EV / Clean Energy Scan — August 28, 2026 Close
EV / Clean Energy Scan — August 28, 2026 Close
The board gave back last week's split-recovery this scan — the EV-maker complex that bounced hard last time (TSLA, LI, NIO, XPEV, RIVN, BYDDY) cooled or reversed lower together, while the names crushed two scans ago (TE, NXT, SEDG, BE) all stabilized or improved as that earlier crash rolled out of both the weekly and monthly windows. NIO and FSLR both dropped back into oversold, and SQM cooled fully out of overbought after last week's extension. LCID remains the board's most damaged structure on every horizon and deepened further this week.
Data as-of 2026-08-28 close. All numbers from precomputed summaries/ev-clean-energy.json. Prior scan: 2026-08-22-ev-clean-energy (2026-08-22, data as-of 2026-08-21 close) — the summary's own 7-day window runs 2026-08-21 to 2026-08-28, so the comparisons below line up exactly with that prior scan.
Quick Snapshot
| Signal | Reading |
|---|---|
| Overall | 🟡 A rotation reversal — the EV-maker bounce from last scan gave back ground while the previously crushed clean-energy/industrial names (TE, NXT, SEDG, BE) all stabilized as the earlier crash rolled out of the trailing windows. |
| Key insight | LCID remains the board's weakest structure by a wide margin — down 75.8% over the trailing year and 42.7% below its 200-day — and it deepened further this week even as several other beaten-down names improved. |
What's Going On
The EV-maker complex that recovered sharply last scan cooled together this week. TSLA's RSI eased from 58.0 to 50.9 as the week flipped from +6.02% to -3.89%; the stock remains 13% below its 200-day average despite a roughly flat trailing year (+0.8%, alpha1y -19.07) — still a trend under test at that level, not resolved by last week's bounce. LI, NIO, XPEV, RIVN, and BYDDY all moved the same direction: LI's RSI fell from 54.7 to 43.7 (week +6.35%→-6.28%), NIO dropped back into oversold (RSI 46.7→39.1, week +2.66%→-5.62%), XPEV weakened similarly (RSI 46.8→42.5, week +4.36%→-5.41%), and RIVN gave back essentially all of last week's +10.34% gain (RSI 56.8→48.9, week -5.25%). All five remain below their 200-day averages with negative trailing-year returns (LI -47.42%, NIO -32.87%, XPEV -47.38%, BYDDY -21.25%) — last week's bounce was a recovery inside still-damaged longer trends, and this week's reversal confirms those trends haven't resolved.
On the other side of the board, the names that cratered two scans ago all stabilized or improved as that crash week rolled out of both the 7-day and 30-day windows. TE bounced hard: RSI climbed from 38.0 to 45.2, price from $4.42 to $4.79, and the week added 8.35% after two straight scans of deterioration; the 30-day change swung from -26.7% to +28.76% purely as the earlier crash exited the window. TE is still 26.2% below its 200-day despite an enormous +192.07% trailing year — the trend remains genuinely under test, just less acutely than it looked two scans ago. NXT showed the same pattern: RSI improved from 34.3 to 36.8, the week's decline slowed to -0.89% from -14.99%, and the 30-day change improved to -7.8% from -17.89% — still 21.4% below its 200-day with a positive trailing year, the same under-test framing as before. BE and SEDG both improved on a similar basis (BE's 30-day swinging from -7.68% to +28.71%; SEDG's from -35.61% to -19.54%), though SEDG remains the board's weakest structure by 25.5% below its 200-day.
LCID is the exception to the broader stabilization — it kept deteriorating on every window: RSI fell from 38.2 to 35.9, the week dropped -9.26%, and the 30-day change worsened to -37.06% from -18.73%. LCID is now down 75.8% over the trailing year and 42.7% below its 200-day, easily the board's most damaged structure. FSLR dropped newly into oversold (RSI 42.9→38.7) after a quiet week, sitting 11.9% below its 200-day on a roughly flat trailing year. ALB and SQM both cooled from last week's extension — SQM fell fully out of overbought (RSI 72.8→58.4, week +10.18%→-4.03%) while ALB eased from 67.8 to 57.2 — both remain up more than 60% over the trailing year, a healthy pullback rather than a reversal.

How To Read The Board
Golden-cross names (RIVN, BE, ENPH, SEDG, FSLR, LIT, DRIV, TAN, ICLN, NXT, ENS, TE) mean the 50-day average sits above the 200-day — but as before, the cross label is misleading on its own: NXT, TE, and SEDG all carry golden crosses yet sit well below their 200-day averages. Death-cross names (TSLA, BYDDY, LI, NIO, XPEV, LCID, PLUG, ALB, SQM, KARS, TAN, ICLN) include several names that are genuinely weak on the long horizon (LI, NIO, XPEV, LCID — all deeply below their 200-day with negative trailing-year returns) alongside names that are fine despite the death-cross label (SQM +72.13% 1-year and 4.1% above its 200-day; ALB +61.75% 1-year though still 12% below its 200-day). The most reliable split remains 200-day distance plus trailing-year return, not the cross label: LIT, SQM, DRIV, ENS, and BE sit above or near their 200-day with strongly positive multi-year records (deep-pullback framing); TSLA, RIVN, PLUG, FSLR, KARS, TAN, ICLN, NXT, and TE sit below theirs even with strong multi-year records in several cases, meaning the trend is under real test; LI, NIO, XPEV, BYDDY, LCID, and SEDG are weak on both windows at once — the genuinely damaged group.

Action Matrix
| Action | Stocks | Why |
|---|---|---|

| ⚠️ AVOID | SEDG | Still the board's most structurally damaged name on the 30-day window despite a slight RSI uptick |
What To Watch Next
