Two Watches Retired on A Macro Day
Two Watches Retired on A Macro Day
Market Signal
Six alarms tripped on Thursday's close. Two retired live watches — and not one of the six names carries a company event dated to the day. The price of money changed. CNBC had the ten-year Treasury yield at its highest since 2023 as oil ran toward $100 on the Hormuz escalation; the oil fund closed +5.61% at an RSI of 78, the long-bond fund fell 1.16% on 2.14 times average volume, and volatility bid 8.4% off a compressed base.
Fired Level named Thursday's close Verdict | --- --- --- --- | Danaher — invalidation $202.97, the 200-day $200.53, RSI 41.8 Watch retired | Vertiv — invalidation $257.40, the 200-day $248.13, −5.61% on 2.29× volume Watch retired | Volatility gauge compressed → neutral VIX 17.84, +8.4% No signal either way | Breadth gauge fragile → deteriorating SPY −0.60%, QQQ −1.06% Breadth, not trend | Meta — three conditions of five entry $665 $644.38 Watch, not a call | Lockheed, Vicor — level touches $530 zone top; $178 stop $530.12; $178.05 Advisory; levels unchanged |
The ladder loses its top rung. Danaher was the quality-tools rung of the August 24 biotech expression ladder, waiting on a hold at the $210.39 shelf. It went the other way instead — $200.53, under the $202.97 long average the call named, under the 50-day at $202.25, RSI 41.8 and −4.98% on the week. The rung retires without ever converting. Agios still stands at $33.64, clear of its $30.93 line. Viking's rung was already retired on August 28, the first time it closed under the $32.63 shelf; at $32.13 it has not reclaimed it. The September 6 campaign map's biotech bench asks Thermo Fisher, Danaher and Medpace for three-month gains with RSI above 60. The gains are there — 26.81%, 10.92%, 22.75% — and the RSIs are not: 51.5, 41.8, 46.4.
Vertiv was never a buy. That same map listed it evidence-pending, with price alone unable to authorize a purchase, and set $257.40 as the line that voids the watch. It closed $248.13 — 3.6% under that line, 4.2% under today's long average — on 2.29 times average volume, the heaviest print in its block, one day before the map's own scheduled review. The map's rule is narrow: invalidation retires the entry watch and sends the business back for separate review. That review cannot start from the file. Vertiv's news pull had been failing since April 29; a fresh pull on Thursday night carries a September 2 acquisition announcement and nothing dated to the day, so the move stands unexplained.
The rest is advisory. Lockheed closed +1.08% on a red tape, twelve cents above the top of its $490–$530 zone, six days after filling it; no receipt on disk explains the move. Vicor sits five cents over its $178 stop on 0.56 times volume. Both levels stand unchanged. Meta lit research, tape and volatility but not price — $20.62 short of the $665 its July call named — one of fifteen names at three conditions, none at four. Both indexes remain above their long averages: this is breadth, not a broken trend.
Next tests are the inflation print and the following week's policy decision. The September 6 map's own financing trigger is a ten-year at 5.00% or high-yield spreads at 3.50 points on two consecutive readings, first checked September 11.
