.2% |
| 3-month | +77.86% | +92.54% | -35.80% | -24.77% |
"Digesting" was the wrong word for it. On both the September 18 close and the September 23 close the stock traded well below where it stood at the May read, with the three-month window negative (-35.80% and -26.83% respectively) — the move this section was written to explain has reversed. No single cause for the June-to-September fall is on file; the September 17 Q2 release came after most of it.
Risks
- Valuation. P/S ~760x on the Wolfpack report's figures means the entire stock price is forward-discounted commercialization. Any timing slip on volume production is binary downside.
- Wolfpack short report. Active short campaign citing minimal revenue, alleged "stock promote" history, business-model pivots. Whether or not the allegations are correct, the report itself creates pressure on the tape.
- PFIC status. POET is Canadian-domiciled; the Passive Foreign Investment Company tax treatment is unfavorable for US holders. They've announced plans to redomicile to the US. Until that closes, complex tax situation.
- Customer concentration risk. If POET's first big production order is from a single hyperscaler, qualifying delays compound. They haven't disclosed customer names publicly (typical pre-volume).
- Competing photonics approaches. Co-packaged optics is a battle between several incumbents (Intel, Broadcom, Cisco, NVIDIA's own efforts). POET could win, lose, or get acquired — but not all three.
Catalysts
What would move POET materially:
- Customer announcement — any named hyperscaler buying optical engines in volume. Single biggest catalyst.
- Volume production milestone — first ramp report ($10M+ quarter, not $1M).
- OFC 2027 demo (March 2027) — annual rhythm; "did they keep their lead?"
- Acquisition rumor — POET as target for Intel, Cisco, or MACOM if they need POET's IP for their own roadmap.
- Redomiciling completion — removes PFIC overhang, broadens US institutional ownership.
- Short-seller resolution — Wolfpack's allegations either get proven (POET tanks) or quietly recede (POET de-stigmatizes).
How POET Connects to Other Theses
Optical-supercycle (PRIMARY): confirmed direct hit. Same physics-down thesis as LWLG/AXTI/COHR/LITE/AAOI. POET is the smallest, highest-beta exposure to it.
AI-power-bottleneck: indirect — co-packaged optics reduces datacenter power per bit. POET's product roadmap includes claims of significant power-per-bit improvements at the rack level.
Cross-thesis convergence database: POET is NOT in any current trace. COHR (4 traces), LIN (3), APD (3) are the convergence picks. POET is a one-source-only signal so far.
What to Watch Next (as of 2026-09-23)
| Event | Timing | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Lumilens order conversion | Next quarterly report | Shipped revenue against the $50M order is the first volume evidence |
| Q3 2026 results | Not scheduled on the desk's calendar | A quarter above $5M lifts the veto; below $1M supports the short case |
| Redomicile / PFIC resolution | Company timeline not set | Removes a tax overhang for US holders |
| Securities class actions | Deadlines noted in the September pull | Legal overhang on the tax-status disclosures |
| Optical cohort | Daily | POET trades as the highest-beta end of the cohort |

| 2026-08-22 | POET $8.25, RSI 47.3, weak-down; 7D -13.69%; 30D +7.84%; 3M -43.45%; -60.36% from 52wk high. Lost the SMA50 reclaim (-8.4% below, from +2.2% above); SMA200 cushion has thinned to +3.0%. 1Y +62.72%, vs SMA200 +3.0%. News not pulled for this move; no new fundamentals re-researched. |
| 2026-08-28 | POET $7.50, RSI 41.4, down/collapse (downgraded from pullback); 7D -9.08%; 30D +17.74%; 3M -38.97%; -63.96% from 52wk high. The thin SMA200 cushion broke this cycle — price is now -7.0% below the 200-day, golden cross gone. 1Y +32.74% (still positive on the year). News not pulled for this move (cache last fetched 2026-06-21, failed); no new fundamentals re-researched. |
| 2026-09-04 | POET $7.92, RSI 48.4, down/collapse (regime unchanged); 7D +5.46% (turned positive); 30D -2.1% (turned negative, base-effect); 3M -33.22% (moderated); -61.94% from 52wk high (narrowed). The SMA200 break from last cycle reversed — golden cross has reclaimed, price now only -2.6% below the 200-day. 1Y +50.57% (up from +32.74%). Included an +8.05% single-day move on 09-04, consistent with a broad semiconductor/optical rally that day (sector data); no POET-specific news identified — cache last fetched 2026-06-21 and failed, over ten weeks stale. No new fundamentals re-researched. |
| 2026-09-11 | POET $7.95, RSI 49.1, strong-down/collapse (regime unchanged); 7D +0.38% (roughly flat); 30D -10.37% (deepened); 3M -36.55% (deepened); -61.8% from 52wk high (roughly flat). The golden cross reclaimed last cycle has been lost again — SMA50 ($8.03) is back below SMA200 ($8.21), death cross confirmed. 1Y +49.16% (roughly flat vs +50.57%). Included a +4.61% single-day move on 09-11; the optical cohort was mixed that day (COHR +4.16%, LWLG +1.36%, but LITE -0.93%), so no clean cohort-wide rally explains the pop — no POET-specific news identified, cache still last fetched 2026-06-21 and failed, now roughly twelve weeks stale; cause unknown. No new fundamentals re-researched. |
| 2026-09-18 | POET $7.80, RSI 49.2, strong-down/collapse (regime unchanged); 1D +3.86%; 7D -1.89% (turned negative); 30D -7.58% (improved); 3M -35.80% (roughly flat); -62.52% from 52wk high, a new file low. The 20-day was reclaimed (+1.2%) but the 200-day gap widened to -5.7% (from -3.1%) and the death cross stands. 1Y +48.85% with alpha1y +33.84 — positive only because the gain predates the June collapse. Stock-events checked: no POET row dated 2026-09-12 to 2026-09-18. News not pulled for this move — the last attempt failed on 2026-06-21 and the receipt is marked stale, now roughly thirteen weeks old; that is a false negative, not evidence of quiet. No newly filed period on disk; the newest filed period ends 2025-12-31. A business-quality veto line was added to the Action Matrix: roughly $2.3M of revenue since 2020 against a market value near $1.3B is a pre-revenue story stock, which this desk does not hold whatever the chart does. |
| 2026-09-23 | POET $7.80, RSI 48.7, strong-down/collapse; 1D -4.53%; 7D +5.41%; 30D +0.65%; 3M -26.83%; -62.52% from 52wk high; -6.2% below the 200-day. 1Y +30.00% with a one-year excess return of +14.23 points — pre-collapse residue. Q2 2026 folded from the 2026-09-17 issuer release (in the news pull fetched 2026-09-19): revenue $569,925 (+112% YoY), net loss $11.3M, cash $796.3M after a $400M financing, a $50M Lumilens order the company says could scale past $500M over five years; Investing.com calls the quarter a miss vs forecasts. Business-quality veto kept. D176/D177 re-fix: the optical-cohort table's past-dated column ('3M to 2026-09-18', live-bound) was relabeled as a live column dated by its own binding, and its false 'LITE is the only one still positive' sentence replaced by a dated September 23 read; the May 29 section's live-bound '2026-09-18' column now carries the fixed 09-18 log values ($7.80 / -1.89% / -7.58% / -35.80%) beside a separately labeled live column, and its interpreting sentence is dated. The Position Sizing and Recommendation sections (April plan routing into paper books) and the stale 30-day watch table were removed. Stock-events checked: no POET row dated 2026-09-19 to 2026-09-23. News not pulled for the September 21–23 sessions. |
