Data as-of 2026-08-07 close — every name in this cut carries a fresh bar this scan.

The oversold band nearly emptied out: nine names sat inside the oversold band last scan, now just two do — ALNY (34.2) and LEGN (39.6) — and both are bounce-off-a-crash-low reads rather than confirmed turns; ALNY's regime still reads "collapse" with no support shelf identified even after a +10.7-point RSI recovery. The other side of the board got more crowded at the same time: REGN pushed further into overbought (78.1 → 80, the cut's new high print), and AMGN (64.9 → 72.3) and TMO (68.8 → 71.6) both crossed above the line — three overbought names this scan, up from one. ILMN is the session's outlier, moving the opposite direction of almost everything else: RSI 67.6 → 47.9, -8.36% over the week — the sharpest single-name reversal in the cut.

Quick Snapshot

Signal Reading
Overall 🟡 Broad synchronized bounce — the oversold band shrank from 9 names to 2, but the overbought band grew from 1 name to 3, and the names still tagged "collapse" haven't earned a confirmed floor
Leaders REGN (RSI 80↑, new high print in the cut, +18.3% 30D); AMGN (72.3, crossed above 70 this scan); TMO (71.6, crossed above 70 this scan)
Laggards ILMN (47.9, the one name that reversed down, -8.36% this week); ALNY (34.2, still "collapse" regime despite the bounce); DNA (43.8, drifted lower, "collapse" regime)
Key insight Nearly the whole complex bounced together this scan — but the recovery in ALNY, LEGN, and the rest of the "collapse"/"downtrend" tier is a bounce off a crashed low, not a confirmed reversal; none of those names cleared their regime downgrade

What's Going On

The complex-wide reset from two scans ago unwound just as fast as it arrived. Last scan, nine names sat in the 25-40 RSI band; this scan only two do. ALNY climbed from 23.5 to 34.2 (change7d +6.66%, per biotech-scan.json) but its 30-day return actually worsened slightly, from -31.9% to -32.24% — a sign the RSI gain is a bounce off a deeper low rather than a real turn. LEGN moved from 24.1 to 39.6, also without clearing its "collapse" regime tag. IONS (26.3 → 42.3) and RARE (33.8 → 41.8) both cleared the oversold band entirely this scan.

The move wasn't confined to the beaten-down names. SRPT (31.4 → 50.4, +19.0 points) and CRSP (41.7 → 57.7, +16.0 points) posted two of the largest single-scan RSI gains in the cut, alongside NTLA (32.9 → 47.4, +14.5) and EDIT (38.4 → 51.0, +12.6). MRNA jumped from 40.9 to 50.1 on a 9.86% single-day move (change1d).

At the other end of the range, REGN extended further into overbought territory — RSI 78.1 to 80, the cut's new high print, on +18.33% over 30 days (change30d). AMGN and TMO both crossed above RSI 70 for the first time this scan cycle: AMGN 64.9 → 72.3 (+11.67% 30D), TMO 68.8 → 71.6 (+16.44% 30D).

ILMN broke the pattern in the other direction. RSI fell from 67.6 to 47.9, -8.36% over the week and -2.97% in a single day — the sharpest single-name pullback in the cut, even as its regime classifier still reads "uptrend" and thesis flag "intact-but-priced."

What Changed Since Prior Scan (2026-07-31)

  • The oversold band shrank from 9 names to 2. ALNY (34.2) and LEGN (39.6) are the only names left in that band, down from ALNY, LEGN, IONS, SRPT, NTLA, RARE, BEAM, EDIT, and ISRG last scan.
  • The overbought band grew from 1 name to 3. REGN (80), AMGN (72.3), and TMO (71.6) all sit above RSI 70 — last scan only REGN did.
  • REGN extended to the cut's new high print. RSI 78.1 → 80, +18.3% over 30 days.
  • ILMN reversed the hardest in the opposite direction. RSI 67.6 → 47.9, -8.36% over the week — the only large single-scan drop this session.
  • ALNY's bounce did not improve its 30-day return. RSI 23.5 → 34.2, but change30d worsened from -31.9% to -32.24% — a bounce off a lower low, not a confirmed reversal; regime still "collapse," no support shelf identified.
  • SRPT and CRSP posted the largest RSI gains in the cut. SRPT: 31.4 → 50.4 (+19.0). CRSP: 41.7 → 57.7 (+16.0).
  • MRNA posted a single-day pop. RSI 40.9 → 50.1 on a +9.86% single-day move (change1d).
  • No stale bars this scan — every name carries a 2026-08-07 close, unlike last scan's one-session-stale A row.
  • Universe unchanged. Same 39 tickers as the July 31 cut — no entrants or dropouts.

How To Read The Board

RSI measures how stretched a stock is over the past 14 sessions — under 30 signals oversold, over 70 signals overbought/extended. vs SMA20 is the price gap to the 20-day average; a large negative number means a fast recent decline. vs VWAP is the premium (or discount) versus the average price paid by everyone still holding — a big positive number means most of a name's move is unrealized gain that can get sold into weakness. Trend pairs direction/strength with a cross signal: GC (golden cross, the short-term average above the long-term average) is structurally healthier than DC (death cross). A stock whose RSI bounces out of the oversold band while its regime classifier still reads "collapse" — like ALNY and LEGN here — is not a confirmed reversal; it means the price found some buyers after a crash, not that the underlying structure has turned.

What To Watch Next

  • The oversold band shrank from 9 names to 2 in a single scan — does the group's bounce hold, or does it roll back over now that the squeeze has passed?
  • ILMN reversed the other way this scan (RSI 67.6 → 47.9) while the rest of the complex bounced — is this the start of a real pullback or a one-off?
  • REGN, AMGN, and TMO are now all above RSI 70 — does the group extend further, or does it give this back the way the large-cap complex did two scans ago?
  • ALNY and LEGN both bounced off crash lows but remain in "collapse" regime with no confirmed floor — does either name stabilize, or does the compounding decline resume?
