EV & Clean Energy Scan — October 16, 2026 Close
EV & Clean Energy Scan — October 16, 2026 Close
Every name on the board fell — 21 of 21 down on the week and on Friday — led by T1 Energy (-22.71%), Bloom Energy (-21.1%), Plug Power (-17.86%) and Lucid (-17.41%), and Bloom, the one name above its 200-day, now clears that line by only 2.3%. Nine names are at RSI under 30 (a week ago: one), Tesla closed 8.6% under its 200-day, and last week's China-EV bounce reversed.
Data as of the 2026-10-16 close (settled, Friday). The previous edition closed October 9; the seven-day column runs from that close to this one, so it is the change since then.
Quick Snapshot
| Signal | Reading |
|---|---|
| Overall | 🔴 Washed out and broken: 0 of 21 up, 1 of 21 above its 200-day average, 9 at RSI under 30 (PLUG and RIVN under 25). Fifteen trends are broken, five are under test and one is intact. |
| Leaders | LI (-1.73%), SEDG (-2.64%), FSLR (-2.91%), the smallest declines |
| Laggards | TE (-22.71%), BE (-21.1%), PLUG (-17.86%) |
| Caveat | Tape from pre-computed price summaries, 2026-10-16 close. News for most names was last pulled before Friday's session, so most causes read "not on file", which is not the same as no cause. |
What's Going On
The week was uniform. Every name fell on Friday as well, from SEDG's -0.22% to T1 Energy's -10.58% and Lucid's -10.57%, and nine closed at RSI under 30: Plug Power 20.8, Rivian 23.1, DRIV 25.6, T1 Energy 26.1, Albemarle 26.4, LIT 26.8, Lucid 27.4, KARS 27.6 and SQM 28.3. A week ago Plug (27.6) was the only washout. Plug is -60.34% on the year, Lucid -84.75% and T1 Energy -44.14%; Rivian (-11.03% on the week) crossed to a negative year (-3.8%), which moves it from under test to broken.
Bloom Energy is the one intact trend and the one to watch. It fell 6.34% on Friday to $221.31 (RSI 36.5), 21.1% on the week, and is 37% under its high and 11% under its 50-day. It remains 2.3% above its 200-day ($216.30) on a +92.29% year, against $280.50 and 32% above the line on October 9. It is still a pullback in an intact trend, but the 200-day is now the thing that holds or breaks; the company is estimated to report on October 22 after the close. Cause not on file: the October 14 news pull holds a Reuters quote page and company results releases, nothing dated to the move. Context only: the October 15 market brief records stress in CoreWeave and Oracle credit; no receipt ties Bloom's week to it.
Tesla fell 7.31% over seven days to $354.72 (RSI 42.2), 8.6% under its 200-day ($387.99) against 2% under a week ago, on a -17.27% year and 28.89% under its high; it reports October 21 after the close (scheduled). Context, not a cause: the Roadster reveal on Thursday night (CNBC, Bloomberg) and a Barclays note on a Tesla-SpaceX merger (Bloomberg, October 15) were in the news. The China-EV bounce reversed over seven days: Li Auto -1.73% (RSI 47.2, the only name at its 20-day), NIO -4.19% (RSI 41.2) and XPeng -6.77% (RSI 35.5), after +7.95%, +6.23% and +7.03% the week before; all three remain broken, 24.9% to 38.6% under their 200-days on years of -49.76% to -56.81%.
Lithium names and the EV and lithium funds were washouts too over the same seven days. Albemarle (-5.72%, RSI 26.4, 1Y +0.2%, 37.7% under its 200-day), SQM (-5.81%, RSI 28.3, +35.46%, 21.3% under), LIT (-8.15%, RSI 26.8, +11.55%, 14.6% under) and DRIV (-7.17%, RSI 25.6, +4.5%, 11.9% under) are washouts in positive-year trends under test, but Albemarle's year is barely positive. Solar fell less over the seven days (FSLR -2.91%, SEDG -2.64%, ENPH -6.67%, TAN -4.34%) and stays broken. Cause not on file for the board: the stock-event records for October 13-16 carry nothing on these names, and the October 13-16 captures carry no company item on the others. Context only: Bloomberg's Friday captures describe the S&P 500's biggest weekly loss since June with oil at $110 a barrel, and the October 16 market conditions snapshot lists EV and clean energy among the outflows (30-day relative strength -10.79).
What Changed Since Prior Scan
Nine up and twelve down on October 9 became zero up and twenty-one down. Bloom stayed the only name above its 200-day, but its cushion went from 32% to 2.3%. The RSI-under-30 list went from one name (Plug) to nine. The under-test group shrank from eight to five as Rivian (-3.8%), Nextracker (-8.61%) and ICLN (-2.74%) crossed to negative years and became broken. The October 9 leaders (Li Auto, XPeng, NIO) gave back their bounce, though Li Auto still fell least; T1 Energy was the worst name both weeks.
How To Read The Board
This is a price-and-momentum screen built from pre-computed price summaries: it shows where each name sits on the tape, not why it moved. RSI under 30 is a washout and 70 or above is extended; neither is a recommendation on its own. The structure label carries the long view and outranks the week: trend intact is above the 200-day average with a positive trailing year (a bad week here is a pullback); repair is above the 200-day but down on the year; trend under test is below the 200-day with a positive year (the 200-day is the line to retake); trend broken is below the 200-day and down on the year. A raw reading becomes a setup only when an intact trend pulls back, holds a level and turns up. No insider, fundamentals or options data is included.

What To Watch Next
| Watch | Trigger | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| BE | Holds the 200-day (216.3) into the October 22 report | A close under it removes the board's only intact trend. |
| TSLA | Report October 21; two closes above the 200-day (387.99) end the broken label | Price is far below the line; the 50-day (359.46) is the nearer test. |
| PLUG, RIVN | RSI back above 30 and a close above the 20-day (PLUG 1.81, RIVN 14.35) | The two readings under 25; a washout is not a base. |
| LIT, ALB, SQM, ENS | Close above the 50-day (LIT 71.93, ALB 119.39, SQM 71.14, ENS 183.83) | The first level a bounce in a trend under test has to clear. |
| LI | Holds its 20-day (11.33) | The only name at or above its 20-day; the other 20 close under theirs. |
| ENPH, NXT, FSLR | Reports October 27, 28 and 29 (after the close) | The next company prints on the board. |
