Healthcare Scan
Healthcare Scan
Data as-of 2026-07-10 close.
VRTX and MRNA — last scan's two most extreme names in the entire cross-scan dataset (RSI 82, both "new extremes") — both round-tripped hard, VRTX down 8.3% and MRNA down 16.5% in price, with RSI back to the low-to-mid 50s. No name in the healthcare universe is below RSI 40 or above RSI 67 right now; the whole board compressed into a tight neutral band. This cut reads from the broader healthcare.json universe (21 names) rather than the narrower curated healthcare-scan.json list used last cycle, so ZTS, HROW, and GH appear here for the first time in a few scans while GRDN and IQV are not in this cut — treat cross-cycle comparisons for those specific names with that caveat. AMGN remains the steadiest large-cap accumulate, effectively unchanged for a third straight scan.
Source: healthcare.json (broader universe; healthcare-scan.json is the narrower curated cut used in the prior report — see note above). Latest bar 2026-07-10. Prior scan: 2026-07-07-healthcare-scan.
Quick Snapshot
| Signal | Reading |
|---|---|
| Overall | 🟡 Sector-wide cooldown — VRTX and MRNA both dropped from RSI 82 (the two most extreme names in the whole cross-scan dataset last cycle) to the low-to-mid 50s |
| Leaders | VEEV (RSI 66.1, +17.7% 30D, still the sector's clearest continued reversal); TMO (RSI 64.7, steady +10.9% 30D); GH (RSI 63.4, cooled hard from RSI 77.7 while still up +94.7% 3M) |
| Laggards | PFE (RSI 41.5, still unresolved, -10.2% 3M); ZTS (RSI 42.2, -36.8% 3M, -52.9% from ATH — the sector's most structurally broken name, back in this cut); ISRG (RSI 45.0, recovery stalled and reversed) |
| Key insight | The managed-care/large-pharma cooldown flagged last scan kept going, and VRTX/MRNA — the two names that replaced them as "most extreme" — cooled just as hard. Nothing in this sector is currently extended; nothing is deeply oversold either. |
What's Going On
Last scan's headline was that VRTX and MRNA had become the sector's (and the whole cross-scan dataset's) two most extreme names, both RSI 82. That's over — both are back to the low-to-mid 50s after real price pullbacks (VRTX -8.3%, MRNA -16.5%). VEEV is the one name that kept its reversal going, up another chunk in RSI and 30-day performance after being flagged "the scan's clearest reversal" last cycle — still weak-up DC, hasn't confirmed a trend flip, but the price action keeps validating the turn.
This report reads from the broader healthcare.json universe rather than the narrower curated healthcare-scan.json list used in the prior report, so the ticker set shifted: ZTS, HROW, and GH are in this cut (ZTS was flagged last cycle as a name to "track separately even if it's off this specific scan's ticker list" given its -53% collapse thesis — it's back, still deeply broken at RSI 42.2 and -52.9% from its 52-week high). GRDN and IQV, which were in last cycle's curated list, aren't in this universe cut. Treat any single-name comparison across that boundary with that caveat in mind. PFE remains the one genuinely weak large-cap, still unresolved after multiple scans. AMGN is again the cleanest, quietest accumulate name in the sector.
What Changed Since Prior Scan (2026-07-07)
- VRTX and MRNA both round-tripped from the sector's most extreme readings. VRTX: RSI 81.6→53.1, price $529.59→$485.39 (-8.3%). MRNA: RSI 81.9→54.8, price $81.80→$68.27 (-16.5%), still +76.7% vs VWAP (down from +114.7%). Both were flagged "don't chase" last scan — validated.
- VEEV kept its reversal going. RSI 69.4→66.1 (still elevated, marginally cooler), price $192.01→$190.12 (roughly flat), but 30D gain is now +17.7%, continuing the turn flagged last scan. Still
weak-up DC— no confirmed trend flip yet. - ISRG's recovery stalled and reversed. RSI 59.9→45.0, price $432.83→$406.78 (-6.0%) — the multi-scan climb off a broken low gave back ground this cycle, consistent with the same reversal seen in the biotech-scan cut of this name.
- JNJ, MRK, BIIB all continued cooling from their prior extension, now RSI 47-60, mostly flat to slightly down in price — same "resting, not correcting" pattern flagged two scans ago, still playing out.
- UNH, CVS, DXCM, MDT, TMO are all essentially unchanged, still holding their prior gains without adding much — steady, not a fresh signal either way.
- GH cooled hard. RSI 77.7→63.4, price $168.82→$160.05 (-5.2%), still +73.0% vs VWAP and +94.7% 3M — extended but no longer parabolic.
- Universe composition shifted. This cut reads
healthcare.json(21 tickers, includes ZTS/HROW/GH) rather thanhealthcare-scan.json(19 tickers, includes GRDN/IQV) — see the note above before drawing hard conclusions on names that moved between lists.
How To Read The Board
RSI measures how stretched a stock is over the past 14 sessions — under 30 is oversold, over 70 is overbought/extended. vs SMA20 is the price gap to the 20-day average. vs VWAP is the premium over the average price paid by current holders — a useful gut check on how much of a move is unrealized gain that could get sold into weakness. Trend combines direction/strength with a cross signal: GC (golden cross) is structurally healthier than DC (death cross). A stock recovering off a low RSI while still marked strong-down DC, like ISRG here, means the price move hasn't yet been confirmed by the underlying trend — treat it as "watch," not "buy."

Tier Analysis
Extreme Oversold (RSI < 25)
None.
Oversold (RSI 25-40)
None. Every name in this cut is RSI 40+ — the lowest print is PFE at 41.5.
RSI 40+ (everyone else)
- Weak / unresolved (RSI 41-47): PFE, ZTS, ISRG, BIIB. ZTS is the standout for how broken it is (-52.9% from ATH,
strong-down DC) — this is the collapse thesis flagged last cycle, confirmed still live. ISRG's stalled recovery is the other notable name here. - Basing / cleanest accumulate (RSI 51-59, cooled from prior extension): GILD, MRK, VRTX, MRNA, HROW, ABT, LLY, AMGN, SYK. AMGN remains the standout — never got extended, barely moves, three scans running. VRTX and MRNA are here now instead of the "parabolic" tier.
- Continuing / steady (RSI 59-65): UNH, JNJ, DXCM, MDT, CVS, GH, TMO. All holding gains without adding fresh momentum; GH is the one real mover, cooling hard from a parabolic read.
- Most extended survivor (RSI 66): VEEV. The sector's one name still building on its reversal, though trend hasn't confirmed with a golden cross yet.
Entry Zones
| Stock | Price | Zone | RSI | 30D% | Setup |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| AMGN | $363.39 | <$350 (SMA20 retest) | 58.6 | +2.6% | Best large-cap risk/reward in the scan for a third scan running; never got extended |
| GILD | $129.83 | <$127 (SMA20 support) | 50.9 | +3.8% | Basing, GC intact, +3.4% vs VWAP |
| TMO | $527.05 | <$495 (SMA20) | 64.7 | +10.9% | Steady, +3.2% vs VWAP, thesis intact |
| PFE | $24.17 | <$23.60 | 41.5 | -7.6% | Still the sector's weakest large-cap; GC intact but no bounce yet — contrarian probe only |
| VEEV | $190.12 | Watch for DC→GC flip | 66.1 | +17.7% | Genuine reversal continuing but trend hasn't confirmed — don't chase |
Action Matrix
| Action | Stocks | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 📈 ACCUMULATE | AMGN, GILD, TMO | Best risk/reward — not extended, cleanest technical setups three scans running |
| 🔒 HOLD | VRTX, MRNA, MRK, HROW, ABT, LLY, UNH, JNJ, DXCM, MDT, CVS, GH | All cooled from prior extension without breaking down; don't add at current premiums |
| 🔍 WATCH | PFE, BIIB, SYK, VEEV | PFE remains the lone unresolved weak name; VEEV is the sector's real turnaround, still unconfirmed |
| ❌ BROKEN / AVOID | ZTS, ISRG | ZTS: `strong-down DC`, -52.9% from ATH, collapse thesis confirmed still live. ISRG: recovery stalled and reversed this cycle |
What To Watch Next
- VRTX and MRNA both round-tripped from RSI 82 to the mid-50s in one scan — is there a real catalyst that stabilizes either name here, or does mean-reversion keep going?
- ZTS is back in this cut still deeply broken (-52.9% from ATH) — is the collapse thesis still live for the book, and should it get tracked as its own name regardless of which watchlist file surfaces it?
- VEEV: does the reversal confirm with a golden cross next scan, or was this another single-cycle bounce in a still-unconfirmed name?
- ISRG's recovery reversed after multiple scans of progress in both the healthcare and biotech cuts — worth checking whether this is a name-specific issue or a read-through from the broader medtech/robotics group.
