EV & Clean Energy Scan — October 9, 2026 Close

raw scan snapshot — prices as of scan date, not live 93 rows · screens, not recommendations prior scanresearch/scans/2026-10-02-ev-clean-energy.md

Chinese EV makers bounced — Li Auto +7.95%, XPeng +7.03%, NIO +6.23%, lifting XPeng and NIO out of last week's washout — while T1 Energy (-13.52%), Plug Power (-11.58%), EnerSys (-8.4%) and Lucid (-8.23%) led 12 decliners, and EnerSys's slip under its 200-day leaves Bloom Energy the only name of 21 above it. Plug Power (RSI 27.6) is the board's one washout; Tesla closed 2% under its 200-day after a +3.27% week.

Data as of the 2026-10-09 close (settled, Friday). The previous edition closed October 2; the seven-day column runs from that close to this one, so it is the change since then.

Quick Snapshot

Signal Reading
Overall 🔴 Weak: 9 up, 12 down; 1 of 21 above its 200-day average. The bounce came in broken EV trends; the heaviest losses hit T1 Energy, Plug Power, EnerSys and Lucid.
Leaders LI (7.95%), XPEV (7.03%), NIO (6.23%)
Laggards TE (-13.52%), PLUG (-11.58%), ENS (-8.4%)
Caveat Tape from the desk's pre-computed summaries, 2026-10-09 close. News for most names was last pulled before this week's moves and no October 9 captures are on file yet, so most causes read "not on file", which is not the same as no cause.

What's Going On

Li Auto ($11.54, RSI 49.8), XPeng ($9.9, RSI 43.3) and NIO ($3.58, RSI 44.7) rose 3.66% to 5.87% on Friday alone, on 1.42 to 1.7 times average volume. The bounce lifted XPeng and NIO out of the sub-30 RSI readings they carried on October 2, but all three remain broken long trends: 24.3% to 35.3% under their 200-day averages and down 51.12% to 56.79% on the year. Cause not on file: their news was last pulled between August 28 and September 6, so it does not cover the move, and the event records and October 3–8 captures carry nothing on the three companies. CNBC's October 8 piece on Britain weighing tariffs on Chinese EVs is industry context, not a receipt.

T1 Energy fell 13.52% to $3.39 (30-day -30.96%, 47.2% under its 200-day) and Plug Power 11.58% to $1.68, the only washout at RSI 27.6 (1Y -55.56%); both are broken trends with no base. EnerSys gave back 8.4% after leading on October 2 and now closes 5.7% under its 200-day ($190.61) on a +58.41% year, so its long trend moved from intact to under test. Lucid fell 8.23% and is -82.53% on the year. Causes not on file: news for T1 (September 19), Plug (August 11), Lucid (July 17) and EnerSys (October 3) predates the moves, and the event records and October 3–8 captures carry nothing on them.

Bloom Energy is the one intact trend: -2.99% on the week to $280.5 (RSI 54), 32% above its 200-day on a +223.72% year, 13.8% above its 50-day and -20.15% from its high. That is a deep pullback in an intact trend, the flag shape rather than a break. MarketBeat's October 8 news page attributes that day's drop of more than 3% to an Oracle force-majeure notice and insider selling; that is an aggregator's characterization, and no primary receipt for the notice is on file. Tesla rose 3.27% to $382.7 and closed 2% under its 200-day ($390.6) on a -12.13% year, just below the $386.83 top of a 7.8-week range; a close above both lines would be the first step of repair. Tesla is scheduled to report on October 21, per the October 8 market brief.

Lithium kept bleeding: Albemarle -3.17% (30-day -19.57%, RSI 31.4, 34.4% under its 200-day despite a +4.94% year) and SQM -0.95% (30-day -15.31%, 16.7% under its 200-day on a +47.87% year). Both are positive-year trends under test, not yet washouts. Solar stayed broken: First Solar +1.84% (1Y -24.11%), Enphase -1.97%, SolarEdge -2.66%, with TAN -0.68% and ICLN +0.52%.

What Changed Since Prior Scan

Nine up and twelve down, against eight up and thirteen down on October 2. Names above their 200-day fell from two (Bloom, EnerSys) to one (Bloom). The washout list swapped NIO and XPeng (out) for Plug Power (in). Leaders went from EnerSys, Nextracker and T1 Energy to Li Auto, XPeng and NIO, and T1 went from third-best to worst.

How To Read The Board

This is a price-and-momentum screen built from the desk's pre-computed summaries: it shows where each name sits on the tape, not why it moved. RSI under 30 is a washout and 70 or above is extended; neither is a recommendation on its own. The structure label carries the long view, and it outranks the week:

  • Trend intact: above the 200-day average with a positive trailing year. A bad week here is a pullback.
  • Repair: above the 200-day but still down on the year. Price has recovered; the trend has not yet proved itself.
  • Trend under test: below the 200-day with a positive year. The 200-day is the line to retake.
  • Trend broken: below the 200-day and down on the year.

A raw screen reading becomes a setup only when an intact trend pulls back and holds a level, then turns up. No insider, fundamentals or options data is included.
