Software and Power Took the AI Bid From the Chips; Starlink Knocked 10% Off the Carriers

Market Brief Ticker Tape

The Read

In the week to Friday, October 9, the S&P 500 fund finished 0.39% under its high while AI money moved out of the chipmakers and into software, security and running power plants, and on Friday SpaceX's spectrum deal took 10.14% to 13.27% off the three big US carriers.

The index waited; the bond market did not

How the week ran. Monday the Nasdaq-100 set a record while Vaxcyte's Phase 3 win lifted biotech and Brazil's fund jumped on the first-round election result (Bloomberg; Endpoints News; CNBC). Tuesday the S&P 500 posted its first record close since August (Bloomberg), carried by nuclear power and AI networking. Wednesday's Fed minutes leaned hawkish, and the neocloud, crypto, quantum and nuclear lanes sold as blocks. Thursday OpenAI's smaller revenue figure hit every layer of AI hardware, and SpaceX announced its spectrum purchase after the bell. Friday the carriers paid for it while software, copper and Chinese stocks led.

The S&P 500 fund is one confirmation short of a clean advance. It closed Friday at $778.57, up 1.16% on the week and 7.7% above its 200-day on a +16% year. The confirmation needs two closes above $779.37 with the Nasdaq-100 fund above $748.65 and the VIX under 16. The last two legs hold (the Nasdaq-100 fund at $751.27, the VIX at 14.84); the first does not, after Tuesday's $779.09 and Friday's close both stopped just short. Bloomberg had stocks ending the week "inches away from record highs" as AI-bubble fears faded.

Breadth repaired; small caps did not. The equal-weight fund rose 1.58% on the week against the Nasdaq-100 fund's 0.23%, and its RSI is back to 50.8 from the oversold mid-30s of October 2. Friday was broad: 821 names rose and 393 fell. Two regime gauges changed state on the close. Volatility moved to compressed, with the VIX at 14.84 and the VIX futures fund 33% under its 200-day. Broad breadth moved from deteriorating to mixed: 66.7% of the core index and sector funds sit above their 20-day averages, but only 40% above their 50-day. The Russell 2000 fund is the holdout, down 0.92% on the week at RSI 38.5 and 0.7% above a $277.06 200-day. JPMorgan data relayed on X puts the share of S&P 500 members that beat the index over three years at 30%, the lowest since 1991.

Rates stayed above the line, and some of the selling looks forced. The 10-year was 5.22% on October 8 (FRED), down from 5.31% on October 5 and above 5% since mid-September. The Fed's minutes on October 7 showed all 19 officials behind September's hike (Bloomberg). On Friday Bloomberg reported asset managers dumping long-duration Treasury futures, which it reads as forced deleveraging, and wrote that the rate shock is spreading beneath the AI-led index. The long-bond fund sits at RSI 34.8, 8.4% under its 200-day on a −12.56% year. The dollar fund closed at RSI 69.9, 0.21% under its high, on what Bloomberg called the dollar's longest winning streak since early 2025. Credit moved but did not break: the high-yield spread was 3.15% on October 8, up from 3.09% the day before and under its 3.50 stress line. CNBC's Friday read on junk bonds was "flashing yellow." Polymarket prices a 2026 recession at 7%, down a point on the week.

Inside AI: the bid left the hardware

Thursday's OpenAI figure split the AI trade. OpenAI told investors its annualized revenue was about $50 billion at end-September, against the $68 billion to $70 billion widely cited (Financial Times, confirmed by CNBC, October 8). The semiconductor fund fell 4.32% on the week; Arm fell 13.4%, Intel 12.26% and SK hynix's US shares 13.38%. None of it is a broken trend. The chip fund sits 19.2% above its 200-day on a +75.32% year, and Arm 21% above its own on +56.03%: deep pullbacks inside intact trends. CNBC reported bears adding large positions against the chip group on Friday through Micron and NVIDIA trades, and options traders the most braced for a tech pullback since early summer.

Software and security took the money. Zscaler rose 18.89% on the week and Okta 9.76%. All four cloud-software funds closed above ranges they had held for about nine weeks, and the WCLD cloud fund finished at its 52-week high. Friday was the broadest day: web-cloud names went 9 for 9 at a +6.0% median and cybersecurity 11 for 11 at +4.5%. Three moves carry dated causes. Fastly rose 15.86% on an Oppenheimer upgrade to Outperform with a $35 target (Yahoo Finance). Akamai rose 6% on a seven-year cloud agreement with Anthropic (Mitrade). Datadog rose 7.11% after CIBC raised its target to $315 (StockAnalysis). News pulled Friday carries nothing dated to the Zscaler, Okta or Palo Alto moves. Okta (RSI 76.5), Datadog (73.4), Zscaler (72.9) and Palantir (76.3), which Barchart says hit an all-time high on Friday, are extended; the entry is a retest, not this print.

Power plants repaired; the build-out did not. Talen rose 18.02% on the week, Constellation 15.76% and Vistra 15.33%. Constellation's Tuesday jump followed a Google agreement that MarketWatch says equals a new reactor's output; Vistra's followed a $4.2 billion Energy Department loan commitment reported by The Motley Fool. All three are back above their 200-days but down 14.83% to 23.1% on the year: repairs, not leaders. The capex-funded side lagged. The uranium fund fell 2.24% and sits 19% under its 200-day, and 5 of 19 backup-power makers rose on the week.

Neoclouds: one intact trend, one repair

All ten GPU-hosting names fell on the week, from 1.36% (Cerebras) to 15.73% (IREN); seven rose on Friday. Nebius closed at $221.07, above the $219.70 shelf named in the October 7 market brief and 28.9% above its 200-day on a +66.67% year: a deep pullback in an intact trend. Hut 8 is the change. It rose 5.88% on 1.23 times volume to close 3.6% above its 200-day ($81.37), undoing Thursday's break on a +81.77% year; news pulled Friday holds only an aggregator note on a price-target tweak, so the cause is not on file. CoreWeave ($82.08) is 11.3% under its 200-day on a −42.63% year, and IREN, Cipher, TeraWulf, Applied Digital, Core Scientific and Galaxy sit under theirs: broken. StockAnalysis ties IREN's weekly drop to SemiAnalysis flagging data-center customer concerns. The financing headlines kept coming: Firmus Grid is expected to shelve its Australian IPO (Bloomberg, October 8), a Quinn Emanuel memo on worst cases for data-center debt circulated (Semafor, October 9), and SemiAnalysis argued that rising H100 rents break the depreciation curve lenders underwrite.

The suppliers kept their long trends. Micron sits 46.6% above its 200-day on a +435.02% year after a −4.27% week, and filed its fiscal 2026 annual report on Friday. Lumentum rose 5.22% after its CEO told Bloomberg its optical parts are sold out through early 2029 (relayed on X); it is 3.47% under its high on a +590.64% year. Western Digital is the weak one, 2.1% under its 200-day.

The carriers paid for a network that is still years out. On the first full session after SpaceX agreed to buy Grain Management's 800 MHz licenses (CNBC, October 8), T-Mobile fell 13.27%, AT&T 10.82% and Verizon 10.14%, on 3.66 to 4.3 times normal volume. CNBC called it Verizon's worst day since 2002. AST SpaceMobile fell 10.47% after losing a spectrum source it had pursued (The Economic Times). American Tower rose 9.3% on 2.97 times volume. SpaceX rose 1.25% to $162.57 on ordinary volume, on the day a scheduled lock-up release of up to 328.4 million shares came due. None of the carriers had a trend to defend: Verizon is up 2.01% on the year and 10.5% under its 200-day at RSI 21.8, AT&T is down 15.02% and T-Mobile 34.32%. An oversold reading on a flat or falling year is not an entry. The FCC is scheduled to vote October 29 on seeking comment for 482 MHz more of spectrum for coverage from space (CNBC).

The rest of Friday's tape

Copper and China rallied on the day China's property floor fell away. Copper miners went 7 for 7 at +4.3%, with Bloomberg crediting strengthening Chinese demand signals for copper's weekly gain. Chinese internet stocks went 8 for 8 at +3.1%; the only item on file is an X post relaying a Jefferies top-pick call on Alibaba, whose own news was last pulled September 3, so the cause is not established. The same afternoon Barchart posted that Chinese home prices are at their lowest in at least 20 years. Alibaba is still 14.3% under its 200-day on a −35.88% year: a bounce, not a trend.

Biotech kept its bid; agriculture lost its. Biotech closed 12 of 13 up. Moderna rose 14.21% to a 52-week high on its addition to the Nasdaq-100 (StockAnalysis). Humana rose 11.56% on 3.9 times volume after its 8-K said its 2027 Medicare Advantage Star Ratings beat its goal, with Baird upgrading it to Outperform (The Fly, via Yahoo Finance). The food-security list went 1 of 11 up at a −3.4% median, the only lane that sold as one. Deere fell 9.62% on the week, part of it after the FTC and USDA opened a farm-equipment inquiry (Bloomberg, October 7). Mosaic closed at RSI 23.1, 23.2% under its 200-day on a −43.96% year: broken. Nutrien slipped under its 200-day and the $69 stop named in earlier briefs; Quiver Quantitative ties the slide to its Trinidad nitrogen shutdown. Barchart's "timber" post on corn carried no figure, so Friday's selling has no clean cause.

Supply news pulled oil both ways. Hurricane Isaias shut almost three-quarters of US Gulf oil output (Bloomberg), a pilot was killed in Houthi attacks on Riyadh's airport (CNBC), and a large tanker from the US to Asia now costs up to $77 million to hire, from under $10 million last year (Semafor). Against that, the US struck a deal with Russia to supply diesel to US and world markets (CNBC); Zelensky called lifting the sanctions "not fair and not honest" (Axios, relayed by The Kobeissi Letter). The oil fund ended the week up 0.56% and the Brent fund 1.41%. Valero gave back 2.26% Friday at RSI 69.8; Yahoo Finance framed the G7 stock releases and wider tax-exempt diesel access as a margin test for refiners, and nothing on file ties the drop to the Russian deal. Delta posted its first miss against estimates in two years and cut its 2026 forecast on fuel (CNBC), and the stock closed up 0.04% on 1.49 times volume.

What is quiet

The defense primes moved less than 1% each through a week of tanker attacks and missiles on Riyadh, and none of the 12 defense names sits above its 200-day. Crypto drained from the edges: bitcoin fell 2.55% on the week and holds 14.6% above its 200-day on a −32.35% year, while Marathon, Riot and CleanSpark fell 14.07% to 17.58% and closed under theirs. Gold rose 1.57% Friday and is still 7.5% under its 200-day. Only 3 of 13 quantum names rose Friday. The bargain list is empty, with nothing in its universe under RSI 30. The momentum board holds 481 names, against 492 a week earlier.

The calls

Rocket Lab's watch call is invalidated: it closed at $68.21, under the $68.29 volume shelf the call named. Microsoft closed at $535.07, just under its $535.69 base pivot; a close through it is the trigger. TSMC slipped to $453.31, under its $461.47 pivot, ahead of its October 15 report. NVIDIA, context only, sits at $229.28 under its $236.54 pivot. Two calls are new: a watch on Constellation, for a pullback that holds the $286.14 200-day while RSI cools under 55 and then a close above $300.40, and a pass on AST SpaceMobile until it reclaims its 50-day ($62.85). Lilly sits inside its $1,160–$1,197 zone at $1,179.27. None of the 14 names with three or more signals lit has more than three of the five. The Bloom Energy and Generac deep dives both say wait. Bloom's buy is a retest of $256–$273 that holds, with a $240 stop and its report scheduled for October 27; Generac's is a pullback into $212–$219, with a $198 stop.

Watch Monday: the bond market is closed for Columbus Day while stocks trade (MarketWatch), and FedEx and Nurix are scheduled to report after the close (provider dates). JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and UnitedHealth are scheduled for Tuesday, October 13; the September CPI, ASML, Bank of America and Morgan Stanley for Wednesday, October 14; TSMC for Thursday. The levels: two S&P 500 fund closes above $779.37; the small-cap fund's $277.06 200-day; Nebius's $219.70 shelf and Hut 8's $81.37 200-day; Microsoft's $535.69 pivot. A high-yield spread at 3.50 or a VIX at 20 would turn a rotation into a risk-off market.

Pulse

  • SpaceX moves onto the carriers' turf — Friday priced Starlink as a fourth US mobile carrier: T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon fell 13.27%, 10.82% and 10.14%, AST SpaceMobile lost a spectrum source it had pursued, and American Tower rose 9.3%, a jump Investing.com tied to the deal. FCC approval, or the agency's October 29 vote on more space spectrum, would extend the repricing; a slow approval would ease it. Telecom carriers ↓ · Satellite-to-phone rivals ↓ · Tower owners ↑. CNBC, 2026-10-09. Change: none proposed.
  • The US lets Russian diesel flow — The administration struck a deal with Putin to supply Russian diesel to US and world markets ahead of the midterms, and Zelensky called lifting the sanctions "not fair and not honest." More diesel narrows refining margins and cuts fuel bills for airlines and truckers; a strategist quoted by MarketWatch called it "too little, too late." Refiners ↓ · Airlines ↑. CNBC and MarketWatch, 2026-10-09; Zelensky via Axios, relayed by The Kobeissi Letter, 2026-10-09. Change: none proposed.
  • The Gulf supply shock widens — Hurricane Isaias shut almost three-quarters of US Gulf oil output and threatens refineries, a pilot was killed in Houthi attacks on Riyadh's airport, and a US-to-Asia crude tanker now costs up to $77 million to hire. Delta cut its 2026 forecast on fuel and is weighing its Riyadh launch. Oil ↑ · Tankers ↑ · Airlines ↓. Bloomberg and CNBC, 2026-10-09; Semafor, 2026-10-08. Change: none proposed.
  • China's property floor against China's demand story — Barchart flagged Chinese home prices at their lowest in at least 20 years on the day copper closed 7 for 7 on what Bloomberg called strengthening Chinese demand signals and Chinese internet stocks went 8 for 8. A deeper property slump would undercut the copper-demand read; a policy response would extend both rallies. Copper ↓ · China tech ↓. Barchart and Bloomberg, 2026-10-09. Change: none proposed.
  • Grain and fertilizer sell as one — The food-security list closed 1 of 11 up at a −3.4% median; Mosaic fell to RSI 23.1 and Nutrien under its 200-day, which Quiver Quantitative ties to its Trinidad nitrogen shutdown. Barchart's "timber" post on corn carried no figure. Lower grain prices squeeze farm incomes, which feed fertilizer and equipment demand. Fertilizer ↓ · Farm equipment ↓. Barchart and Quiver Quantitative, 2026-10-09. Change: none proposed.

Hatch: open — the selling stayed inside telecom and agriculture, the VIX closed at 14.84, the high-yield spread was 3.15% on October 8 and broad breadth improved to mixed. Nothing in credit or volatility argues for tightening tonight; a VIX at 20 or a spread at 3.50 would.

Three Things

  1. Software and power took the AI bid from the chips. Zscaler rose 18.89% and Constellation 15.76% on the week while the semiconductor fund fell 4.32% after Thursday's OpenAI revenue report; the chip fund still sits 19.2% above its 200-day on a +75.32% year, a pullback rather than a break.
  2. SpaceX's spectrum deal took 10.14% to 13.27% off the three big carriers in one session. CNBC called it Verizon's worst day since 2002, and none of the three had an intact long trend to lose.
  3. The index is one confirmation short. The S&P 500 fund closed at $778.57, 0.39% under its high and just under the $779.37 line, while equal weight beat the Nasdaq-100 on the week (+1.58% against +0.23%) and small caps fell 0.92%.

The Big Picture — The AI Trade Changed Seats

The index barely moved this week because the two halves of the AI trade swapped places underneath it.

Act 1 — Hardware hands off to software and power

The semiconductor fund fell 4.32%, Arm 13.4%, Intel 12.26%, Amkor 12.32% and SK hynix's US shares 13.38%, most of it after the October 8 report that OpenAI's annualized revenue is about $50 billion (Financial Times, CNBC). Zscaler rose 18.89%, Okta 9.76%, Talen 18.02% and Constellation 15.76%. The month's rotation map says the same thing: money into cybersecurity (relative strength +21.8) and out of nuclear fuel (−19.1), food security (−18.5) and neoclouds (−17.7), with the build-out chip lanes listed as fading leaders. The long windows argue against calling it a top. Every chip name on the NVIDIA ecosystem board still has a positive year, and the chip fund is 19.2% above its 200-day. The seats changed; the trend did not end.

Act 2 — Rates hold the floor

The 10-year sat at 5.22% on October 8, the long-bond fund is down 12.56% on the year, and Bloomberg reported forced selling of long-duration Treasury futures on Friday. The dollar fund closed 0.21% under its high. That is a hard floor under valuations, and the weakest boards are the ones that run on borrowed money: GPU hosts, homebuilders and small caps. It has not reached credit or volatility. The high-yield spread was 3.15%, the VIX closed at 14.84, and equal weight beat the Nasdaq-100 on the week. While those hold, this is rotation, not de-risking.

Act 3 — The real economy sent its bills

Friday's damage came from outside AI. SpaceX's 800 MHz purchase took 10.14% to 13.27% off the carriers. Delta missed for the first time in two years and cut its 2026 forecast on fuel (CNBC). The food-security list sold as one. Hurricane Isaias shut most of the Gulf's oil output (Bloomberg) while Washington moved to let Russian diesel flow (CNBC). Bloomberg's phrase for the week was a rate shock "spreading beneath" an AI-fueled rally. Friday's losers were businesses exposed to a new competitor, fuel costs or grain prices.

Focus List

MSFT — Up 2.38% to $535.07 on a +3.39% week, just under the $535.69 pivot of a 9.6-week base, 23.3% above its 200-day on a +2.43% year at RSI 67.5. A close through the pivot is the trigger; MarketWatch says it is close to reclaiming a $4 trillion value. TSLA — Up 2.05% to $382.7, 2% under its 200-day ($390.6) on a −12.13% year. Broken until it retakes that line; its report is scheduled for October 21. NVDA — Context only. Down 0.52% to $229.28, under its $236.54 pivot and 3.3% under the $237–$245 zone, 13.4% above its 200-day on a +19.06% year. CNBC reported large bearish trades in NVIDIA and Micron on Friday. AAPL — Down 1.11% to $336.64, shifting from uptrend to basing; 15.8% above its 200-day on a +32.51% year and 2.52% under its high. Nothing to do. GOOGL — Up 0.97% to $351.66, 3.4% above its 200-day ($340.03) on a +45.6% year. The 200-day decides it. AMZN — Up 3.29% to $262.43 on a +4.34% week, 6.2% above the $242–$247 retest zone and 8.4% above its 200-day on a +15.23% year. Let it come in. NET — Up 5.57% to $360.93 with web cloud, 2.54% under its 52-week high and 51% above its 200-day on a +63.35% year. A leader, 14.2% over its 50-day; no chase. ARM — Down 3.27% to $266.28 on a −13.4% week, 41.18% off its high but 21% above its 200-day on a +56.03% year. A deep pullback in an intact trend. NTR — Down 3.42% to $67.48 on 1.83 times volume, under its 200-day ($70.54) and the $69 stop, on a +10.42% year. The stop is hit; the long trend is under test. MU — Down 0.66% to $1,029 on a −4.27% week, 46.6% above its 200-day on a +435.02% year, between the $963.75 shelf and the $1,108.72 pivot. It filed its fiscal 2026 annual report Friday. A pullback in trend. SNDK — Down 1.72% to $1,581.82 on a −8.03% week, 33.9% above its 200-day on a +1,119.79% year and 32.81% off its high. No zone until it bases. OUST — Up 0.94% to $39.9 after a −10.11% week, 25% above its 200-day on a +29.34% year and above the $37.13 shelf. A pullback in trend. IONQ — Up 1.12% to $39.89, 7.8% under its 200-day on a −48.53% year. The repair is unfinished. RGTI — Down 0.78%, 22.5% under its 200-day on a −70.22% year. No setup. QBTS — Down 0.21%, 29% under its 200-day on a −58.45% year. No setup. QUBT — Down 0.13%, thesis rated broken, 18.2% under its 200-day on a −65.1% year. No setup. INFQ — Down 1.08% on a −16.05% week, 16.2% under its 200-day on a −48.87% year. No setup. XNDU — Down 5.34% to $3.9 at RSI 22, 67% under its 200-day and 90.81% off its high. A collapse. HQ — Down 0.06% on 0.29 times normal volume. Too young for a long-horizon read. ARQQ — Down 6.51% to $17.23 on a −30.02% week, with MarketBeat citing insider sales after its preliminary results; 8.7% under its 200-day on a −68.02% year. A lottery ticket, not a setup. LAES — Down 6.22% to $2.11 as SEALSQ backs a $666 million Quantisimo listing (Benzinga); 32.5% under its 200-day on a −65.35% year. Nothing to do. PL — Down 0.06% to $17.18, thesis rated broken, 37.1% under its 200-day. Revisit only on a held close above the 50-day. ARGX — Up 0.78% to $825.03 after a −10.25% week on its Sjögren's trial halt (Endpoints News, October 8); 3.2% under its 200-day ($851.97) at RSI 25.9, above the $807.38 shelf. A trend under test; its report is scheduled for October 22. ILMN — Up 5.14% to $278.17, 67.3% above its 200-day on a +188.41% year; BofA raised its target to $168 while keeping Underperform (StockAnalysis). A parabolic trend resting. SHOP — Up 3.82% to $170.85 on a +12.85% week at RSI 72.8, 31.9% above its 200-day on a +4.26% year. Extended; its report is scheduled for November 3. NFLX — Down 1.77% to $70.3, 15.8% under its 200-day on a −42.9% year. Broken.

Microsoft is the focus name closest to a signal. The base is 9.6 weeks old, the stock sits 23.3% above its 200-day, and Friday's close stopped just under the $535.69 pivot on 0.8 times normal volume. A settled close above the pivot on rising volume is the entry; the $498.33 support shelf sits beneath. The weak point is the year: +2.43%, 13.58 points behind the index.

Nutrien is the one that changed for the worse. It closed under the $69 stop and 4.3% under its 200-day, on 1.83 times volume, the day the whole food-security list sold. The +10.42% year keeps it a trend under test rather than a broken one, but the stop is the stop.

Apple's shift to basing is a rest, not a crack. It is 2.52% under its high on a +32.51% year with the trend still classed strong-up; the change comes after a flat week (+0.88%) and a +6.75% month.

Argenx is still a repair job. The October 8 trial halt took it under its 200-day; Friday's 0.78% bounce at RSI 25.9 does not change that. No entry before a reclaim of the $851.97 200-day; the October 22 report is the next test.

Sector Scorecard

Web cloud — +6.0% median, 9 of 9 up, leading on the month (relative strength +9.2). Fastly +15.86% on Oppenheimer's upgrade with a $35 target, DigitalOcean +8.81%, Snowflake +7.42%, Datadog +7.11% after CIBC's $315 target (RSI 73.4), Akamai +6% on an Anthropic cloud deal (Mitrade) though still 4.6% under its 200-day. The month's leader had its broadest day. Cybersecurity — +4.5%, 11 of 11, the month's strongest lane (relative strength +21.8). All 11 sit above their 200-days; Zscaler +7.8% Friday (RSI 72.9) is still −25.85% on the year, a repair, and Okta is 101.1% above its 200-day at RSI 76.5. Copper — +4.3%, 7 of 7, neutral on the month (relative strength −5.4). Southern Copper +5.31%, Teck +4.98%, on what Bloomberg called stronger Chinese demand signals. The copper miners' fund is only 2.9% above its 200-day after a −9.99% month: one day, not a turn. China tech — +3.1%, 8 of 8, an early turn (relative strength −1.6). Alibaba +5.36% on 1.45 times volume; its news was not pulled for this move, and an X post relaying a Jefferies top-pick call is unverified. Nautilus +23.63%, with only quote pages in news pulled Friday. Cloud ETFs — +2.8%, 4 of 4, leading (relative strength +8.5). All four broke nine-week ranges; WCLD is at its high, and the software fund IGV is still −2.59% on the year. Cloud SaaS — +2.8%, 13 of 16, leading (relative strength +8.2). Intuit (−53.06% year) and HubSpot (−49.6%) stay broken despite weekly bounces. High-speed PCBs and server networking — +3.0%, 3 of 3, fading on the month (relative strength +3.4): a one-day re-rate. Semis — −0.7%, 5 of 18, fading (relative strength +2.5). Skyworks −5.45%, Amkor −3.69%, Arm −3.27%. Amkor, 14.7% under its 200-day, is the real break; the rest are pullbacks. TSMC (−1.02%) closed at $453.31, under its $461.47 pivot. DRAM — −0.8%, 1 of 4, lagging (relative strength −2.2). SK hynix's US shares −13.38% on the week; Micron −0.66% Friday. Applied Materials, Lam and KLA each slipped about half a percent on light volume; all three hold above their 200-days. Glass-core and panel-level packaging — −0.5%, 3 of 8, fading (relative strength +2.8). Amkor and Intel dragged; ASE (+2.59%) holds the lane's strongest trend. Defensive — −0.7%, 6 of 15, an early turn (relative strength −7.4). The telecom pair did the damage (Verizon −10.14%, AT&T −10.82%) while utilities rose 0.83%; 13 of 15 still sit under their 200-days. Food security — −3.4%, 1 of 11, the one lane that sold as one, and the month's second-weakest (relative strength −18.5). Fertilizer and equipment led down: FMC −6.39%, Mosaic −5.02% (23.2% under its 200-day on a −43.96% year), Deere −4.85%, Bunge −4.72%. Healthcare — +1.6%, 20 of 24 up, its pullback repaired on the week. Humana +11.56% on 3.9 times volume after its 8-K on Star Ratings and a Baird upgrade; Lilly sits inside its $1,160–$1,197 zone at $1,179.27. Quantum computing — 3 of 13 up Friday. Arqit −6.51% and SEALSQ −6.22% led down; nothing in the group has a setup. Neoclouds — 7 of 10 up Friday after a week in which all ten fell, from 1.36% (Cerebras) to 15.73% (IREN). Hut 8 rose 5.88% on 1.23 times volume to retake its $81.37 200-day; Nebius holds 28.9% above its own. The other eight are under theirs or too young to have one, CoreWeave 11.3% under.

Market Vibe

This was a rotation week dressed up as a quiet one. The S&P 500 fund gained 1.16% and ended just shy of its confirmation line (Tuesday's $779.09 and Friday's $778.57 both stopped under $779.37), but underneath, the chip fund lost 4.32% while the cloud funds broke out and three power producers rose more than 15%. The equal-weight fund beat the Nasdaq-100 fund, which is what a healthy rotation looks like, and Friday's 821-to-393 breadth backs it. The counterweight is small caps, down on the week and sitting 0.7% above their 200-day, and the JPMorgan figure relayed on X: only 30% of S&P 500 members have beaten the index over three years. Eric Balchunas's answer, that the megacaps are each a basket of hundreds of acquired companies, explains why the index can rise on a narrow base; it does not make small caps any stronger.

The odd part is how calm the gauges stayed while the bond market strained. Bloomberg reported forced selling in long-duration Treasury futures and the dollar on its longest winning streak since early 2025, the long-bond fund is down 12.56% on the year, and yet the VIX closed at 14.84 and the high-yield spread sat at 3.15%. Two regime gauges eased on the close: volatility to compressed and breadth from deteriorating to mixed. Either the rate pressure is a forced positioning unwind, as Bloomberg's futures report suggests, or credit is late. The 3.50 spread line separates the two.

The weird stuff sat at the edges. The carriers lost 10.14% to 13.27% for a Starlink network that SpaceX's own prospectus ties to a 2027 spectrum close, while SpaceX rose on a lock-up release day. Copper and Chinese stocks rallied on Chinese demand the afternoon Barchart said Chinese home prices hit a 20-year low. Delta missed and cut its forecast and closed green. Hurricane Isaias shut most of the Gulf's oil output in the same news cycle that the US moved to let Russian diesel flow, and oil barely moved on the week.

6b. Dispatches

Cloud ETFs — All four cloud-software funds rose for a second straight week (WCLD +6.06%, CLOU +4.51%, SKYY +4.01%, IGV +3.91%) and closed above the top of ranges each had held for about nine weeks, with WCLD at its 52-week high. The breakout came with breadth: web-cloud names went 9 for 9 on Friday. RSI runs 65.6 to 69.3, strong and close to extended. The entry is the first retest of the range top, not Friday's print; IGV's −2.59% year is the caveat.

Defensives — The oversold core moved from retail to telecom. Verizon and AT&T closed at RSI 21.8 and 25.9 on about four times normal volume after the SpaceX deal, while last week's washouts, McDonald's, Home Depot and Lowe's, bounced to RSI 36.7 to 41.9. Staples and utilities recovered, but 13 of 15 names are still under their 200-days, and only Target and Ecolab hold intact long trends. The defensive bid is a bounce.

Food Security — Ten of 11 names closed red Friday, with fertilizer and Deere falling on above-normal volume. Deere lost 9.62% on the week and its cushion over the 200-day shrank from 16.9% to 4.8%; Mosaic fell into capitulation at RSI 23.1, and CF Industries slipped under its 200-day. Corteva and its seed spin-off Vylor led the week (+11.07% and +8.76%) on their new post-spin price series. Deere is the only pullback inside an intact trend; the fertilizer names are broken or under test.

Optical Supply Chain — Only 5 of 28 names rose on the week after Thursday's AI-hardware selloff. Aehr (−21.05%) and AXT (−20.27%) led down, and Applied Optoelectronics slipped under its 200-day. The long trends mostly held: Ciena rose 14.93% to sit 13.4% above its 200-day, Lumentum is 3.47% from its high on a +590.64% year, and 20 of 27 names with a 200-day are above it. The damage is in the small development-stage tail.

Turnaround Watch — 36 deep-drawdown names are turning up, against 31 on Thursday and 50 a week earlier. Constellation (+15.76% on the week) and Vistra (+15.33%) lead, followed by Wingstop, On and monday.com; all but two names on the list still carry a death cross. This is the pop in bottom → pop → flag → breakout. The flag has not formed for any of them.

7a. Campaign dispatches

AI spending: the supplier earnings reversal case — The counter-case got its first price test this week, not its disclosure test. OpenAI's smaller revenue figure (Financial Times, CNBC, October 8), Firmus Grid's expected IPO postponement (Bloomberg) and a Quinn Emanuel memo on data-center debt (Semafor) all point at financing, but no customer cut a capital-spending guide. CoreWeave is 11.3% under its 200-day while Nebius holds 28.9% above; the review falls at the hyperscaler reports at the end of October.

Drone defense: contracts become profitable deliveries — The drone small caps kept sliding: Red Cat sits at RSI 25.3 and 47.1% under its 200-day, and the REX Drone ETF watch was invalidated on October 7 below its $19.29 July low. Only Unusual Machines and Motorola Solutions remain above their 200-days. The dated test is AeroVironment's report, provider-estimated for December 2.

AI memory: pricing discipline through the supply ramp — Micron filed its fiscal 2026 annual report on Friday, one of the campaign's named early-review triggers; the stock is 46.6% above its 200-day on a +435.02% year after a −4.27% week. SK hynix's US shares fell 13.38%, and SemiAnalysis reported SK hynix saying 16-high HBM stacks are hard, with buyers choosing bandwidth over capacity. SK hynix (October 27) and SanDisk (October 29) are provider-estimated next.

AI optics: bandwidth becomes supplier earnings — Lumentum's CEO told Bloomberg its optical components are sold out through early 2029 (relayed on X), and the stock rose 5.22% Friday; Convequity laid out why that demand depends on co-packaged-optics design choices still open. The cohort finished 5 of 28 up on the week, Ciena +14.93% and Applied Optoelectronics under its 200-day. Fabrinet's report opens the two-report test; Coherent (November 4) and Lumentum (November 5) follow.

Energy shock to hardship: the Saudi phase of the Iran war — The war reached Riyadh's airport, where Houthi attacks killed a pilot (CNBC), while Hurricane Isaias shut almost three-quarters of Gulf oil output (Bloomberg) and tanker charters hit records (Semafor). The refiners carry it, with Valero at RSI 69.8 and 62.5% above its 200-day. The food link is still unproven: fertilizer names fell on Friday and Barchart flagged corn lower. The September CPI on October 14 is the dated test of food-at-home transmission.

Biotech funding: conversion into tools and CRO orders — The capital-cycle lane went 33 of 36 up Friday and biotech funding headlines kept coming (City Therapeutics and TrexBio IPOs, Endpoints News), but a price bid is not an order. Thermo Fisher sits 20.8% above its 200-day and Danaher 9.1%. Medpace, Danaher, Thermo Fisher and ICON are scheduled to report around October 21, the multi-supplier test.

AI power: rack and chip conversion — Monolithic Power's 30-day gain of 15.2% comes with year-over-year revenue growth of 48% in its latest fiscal quarter against 26% the quarter before, while Vertiv sits 9% under its 200-day after a −7.65% month. Only 5 of 19 backup-power makers rose on the week. Vicor (October 20) and Vertiv (October 21, provider date) are the first of the two reports the case names.

AI power: generation and grid equipment — Talen (+18.02%), Constellation (+15.76%) and Vistra (+15.33%) repaired their trends this week but remain down 14.83% to 23.1% on the year; GE Vernova holds 8.5% above its 200-day at $1,004.73. A new watch call on Constellation asks for a pullback that holds its 200-day before an entry. GE Vernova's October 28 report (provider estimate) is the order-conversion test.

Nuclear fuel: contracting reaches enrichment and supply — The fuel cycle did not share the plant owners' repair. The uranium fund fell 2.24% and sits 19% under its 200-day; Cameco rose 3.38% on the week but is 16.7% under its own, and Centrus is 28.1% under. The rotation map ranks nuclear fuel the month's weakest lane (relative strength −19.1). Cameco is scheduled to report October 30 (provider date).

Energy disruption: physical flows and exporter economics — Every upstream producer gained on the week, and ConocoPhillips and Devon moved into uptrends. Eric Nuttall now puts $80-plus WTI for 2027 on the table, and Frontier Map tallies Europe paying 8.6 times the US gas price in September. Cheniere (October 29) and ExxonMobil and Chevron (October 30) are the realized-price test.

Nearline storage: density and supplier discipline — Seagate is 18% above its 200-day on a +253.18% year after a −7.77% week; Western Digital closed 2.1% under its own after its watch was invalidated on October 8. Western Digital's report, expected October 22, opens the two-report test.

The momentum board holds 481 names, from 492 on October 2 and 467 on Thursday. Three groups carry the overbought list: security and data software (Okta, Fortinet, Datadog, Zscaler, Dynatrace, Nutanix, Palantir, GitLab), refiners (Marathon Petroleum, HF Sinclair, CVR Energy, Valero) and tankers (Frontline, DHT, International Seaways, Hafnia). Biotech supplies the most stretched single names: Moderna 209.8% above its 200-day and Kodiak at RSI 83.3, with Quiver Quantitative tying Kodiak's latest gain to its upcoming Phase 3 presentation.

7c. Deep Dive Spotlight

Generac ($GNRC) — "Generac Built the Base It Skipped and Cleared Its 200-Day as Its Engine Peers Slid." The stock is up 28.5% from its September 16 low, has held above a rising 200-day since October 2, and leads the 19-name data-center backup-power group on 30-day gain, after the Amazon supply agreement filed September 16 named an initial $2.4 billion of generator deliveries in 2027–28. The objection is mix: the growth is in commercial and industrial, which earned a 14.6% adjusted EBITDA margin in the June quarter against residential's 34.7% (non-GAAP), and officers sold again in October. The call: 🟡 wait for a pullback into $212–$219 that holds, then buy; stop $198, first target $296, medium conviction.

Bloom Energy ($BE) — "Bloom Energy's Run Rests on Filed Profits, and on One Buyer That Took 73% of Its Last Quarter." June-quarter revenue rose to $1.065 billion from $401 million and a GAAP operating loss turned into $182 million of operating income (SEC 10-Q), and the stock is up 223.72% on the year, 32% above its 200-day. The same filing says one buyer took 73% of that quarter's revenue, and Oracle's Project Jupiter, the largest named site, carries a force-majeure notice. The call: 🟡 wait for a retest of $256–$273 and buy a close that holds it; stop $240, first target $329, medium conviction; the report is scheduled for October 27.

Two industry reports ran alongside them. "AI Money Bought Running Power Plants and Sold the Build-Out" finds no disclosed spending cut behind the chip selling and puts the test at the late-October capex guides. "The Carriers Paid Friday for a Starlink Network Still Years Out" argues AST SpaceMobile lost something concrete and the carriers were charged for an end state SpaceX ties to a November 2027 spectrum close.

Key Signals

The volatility and breadth gauges eased

Two regime gauges changed state on Friday's close. The volatility gauge moved from neutral to compressed: the VIX closed at 14.84, and the VIX futures fund is 33% under its 200-day and 58.94% under its 52-week high. The broad-breadth gauge moved from deteriorating to mixed: 66.7% of the core index and sector funds sit above their 20-day averages, 40% above their 50-day, and the equal-weight fund's RSI is 50.8. Small caps have not joined, with the Russell 2000 fund at RSI 38.5 in a weak downtrend, 0.7% above its $277.06 200-day. The Nasdaq-100 fund ($751.27) and the VIX already meet their legs of the index confirmation. Compressed volatility also means no fear discount is on offer; it is a backdrop for holding trends, not a reason to buy.

Rates and credit: strained, not broken

The 10-year was 5.22% and the 2-year 4.75% on October 8 (FRED), a 0.44-point curve, with the 10-year real yield at 2.87% and effective fed funds at 3.88%. The 10-year was 5.31% on October 5, and the Fed's October 7 minutes showed all 19 officials behind September's hike (Bloomberg). The long-bond fund sits at RSI 34.8, 8.4% under its 200-day. The high-yield spread widened to 3.15% from 3.09%; the high-yield bond fund sits at RSI 31.4, 3.2% under its 200-day. Polymarket puts a 2026 recession at 7% and Kalshi an NBER-dated one at 4%. Bloomberg reported asset managers unwinding long-duration Treasury futures, MarketWatch laid out a path to a 6% 10-year without market upheaval, and CNBC called junk "flashing yellow." Against that, a week of HYG +0.42%, LQD +0.6% and IEF +0.4% is orderly. A spread at 3.50 or a VIX at 20 is where a rate story becomes a credit story.

Gold, copper and the dollar

Gold rose 1.57% and silver 2.49% on Friday, but the gold fund is still 7.5% under its 200-day and 24.55% off its high, and the gold-to-silver and miners-to-metal gauges both lean defensive. The dollar fund sits 0.21% under its high at RSI 69.9. Copper miners went 7 for 7 on Chinese demand signals (Bloomberg) while Chinese home prices hit a 20-year low (Barchart). Oil ended the week up 0.56% (Brent fund +1.41%) despite Hurricane Isaias, and Valero gave back 2.26% Friday. Brazil's fund was the week's breakout, +14.01% to RSI 76.2 after the first-round election result (CNBC, October 5); it sits 12.3% above its 20-day, one to let come back.

Insider buying

The insider-buying list did not change: Tesla, CRISPR, Asana, Intel and TSMC. Asana rose 16.82% on the week; Tesla is still under its 200-day. Eos Energy, at RSI 28.7, is the only stock in that universe under 30 and the lone case of insiders selling into a dip; there is still no oversold-plus-buying match. Friday's filing list carried Form 4s from Credo, Super Micro, 3M and Analog Devices.

Crypto

Crypto drained from the edges while stocks held near their highs. Bitcoin fell 2.55% on the week to $82,338.4, 14.6% above its 200-day on a −32.35% year; ether fell 7.15% to RSI 38. The miners broke: Marathon, Riot and CleanSpark fell 14.07% to 17.58% and closed under their 200-days. Friday's best crypto print, Polkadot +11.01%, followed the October 8 launch of its Tether-backed dollar stablecoin (CoinAlertNews), on a token down 70.34% over the year. The crypto lane closed 20 of 26 up Friday; read as a risk gauge, appetite is fading at the speculative end while bitcoin's long trend holds.

Regime transitions

The newest batch (October 9 against October 8, data as of October 9) carries 33 confirmed state changes and one new entry. On the focus list, Apple moved from uptrend to basing. By state pair: pullback to downtrend 6 ($ATRO, $AXGN, $BELFA, $BULL, $COIN, $RYTM); pullback to basing 6 ($BMY, $GM, $IMO, $OIH, $PYPL, $WRT1V.HE); uptrend to pullback 5 ($ADPT, $CNH, $GH, $LINK-USD, $ROK); basing to pullback 5 ($ALSN, $APD, $KN, $KRE, $SHLD), including the regional-bank fund ahead of Tuesday's bank reports; pullback to collapse 5 ($GHRS, $HIVE, $KEEL, $MARA, $MKSI); uptrend to basing 3 ($AAPL, $CALF, $MET). Improvements were few: Accenture to pullback, Aritzia from collapse to pullback, $BST to uptrend, and Novavax entering an uptrend. More names slipped than repaired. Across the tracked universe, 404 names sit in pullback, 242 in uptrend, 197 basing, 155 in downtrend and 212 in collapse.

The carrier repricing has a counter-argument

The case against Friday's verdict is in SpaceX's own filing, as laid out in the space report: the next-generation constellation is designed around EchoStar spectrum expected to close in November 2027, and full 5G performance would likely need new handset hardware. T-Mobile, SpaceX's US partner, fell hardest (13.27%), on the same day its October 8 releases announced a CFO transition and a 15% dividend increase; no source separates those. Friday's tape: T-Mobile, AT&T and Verizon traded 3.66 to 4.3 times normal volume, American Tower rose 9.3% on 2.97 times, and SpaceX ($SPCX) rose 1.25% to $162.57 through a lock-up release of up to 328.4 million shares. AT&T is down 15.02% on the year and T-Mobile 34.32%. A new pass on AST SpaceMobile holds until it reclaims its 50-day ($62.85). The FCC's October 29 vote is the next dated piece of evidence.

The Wild & Whacky

  • Partner, punished most. T-Mobile is SpaceX's US satellite partner and fell 13.27%, more than AT&T (10.82%) or Verizon (10.14%), on CNBC's "worst day since 2002" for Verizon.
  • A miss, a cut and a green close. Delta reported its first miss in two years and, per CNBC, cut its 2026 forecast on fuel (cbonds read the $5.10–$5.60 range as raised; the prior range is not on file). The stock closed up 0.04% on 1.49 times volume.
  • Demand and a 20-year low on the same afternoon. Copper miners went 7 for 7 on Chinese demand signals (Bloomberg) as Barchart posted Chinese home prices at their lowest in at least 20 years.
  • A $1.53 stock with a 5.39-times volume day. Quantum-Si rose 25.41% after reporting detection of 19 amino acids; StockAnalysis puts its trailing gross margin at 35.02% on minimal revenue.
  • Up 717.29% in a year. Moderna closed at its 52-week high on its Nasdaq-100 addition, 209.8% above its 200-day.
  • Eight cents. Rocket Lab's watch call died on a close of $68.21 against its $68.29 invalidation shelf.
  • Hurricane plus sanctions relief equals nothing. Isaias shut almost three-quarters of Gulf oil output and the US moved to let Russian diesel flow; the oil fund rose 0.56% on the week.
  • Thirty percent. JPMorgan data relayed on X: only 30% of S&P 500 members beat the index over three years, the lowest since 1991, in a week the index finished 0.39% from its high.

Paper Trade Report Card

Eleven paper books held sessions on Friday's close and none bought on the day. The exit pass checked 123 paper positions and sold one name: the wealth-advisor book's Bunge at $102.73 (−13.78%), closed inside three points of its stop with its death cross active. The rest of the 20 trim advisories were held under written rules. Two proposals park for Monday's noon fill: the same book's exit from Nutrien, whose research-written 200-day line broke three closes deep, and the swing book's buy of the cloud-computing fund SKYY on its range breakout. The quieter lesson sits in the screens: the capitulation boxes nominated Verizon, BCE and BioMarin, and every book that saw them passed, because no current research argues for owning a carrier the week a satellite competitor bought spectrum. On the season the aggressive book leads at +11.58% and the wealth-advisor book follows at +9.51%; the momentum book trails at −2.64%, flat for seventeen sessions behind a shut market gate.

What I'd Tell a Friend

The AI trade rotated instead of breaking, credit and volatility stayed calm, and the index still owes one confirmation. Friday's prices are not entries; these are the conditions worth setting.

  1. Cloud software (WCLD, $43.74): broke a nine-week range to a 52-week high with the whole web-cloud lane green Friday. At RSI 66.7 it is a chase; the entry is a pullback that holds the $43.54 pivot.
  2. Nebius ($221.07): above the $219.70 shelf, 28.9% above its 200-day on a +66.67% year. The condition is a hold of the shelf, then closes back above the 50-day ($224.42) and 20-day ($229.37). Below the shelf, the 200-day ($171.46) is the next line.
  3. Bloom Energy ($280.50): 2.7% above the $256–$273 zone. Buy a close that holds the zone; stop $240, with the report scheduled for October 27.
  4. Generac ($224.94): 9.3% over its 20-day after the breakout. Buy a pullback into $212–$219 that holds; stop $198, first target $296.
  5. Constellation ($298.07): a repaired trend on a −22.22% year. Wait for a pullback that holds the $286.14 200-day with RSI under 55, then a close above $300.40.

Not on the list: the carriers. Verizon at RSI 21.8 on a +2.01% year, 10.5% under its 200-day, is oversold without a trend; wait for a base.

Today: nothing to buy at Friday's close. The one thing to watch: two S&P 500 fund closes above $779.37 before Wednesday's CPI; without them, a high-yield spread at 3.50 is the line that would turn a rotation into a risk-off market.

A desk call is an authored stance from a published report; entry and invalidation conditions are human-read, and the full ledger lives at /calls.

30d vs SPY is the raw name-vs-SPY move since the call — for trim/sell calls a NEGATIVE number means the call worked (the name fell after it).

  • web Bloomberg — asset managers are dumping long-duration Treasury futures, a sign of forced selling $TLT · link
    • Bloomberg reports asset managers offloading long-duration Treasury futures, which it reads as forced deleveraging with cash yields just off multiyear highs. That puts a positioning unwind under this week's long-end selloff, worth separating from a repricing of inflation or deficits when judging whether the move has fu…
  • web Semafor — a large tanker from the US to Asia now costs up to $77M to hire, from under $10M last year $FRO $DHT $BWET · link
    • Semafor reports charter rates for large crude tankers at a record, up to $77 million for a US-to-Asia crude voyage against less than $10 million a year ago, as more crude moves through a Hormuz under attack. Freight is where the war's cost lands first for importers, and this is the hard number behind the tanker-owner…
  • 𝕏 Aakash Gupta (@aakashgupta) — Aakash Gupta — SpaceX's 800 MHz buy is the indoor layer satellites were missing $VZ $T $TMUS $SPCX · link
    • The low-band licenses SpaceX agreed to buy on October 8 are Sprint's old Nextel block, which T-Mobile was forced to sell after the Sprint merger. Gupta's point is the physics: a 2 GHz satellite signal stops at the first wall, 800 MHz gets indoors and most phones already support it, which is why the carriers repriced t…
  • 𝕏 SemiAnalysis (@SemiAnalysis_) — SemiAnalysis — rising H100 rents break the depreciation curve lenders underwrite, with $7T of debt coming $CRWV $NBIS · link
    • SemiAnalysis opened a group on how GPU clusters get financed, starting from an odd fact: H100 rental prices rose on a chip lenders model as losing value, and that depreciation curve sets how much a neocloud can borrow against its fleet. After the October 8 OpenAI revenue scare this is the credit-side view of the same…
  • 𝕏 Eric Nuttall (@ericnuttall) — Eric Nuttall — $80-plus WTI for 2027 is now on the table, with free-cash-flow yields up about half $XLE $XOP · link
    • Nuttall, a Canadian energy fund manager, has underwritten $70 WTI for 2027 as a floor rather than a forecast; he now puts $80-plus on the table if the status quo holds, worth roughly a 50% lift in producers' average free-cash-flow yields. A companion post the same morning ties it to IRGC strikes hitting about two ship…
  • 𝕏 Convequity (@convequity) — Convequity — Lumentum's laser demand rides on CPO design choices that are still open $LITE · link
    • The same week Lumentum's CEO told Bloomberg the company is effectively sold out to nearly 2029, Convequity laid out why it stayed out of the stock: its external lasers and MEMS optical switches win only in the co-packaged-optics and switching designs that keep them, while light sources moved onto the package, micro-LE…
  • web Semafor — Houthis strike Riyadh a second day as Iran steps up Hormuz attacks · link
    • Houthi missiles hit the Saudi capital for a second straight day while Iran stepped up its attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, so the war is now pressing on the Gulf's biggest exporter and its main shipping lane at the same time. This was one of two drivers behind Thursday's oil jump; the other was a hurricane th…
  • web Bloomberg — Firmus shelves its IPO, a warning for data-center listings · link
    • Bloomberg calls the expected postponement of Firmus Grid's Australian IPO an ominous sign for other AI-infrastructure listings after a run of weak debuts. Reuters, citing local media, had reported a possible price cut to A$8.25 from A$11, and Firmus is now weighing a private round. Outside financing is where the neocl…
  • 𝕏 Chris Camillo (@ChrisCamillo) — Chris Camillo — OpenAI's $70B vs $50B is gross vs net, not lost demand · link
    • The FT reported that OpenAI told investors its annualized revenue was near $50B at end-September. The widely cited ~$70B came from investors adding sales routed through cloud partners, to match how Anthropic books revenue. Camillo's gross-vs-net argument is the case to test against the October 8 AI-hardware selloff: t…
  • 𝕏 Zephyr (@zephyr_z9) — Zephyr on Shanu Mathew's math — lab revenue per gigawatt, and a $600B 2027 case · link
    • Mathew's back-of-envelope ties the labs' revenue to the power capacity they run on and sets it against a Goldman estimate of the AI revenue that 2026-27 hyperscaler capex needs to earn its return; Zephyr argues new hardware lifts revenue per gigawatt well above today's. Both posts went up hours before the FT report an…
  • 𝕏 Gaurab Chakrabarti (@Gaurab) — Gaurab Chakrabarti — the 1,120-day transformer wait runs through one US steel line $CLF · link
    • A chemical-plant builder traces the grid bottleneck to a single material: grain-oriented electrical steel. Only Cleveland-Cliffs makes it in the US, covering roughly 12-20% of US need by DOE's estimate, while step-up transformer lead times have grown from under 500 days to more than 1,120. China's Baosteel needed a de…
  • 𝕏 SemiAnalysis (@SemiAnalysis_) — SemiAnalysis — HBM de-specs to bandwidth; hybrid bonding goes from when to if $SKHY $BESIY · link
    • SK Hynix has now said publicly that 16-high HBM stacks are hard, and buyers are picking bandwidth over capacity. That removes the stack-height problem hybrid bonding was supposed to solve, and SemiAnalysis adds that Samsung's wafer-to-wafer process for its next DRAM node is about two years out and is a different tool…
  • reddit u/Prestigious-Bank2145 — r/investing summary of a Goldman Sachs derivatives note — the S&P 500 now trades as an AI basket, not a macro clearing price $SPY $IWM · link
    • The clearest framing of a record index on a narrow base, summarizing a Goldman derivatives-desk note that was not itself captured: the S&P 500 has decoupled from rates, oil and credit, so cheap index hedges no longer cover broad-market risk, and light exposure plus heavy Russell shorts set up a sharp move when it reco…
  • web Bain & Company — sustaining today's AI capex would take an AI market near $6 trillion a year · link
    • A named consultancy puts a revenue bar under the buildout: Bain concludes today's investment pace needs an AI market approaching $6 trillion a year, with the report's title saying new financing innovation is required. That revenue-versus-spend gap is the core of the AI-spending reversal case.
  • web Applied Digital (press release) — Applied Digital — up to 1 GW of potential power capacity in Finland, its first international development $APLD · link
    • The issuer's own release on a neocloud-lane catalyst: an agreement for potential capacity for an AI factory campus, Applied Digital's first international expansion. Read the qualifiers ('up to', 'potential') before the headline number; the company is scheduled to report after the close on October 7, the first chance t…
  • web MarketWatch — Google's new Constellation nuclear deal equals the output of a new reactor $CEG $GOOGL · link
    • The source story for Constellation's Tuesday jump: MarketWatch says the Google agreement equals a new reactor's output, and Bloomberg's closing-bell headline had the stock up 12% on it. Long-dated hyperscaler offtake for new capacity is the contracting signal the AI power and nuclear fuel theses watch for.
  • 𝕏 Winston, Frontier Map (@ChurchillWw) — Frontier Map — Europe paid 8.6 times the US gas price in September as Hormuz cut Qatar's LNG exports $LNG · link
    • A sourced, region-by-region account of the gas spread: with Hormuz holding Qatar's LNG exports 82% below a year earlier and US exports up 20% from March to July, Europe paid 8.6 times the US price in September (World Bank, Energy Institute, Bruegel, JODI and EIA data). That spread is the exporter-economics leg of the…
