The Story Right Now (as of 2026-10-12)
Argenx ($ARGX) is cratering, and the break dates to October 8, when the stock fell 11.83% on 8.92 times average volume after the company ended its Phase 3 trial of VYVGART in Sjögren's disease. It has closed below its 200-day average on all three sessions from October 8 through October 12, at the end of a slide from early-September highs near $1,073 (derived from the stock's distance to its 52-week high). The long trend is under test: the stock is up 51.35% over two years and its 50-day average still sits above the 200-day, but the one-year gain has shrunk to 1.59%, 15.76 points behind the S&P 500. The June 29 dive's stop, set at about $830, gave way at the October 8 close, and its deeper line, about $815, at the October 12 close. The sales engine did not change that day. VYVGART product net sales rose 90% to $4.15 billion in 2025 (IFRS, US dollars, 20-F), and the failed trial was a bet on a new label. The call is to stand aside until a base reclaims the 200-day after the October 22 report: entry $852–$870, stop $805, first target $928.
Data as of 2026-10-12 close: ARGX $812.30, RSI 24.6, down trend, −13.4% vs SMA20, −15.0% vs SMA50, −4.6% vs SMA200, 1D −1.54%, 7D −11.02%, 30D −17.48%, 3M −7.30%, 1Y +1.59%, 2Y +51.35%, 1Y vs S&P 500 −15.76 points, −24.28% from the 52-week high, relative volume 0.59× (price summaries, Polygon close).
What happened on October 8. Argenx furnished two press releases on a 6-K that day; the exhibit text is not on disk. Zacks (October 9) and Endpoints News report that argenx discontinued UNITY, its Phase 3 trial of VYVGART HYTRULO, the subcutaneous form of efgartigimod, in Sjögren's disease. The 20-F described UNITY as a registrational, 480-patient trial with topline results expected in the second half of 2027, so it stopped about a year early. A stockanalysis.com summary of a Morgan Stanley note gives the reason as a futility finding; the reason is not in the filing. The same day, argenx reported that FB102, an anti-CD122 antibody, met the primary endpoint of a Phase 2 celiac study (p = 0.0176) and will advance to Phase 3 (company release). FB102 came with Forte Biosciences, bought for about $2.2 billion in cash in a deal that closed August 27. The win came from a newly bought asset; the loss came from the core drug's expansion plan.
Why the market sold the core drug. The 20-F says Sjögren's has no FDA-approved treatment, which made UNITY one of the larger new labels on argenx's schedule. The company's own risk factors warn that a negative result in one indication "could negatively impact the perception of the efficacy and safety of such product or product candidate in a different indication." The selling was company-specific: the 37 biotech names covered alongside it, drawn from the iShares Biotechnology ETF, moved a median −0.7% that day with 12 rising (October 8 market brief). Morgan Stanley cut its target to $1,140 from $1,250 and kept an Overweight rating (stockanalysis.com summary).
The setup. At $812.30 the stock sits 4.6% under a 200-day of $851.80 at RSI 24.6, oversold. Just above is $824.50, the past year's most-traded price. Below are a support shelf at $790.26, the 30-day intraday low of $787.73 and $781.70, the bottom of the past year's heaviest-traded zone. The bottom → pop → flag → breakout sequence has not started. The October 22 report, scheduled before the open by the provider calendar, is the next test.
Quick Snapshot (as of 2026-10-12)
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| The call | 🟡 Stand aside until a base reclaims the 200-day. Entry $852–$870 · stop $805 · first target $928 · low conviction |
| What is argenx? | A Dutch biotech (Amsterdam head office, primary listing on Euronext Brussels, one ordinary share per Nasdaq ADS) that sells VYVGART, the first FcRn blocker: an antibody fragment that lowers the IgG antibodies behind several autoimmune diseases. Approved in generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) and CIDP worldwide and in ITP in Japan, as an infusion, a subcutaneous injection and a prefilled syringe (20-F). |
| Doing well or cratering? | Cratering since October 8. -4.6% vs the 200-day, 1.59% over one year, -15.76 points vs the S&P 500 over one year, 51.35% over two years, -24.28% from the 52-week high. |
| Why look now? | October 8 brought the first outright Phase 3 failure in argenx's 2026–27 readout schedule and a break of the 200-day; both levels the June dive set ($830 and $815) have given way. The stock left the Momentum Board's list of multi-year outperformers in pullback after October 7. |
| What is the proof? | 2025 product net sales $4.15B, +90%; operating profit $1.05B against a $21.7M loss in 2024; cash $3.49B plus $0.9B of current financial assets at December 31, 2025 (20-F, IFRS, US dollars). |
| What is the objection? | The growth plan leans on new labels, and UNITY was one. The US supplied 85.1% of 2025 product net sales (derived) and four US customers about 78% (20-F). The filed risks name US drug-price negotiation and same-class competitors. The first-half 2026 report is not in the filings on disk. |
| Stock setup | Under the 200-day ($851.8) at RSI 24.6, above a $790.26 shelf; the 50-day ($955.51) still sits above the 200-day. No base yet. |
Action Matrix (as of 2026-10-12)
| Signal | Condition | Level | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| 🟡 Wait | Tonight: under the 200-day, oversold, no base, before the October 22 report | Close $812.3 on 2026-10-12 | Graded drawdown buys have lagged; no pop or flag has formed |
| 🟢 Buy | A settled close back above the 200-day that holds a retest, after the October 22 report | $852–$870 (200-day $851.8 tonight) | A reclaim restores the long trend; the stop sits 5.5%–7.5% under the zone |
| 🟡 Wait | A bounce that stalls under the 200-day, or a report-day gap that runs past $870 | — | No chase; buy the retest |
| 🔴 Out | A settled close below $805 | $805, under every close since the trial news (lowest $812.30 on October 12) and the $807.38 shelf marked on October 8–9 | The reclaim has failed; also the stop for any position opened on the buy signal. The June 29 call set its stop at about $830, which gave way at the October 8 close of $818.63; written as "below the 50-day," it had stopped meaning $830 long before, with the 50-day at $955.51 by October 12 |
| 🟠 Target | First objective after a confirmed buy | $928, the October 7 close at the top of the trial-news gap; then about $1,073, the 52-week high (derived) | Gap fill first; trim or trail there |
| 🔴 Thesis breaks | The October 22 report shows VYVGART growth stalling or a cut outlook; a second registrational miss among the fourth-quarter readouts (EMPASSION in MMN, ADVANCE-NEXT in ITP); a label or safety action on efgartigimod | — | Each moves the damage from one expansion bet into the franchise |
The call: 🟡 Stand aside until a base reclaims the 200-day, then buy the retest at $852–$870. Low conviction. The business record is strong and filed. The price broke on news about the core drug, the one-year return is flat and 15.76 points behind the S&P 500, and the next two catalysts, the October 22 report and the fourth-quarter readouts, can move the stock in either direction. Buying under the 200-day now is a drawdown buy: in graded calls published so far, bottom-fishing buys finished ahead of the S&P 500 once in five, while thesis-driven buys did in five of six (small samples). The June dive's business reasons, a profitable and fast-growing FcRn franchise, still hold in the filings; its chart reason, a clean uptrend with room to run, is gone. The trade is thin even after a reclaim: from the zone, the first target pays 6.7%–8.9% against 5.5%–7.5% of risk. The case for taking it rests on the second objective near the old high, which needs the report to restore confidence in growth.
What would change it. A report on October 22 that shows VYVGART growth holding and says the Sjögren's stop changes no other efgartigimod program upgrades the call on a reclaim. Positive EMPASSION or ADVANCE-NEXT results in the fourth quarter would rebuild the label-expansion case. A settled close below $805 before any reclaim deepens the break, and a 50-day average falling through the 200-day would mark the long trend broken.
Extended analysis
Why This Moment Is Different
The 20-F filed on March 19 laid out argenx's year as a run of registrational readouts. October 8 was the first outright failure among them.
| Milestone and 20-F timing | Drug | Indication | What the record on disk shows |
|---|---|---|---|
| ADAPT OCULUS, Q1 2026 | efgartigimod | Ocular myasthenia gravis | New data presented at the AANEM and MGFA meetings on September 29, which the company's release summary describes as deepening improvements; the topline release is not on disk |
| Seronegative gMG supplemental BLA, PDUFA May 10, 2026 | VYVGART | gMG without detectable AChR antibodies | The half-year release, as summarized in the news feed, cites a launch in seronegative gMG; the approval document is not on disk |
| ALKIVIA, Q3 2026 | efgartigimod | Myositis (IMNM, ASyS, DM) | Positive topline on August 17; Endpoints News reported a miss in a key patient subgroup |
| EMPASSION, Q4 2026 | empasiprubart | Multifocal motor neuropathy (MMN) | Scheduled |
| ADVANCE-NEXT, Q4 2026 | efgartigimod | Primary ITP | Scheduled |
| UNITY, second half of 2027 | efgartigimod SC | Sjögren's disease | Discontinued October 8, 2026 (Zacks, Endpoints News, Mitrade) |
| EMVIGORATE, second half of 2027 | empasiprubart | CIDP | Scheduled |
The road into October 8. The June 29 dive called a clean uptrend at $912.46, the June 26 close. ALKIVIA's August 17 result lifted the stock 16.0% to $987.84 (August 17 market brief), and it closed at $1,055.37 on September 2, 25.1% above its 200-day (September 2 brief). Through September it slipped back in what the daily briefs called an orderly pullback in an intact trend: $958.91 on September 30, still 12.7% above the 200-day and up 30.01% on the year. On October 5 it flipped from uptrend to pullback, and on October 7 it closed at $928.44, 8.9% above the 200-day, the cleanest pullback on its watchlist that night (October 7 brief). The September drift has no cause on file: news pulled October 12 holds analyst items such as UBS's September upgrade and nothing that explains it, stock-event files hold only the July and October earnings dates, and the article captures from August through October hold only the two Endpoints pieces.
What the company said, and what the record says. The 6-K furnished October 8 lists two press releases as exhibits 99.1 and 99.2; neither exhibit is on disk. The celiac release reaches the files through summaries of the company's site and GlobeNewswire copies: FB102 met its primary endpoint with p = 0.0176, the company presents the result as showing that blocking CD122 can prevent gluten-induced intestinal damage, and it plans Phase 3. The UNITY discontinuation is on disk only through coverage: Zacks's summary says argenx discontinued the Phase 3 UNITY study of VYVGART HYTRULO in Sjögren's disease, Endpoints News wrote that the company "is shuttering a Phase 3 trial," and Mitrade, an aggregator, tied a 13.36% fall to the discontinuation. Mitrade's figure and the 14.1% fall to $797.99 that Weiss Ratings reported are larger than the 11.83% settled-close loss to $818.63; they appear to be intraday readings. The futility reason comes from a summary of a Morgan Stanley note and stays attributed until the company's own text is read.
Earlier signals. On June 23 argenx hosted a webinar to present efgartigimod data it described as showing sustained benefit in myositis and in Sjögren's disease (GlobeNewswire notice). Myositis then read out positive in August; Sjögren's did not reach its Phase 3 readout. A competitor's failure earlier in the year cut the other way: Benzinga reported on June 11 that Sanofi stopped its Phase 3 CIDP study of riliprubart for missing efficacy objectives, which an analyst said could reinforce VYVGART's position in CIDP.
The franchise news around it was positive. On October 7 Halozyme expanded its ENHANZE licence with argenx from six exclusive targets to eight and raised its own 2026 revenue guidance on royalties that include VYVGART HYTRULO (Zacks). On September 29 argenx presented real-world data from more than 1,100 US myasthenia patients showing larger gains when treatment started within a year of diagnosis (company release). None of that offset the trial news on October 8.
The two moves since. October 9 added 0.78% to $825.03 (October 9 brief). October 12 lost 1.54% to $812.30 on 0.59 times average volume. News pulled October 12 (retrieved 03:42 UTC October 13, no errors) holds nothing dated to either session beyond the analyst actions above; the October 22 earnings date is the only stock-event file in the window; the captures for October 9–12 carry nothing on argenx. Cause of Monday's slip: not on file.
How the Business Makes Money
One drug, three formats. Argenx sells VYVGART (efgartigimod alfa), an antibody fragment engineered to bind the neonatal Fc receptor (FcRn) and lower circulating IgG without blocking antibody production (20-F). The infusion is VYVGART; the subcutaneous form, made with Halozyme's ENHANZE technology under an exclusive licence signed in February 2019, is VYVGART HYTRULO in the US and China, VYVDURA in Japan and VYVGART in the EU and UK. A prefilled syringe for self-injection launched in the US in April 2025. Approved uses are gMG and CIDP worldwide and ITP in Japan. The 20-F says commercial revenue comes from VYVGART alone.
Where the money comes from. Product net sales by country, IFRS, thousands of US dollars (20-F, Note 16):
| Country | 2023 | 2024 | 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | 1,046,592 | 1,895,919 | 3,533,939 |
| Japan | 56,432 | 89,389 | 206,835 |
| China | 14,907 | 39,177 | 67,920 |
| Rest of world | 72,852 | 161,398 | 342,622 |
| Total | 1,190,783 | 2,185,883 | 4,151,316 |
The US share was 85.1% in 2025, 86.7% in 2024 and 87.9% in 2023 (derived from the table). Four US customers took about 78% of 2025 product net sales, against five at 87% in 2024 (20-F); the revenue note describes sales through specialty distributors and contracted parties. Greater China rights are out-licensed to Zai Lab, which pays sales-based milestones and royalties (20-F).
Costs and supply. 2025 research and development spending was $1.36 billion and selling, general and administrative spending $1.37 billion, up 39% and 30% (20-F). Lonza manufactures at Slough, Portsmouth, Singapore and Visp, and Fujifilm in Denmark handles cell-bank and other development work (20-F). The company had 1,863 full-time employees at December 31, 2025.
What the company says it is doing. The 20-F names three 2026 priorities: reach more patients with VYVGART "driving broader adoption across current patient populations and unlocking new opportunities with potential label expansions"; shape "the long-term future of FcRn medicines," including next-generation FcRn molecules ARGX-213 and ARGX-124; and accelerate empasiprubart, a C2 complement inhibitor in two Phase 3 trials, plus first-in-class molecules such as adimanebart, a MuSK agonist in a Phase 3 trial in congenital myasthenic syndrome. Its Vision 2030 sets "five new molecules in Phase 3, ten labeled indications, and 50,000 patients on treatment by 2030." The Forte purchase added FB102 for celiac disease and vitiligo. The 20-F also disclosed a planned leadership change, subject to shareholder approval: chief operating officer Karen Massey to become chief executive and Tim Van Hauwermeiren to become non-executive chair. Completion is not confirmed in the files on disk.
Filed risks that matter now.
- Cross-indication read-through: a negative result in one indication "could negatively impact the perception of the efficacy and safety" of the product in another (20-F). UNITY tests this.
- Competition: the 20-F says argenx faces products "in the same class as VYVGART" in gMG and CIDP, and names AstraZeneca, AbbVie, Amgen, Biogen, GSK, Roche, Johnson & Johnson and Novartis among autoimmune competitors.
- US pricing: the Inflation Reduction Act's Medicare negotiation "may materially reduce the prices we are able to charge for our products" (20-F).
- Biosimilars, contract manufacturing and customer concentration carry their own risk factors.
What the Street and the Public Conversation Say
The qualitative case here rests on filings and company releases; no analyst or social-media handle carries it.
Analysts. Ratings stayed positive through the drop. Morgan Stanley trimmed its target to $1,140 from $1,250 and kept Overweight after UNITY (stockanalysis.com summary, October 9). RBC started at Buy on October 9 (Markets Insider). Before the drop, UBS upgraded to Buy with a $1,400 target (stockanalysis.com summary, September 8), Deutsche Bank cut to Hold while lifting its target (MarketScreener, late August), and The Motley Fool counted ten analysts at $1,200 or more on October 5 while flagging ongoing trials and declining sales in China as risks. The 20-F shows China product net sales up in 2025; the Fool's China claim covers a later period and is not verified here. Weiss Ratings rates the stock C (Hold).
Earnings record. The provider's consensus record shows six straight quarterly EPS beats through the July 23 report and a miss in February 2025 (data-provider EPS basis, not reconciled to the filings). Third-party write-ups of the second quarter disagree with each other: MarketBeat lists revenue of $1.54 billion against a $1.45 billion forecast, TipRanks prints $2.82 billion, and BioSpace's summary of the half-year release cites cash above $5 billion. The half-year 2026 report is not in the EDGAR facts on disk, so none of those figures is reconciled here. A provider's latest-quarter read shows revenue up 59.8% year over year (quarter basis, unfiled on disk).
Positioning. Short interest was 1,352,184 shares at the September 30 settlement, 4.94 days of average volume and about 2.2% of the 62.56 million shares Massive lists (derived), up from 1,202,082 shares at the August 14 settlement, before the trial news (Massive).
Insiders. Argenx is a foreign private issuer and files no Form 4s; the US insider feed shows no data. Directors' dealings would appear as EU managers'-transaction notices, and no insider-transaction feed covers this name, so insider activity was not checked.
Social. The social layer returned nothing usable. An October 13 search found eight Hacker News items, none relevant, no Reddit results, and timeouts on its YouTube and X legs. An October 8 search returned three YouTube explainer videos, one titled "$247 DCF Model vs $1,600 Bull Case," which carry no information about holders. No X posts on argenx sit in the captured follows. There is no positioning read beyond short interest.
The Conviction Chain
| Link | Evidence | Confirms | Breaks |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. VYVGART demand keeps compounding | 2025 product net sales +90% (20-F); second-half 2025 sales up 84.2% on second-half 2024 (derived from filed half-year and annual figures) | October 22 report with growth near the 2025 pace | A stall in US sales or a cut outlook |
| 2. New labels widen the market | CIDP approved worldwide; seronegative gMG launch cited in the half-year release; ALKIVIA positive in August | Positive EMPASSION and ADVANCE-NEXT readouts in the fourth quarter | UNITY has already failed; a second registrational miss |
| 3. The franchise holds its price and share | Three formats including self-injection; ENHANZE licence widened October 7 | Stable US net price through the IRA cycle; no share loss to same-class products | Medicare negotiation selection; share loss to competitors |
| 4. Profit funds the pipeline | Operating profit $1.05B in 2025; cash $3.49B plus $0.9B current financial assets at year-end, before the $2.2B Forte purchase (20-F, company releases) | Operating margin holding as spending rises | Spending growth outrunning sales growth |
| 5. The stock re-forms a trend | Currently failing: under the 200-day, flat one-year return | A base and a settled close back above the 200-day | A settled close below $805; the 50-day falling through the 200-day |
Weakest link: 2. The sales record in link 1 is filed and strong. The market's question after October 8 is how much of argenx's growth plan rests on new indications, and the one Phase 3 result that settled since August was a failure. Two more registrational readouts are scheduled for the fourth quarter. Link 5, the price, is the one that currently fails, and the call waits on it.

The first-half 2026 report: held, not in the filings on disk. The figures quoted by third parties are listed under What the Street Says and are not reconciled.
What the series says. Sales grew 79.7% to 98.5% year over year in each of the four halves with a year-earlier comparison, and margins have widened each half: the business turned an operating profit in the second half of 2024 and earned a 28.9% operating margin in the second half of 2025 (derived). 2024's $833.0 million profit is mostly a tax item: it includes a $747.9 million income tax benefit against an operating loss of $21.7 million (20-F). 2025's profit carries a $13.4 million tax benefit and $163.1 million of financial income, so operating profit is the cleaner measure. The 20-F says "we expect our expenses to continue to increase" as registrational and proof-of-concept trials run.
Cash quality. Operating cash flow of $685.2 million in 2025 trailed operating profit of $1.05 billion (20-F). Trade receivables rose to $1.65 billion at December 31, 2025 from $904.5 million a year earlier, and inventories to $473.5 million from $407.2 million (SEC XBRL). Growth is absorbing working capital; the next filing shows whether receivables keep outrunning sales.
Balance sheet. Cash and equivalents were $3.49 billion at December 31, 2025, with $0.9 billion of current financial assets, against $1.50 billion and $1.9 billion a year earlier (20-F). The Forte purchase, about $2.2 billion in cash, closed August 27, 2026, after that date. The 20-F reports accumulated losses of $0.3 billion at year-end.
Correction to the June dive. The June 29 dive cited cash of €366M at June 30, 2025 and called the EDGAR record partial. That figure is a euro-tagged sub-item; the consolidated cash and equivalents figure for the same date is $2.09 billion (SEC XBRL, 6-K). Argenx reports in US dollars. The June dive's +64% revenue growth came from a leading-indicator read; the filed 2025 product net sales growth is 90% (20-F).

At the October 12 close argenx had the weakest week of these names and sat under its 200-day with BioMarin and Alnylam; Regeneron, Vertex, Amgen, Gilead, Biogen and Incyte held above theirs. Halozyme, whose royalties include VYVGART HYTRULO, was up on the week and 39.5% above its 200-day. The damage is argenx's own; it has not spread to the large-cap group or to its royalty partner.
Levels. The 200-day is $851.80, the 20-day $937.74 and the 50-day $955.51; the 50-day still sits above the 200-day. Overhead, the October 7 close of $928.44 marks the top of the trial-news gap and $935.78 the top of the past year's heaviest-traded zone. Support is the $790.26 shelf, the $787.73 low of the past 30 days and the $781.70 bottom of the heaviest-traded zone. The 30-day intraday range runs from $787.73 to $1,008.32. The stock sat on the Momentum Board's list of multi-year outperformers in pullback through October 7 and is off it since October 8. It is not on the Turnaround Watch on October 8, 9 or 12.
Dated items.

Risks and Kill Tests
Read-through to the core drug. The 20-F's own warning is the main risk: investors may extend one indication's failure to the drug's other uses. The kill test is any label, safety or enrollment action on efgartigimod in gMG or CIDP.
Concentration. One product, 85.1% of sales in one country, about 78% through four customers (20-F; US share derived). A US pricing or reimbursement change lands on nearly the whole business.
Pipeline schedule. Two registrational readouts are due in the fourth quarter. A second miss would turn the Sjögren's result from a single setback into a pattern.
Spending and acquisitions. Research spending rose 39% in 2025 and the company paid about $2.2 billion for Forte in August. Spending that outruns sales growth would end the margin expansion the series shows.
Unfiled numbers. The first-half 2026 figures in circulation disagree with each other and are not on disk in filed form; the October 22 report is the next filed update.
Kill tests, in order: a settled close below $805 before any reclaim; the 50-day falling through the 200-day; VYVGART growth stalling or a cut outlook on October 22; a second registrational failure in the fourth quarter.

- The October 8 market brief carried the move among its movers: "a long trend under test, with no entry before a reclaim" of the 200-day. The call here keeps that line.
- Momentum Board: on the multi-year outperformers in pullback list through October 7; off it on October 8, 9 and 12. Not on the Turnaround Watch on those dates.
- Campaigns: no campaign lists argenx. The biotech funding campaign tracks tools and contract-research orders and excludes individual drug outcomes, so this event does not bear on it.
- Cohort: the trial news did not spread to the large-cap biotech group or to Halozyme (table above).

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026-06-29 | $912.46 | 62 | +4.7% | +9.13% | First dive, on the June 26 close: profitable FcRn leader in a golden-cross uptrend, the least-extended IBB leader. Buy strength or a pullback toward the 20-day (about $872); stop under the 50-day (about $830), 200-day (about $815) the deeper line. Medium conviction. |
| 2026-10-12 | $812.30 | 24.6 | −13.4% | −17.48% | UNITY (Sjögren's) discontinued October 8; an 11.83% fall on 8.92× volume closed the stock under the 200-day. The June stop of about $830 gave way at the October 8 close of $818.63 and its $815 deeper line on October 12. Filed 2025 sales growth of 90% confirmed from the 20-F; the June cash and growth lines corrected. Call: stand aside; entry $852–$870 on a reclaimed 200-day, stop $805, first target $928, low conviction. |
