1. The Read
Monday, October 5 closed with the Nasdaq-100 at a fresh peak (Bloomberg) and the S&P 500 fund 0.58% under its high. Megacap technology and biotech carried the day, while the neocloud operators that rent out AI compute were the weakest lane on the board and long-dated Treasury yields sat at multi-decade highs.
Last week
The week to Friday, October 2 split the market along the rate line. At Friday's settled close the S&P 500 fund was down 0.22% on the week, the semiconductor fund up 3.96% and the equal-weight fund down 0.65%. A 29,000-job September took an October hike largely off the table (CNBC), yet yields rose into the close. The 10-year had touched a 24-year high on October 1 (CNBC), and every bond and credit fund closed in capitulation. The AI hardware build-out ran as a block: chip equipment closed 13 for 13 green for a second straight Friday, optics 25 of 28 and security 11 for 11. Micron's record quarter and $61.5 billion guide (Micron, September 30) did not produce a breakout. Seagate and Western Digital each fell about 10% Friday on a Toshiba supply worry (MarketWatch). Defense primes and consumer staples sat oversold under their 200-day averages.
This week
Monday's index gain rested on a narrow base, and rates stayed above the line. The S&P 500 fund rose 0.67% to $774.83 and the Nasdaq-100 fund 0.88% to $756.20. Breadth was positive, with 740 of 1,219 tracked names up. But the equal-weight fund, up 0.66% to $211.12, is still under its 20-day average ($212.08), and only a third of the broad-market funds sit above their 50-day lines. A confirmed advance needs two closes above $779.37 on the S&P 500 fund. The Nasdaq-100 fund (above $748.65) and the VIX (under 16) already meet their legs. The 10-year was 5.28% on October 2 (FRED); it first held 5% for two sessions on September 15–16. The euro fell to a 17-month low on political strain in Spain and France (CNBC). The long-bond fund closed at RSI 22.1 and the dollar fund at 75.2. Credit has not followed: the high-yield spread was 3.10% on October 2, under its 3.50 stress line, and the VIX closed at 15.52. This is a rate repricing, not a credit event.
Crude fell; energy shares rose. The oil funds lost 2.29% (USO) and 2.61% (BNO). Hormuz traffic rebounded alongside the G7 stock release (Semafor), and Saudi Arabia cut prices for Asian buyers as exports recover (Bloomberg). The risk side is still live. Iran reiterated that the strait remains closed as a Saudi-backed Yemeni force attacked the Houthis (Semafor, October 4), and B-1 bombers moved out of England have been used in strikes on Iran (CNBC). Oil services rose 3.14% and refiners sit near their highs. APA, Devon, Gran Tierra and Delek flipped from pullback to uptrend. The oil fund is still up 97.6% on the year.
The neocloud lane sold on a record day. Neoclouds closed at a −2.1% median with two of ten up. Sort it by the long window. Nebius fell 4.22% to $232.57 but is 38% above its 200-day on a +86.15% year: a deep pullback in an intact trend, with the $219.70 shelf beneath. CoreWeave fell 2.49% to $87.39 and is 5.4% under its 200-day on a −34.71% year. Tonight's deep dive, "CoreWeave's Interest Bill Now Takes a Quarter of Its Revenue," says wait for a held close above the 200-day (about $92.37) and stand aside below $85.64. Cerebras rose 9.08% after Sam Altman called it a "close partner" (CNBC). For the other members, news pulled October 5 carries nothing dated to the move and the events calendar is empty for the date, so the cause is unknown. The cost of AI money is the backdrop: JPMorgan is pitching about 11% on Volta's $5 billion AI loan (Bloomberg). Suppliers paused too. DRAM went 0 for 4, chip IP licensors 1 for 7 and contract manufacturers 3 for 7, all still leading on the month. Applied Digital's report after Wednesday's close (provider estimate) is the lane's next dated test.
The calls. NVIDIA closed at $238.90 on 1.15 times normal volume. That is through the $236.54 pivot and inside the $237–$245 band its September 28 deep dive buys, with a $220 stop; a retest that holds the pivot is the confirmation. Microsoft closed at $525.18, over its $522.85 base pivot on 1.24 times volume. TSMC sits at $485.80, above its $461.47 pivot, ahead of its October 15 report. Cadence crossed its $352.55 line on 0.70 times volume at RSI 71.5, a thin cross. The watch calls on gold, the gold miners and the silver miners were invalidated together: gold is 8.8% under its 200-day and the miners are lagging the metal.
What the news adds. The biotech capital-cycle lane went 32 of 37 up. Vaxcyte rose 30.93% on 9.98 times volume after its VAX-31 vaccine met its Phase 3 goals (Endpoints). Recursion rose 16.0% on a Tempus AI deal extended to 2029 (StocksToTrade). PacBio rose 13.0% after two diagnostics firms said they would build on its HiFi sequencing data (StockStory). Ginkgo's 21.3% gain is cause unknown: its October 5 news pull holds quote pages only and no event is dated to it. Tools and research-services names rose with them (Charles River +7.09%, Thermo Fisher +3.35%) with no booking news. A price bid is not the order evidence the biotech-funding case asks for. Brazil's fund rose 12.54% on 7.06 times volume after the first round left Bolsonaro the favorite against Lula in the October 25 runoff (CNBC). Cenovus agreed to buy Athabasca Oil for $12 a share in cash or stock (Cenovus release), and Athabasca closed at $12.01 in Toronto. Bloomberg's closing segment was titled "PTC Rises on Schneider Electric's $23.7 Billion Takeover Deal." No company release is on file, so the terms are reported, not confirmed. Schneider fell 9.97% in Paris.
Watch this week: Applied Digital reports after Wednesday's close and PepsiCo before Thursday's open. Delta reports before the open on October 9 (provider estimate), the same day as a SpaceX lock-up release. The levels: $779.37 on the S&P 500 fund for two closes; the equal-weight fund's $212.08 20-day and $205.84 200-day; NVIDIA holding $236.54; Nebius's $219.70 shelf and CoreWeave's $85.64; gold's $416.07 200-day. A high-yield spread at 3.50 or a VIX at 20 would turn the rate story into a credit story. After that come the September CPI on October 14 and TSMC on October 15.

3. Three Things
- Megacaps carried the Nasdaq-100 to a fresh peak (Bloomberg) on a narrow base: the equal-weight fund is still under its 20-day average, only a third of broad-market funds sit above their 50-day lines, and the 10-year was 5.28% on October 2 (FRED).
- The compute landlords were the weakest lane on the board: neoclouds closed at a −2.1% median with two of ten up; Nebius's long trend is intact, CoreWeave's is broken, and Applied Digital reports Wednesday.
- Event money went to biotech and Brazil: the biotech capital-cycle lane went 32 of 37 up, Vaxcyte rose 30.93% on a Phase 3 win (Endpoints), and the Brazil fund rose 12.54% after the first-round vote (CNBC).
4. The Big Picture — A Record on a Narrow Base
The index made its high on a handful of platforms while bonds, the average stock and the AI operators that borrow to build did not follow.
Act 1 — The rate line holds, the dollar firms, gold breaks
The 10-year was 5.28% on October 2 (FRED), the 2-year 4.83% and the real yield 2.92% against its 3.00% line. The long-bond fund closed at RSI 22.1, 9.7% under its 200-day on a −13.03% year. The investment-grade fund sits at 22.7 and high yield at 20.3. The high-yield spread (3.10% on October 2) is still under 3.50, so credit is repricing with duration and not breaking. The dollar fund closed 0.24% under its high at RSI 75.2 as the euro hit a 17-month low on Spanish and French political strain (CNBC). Gold steadied as the dollar firmed (Bloomberg) but sits 8.8% under its 200-day. Over 30 days the miners fund fell 11.93% against 6.69% for bullion. The regional-bank fund closed 0.3% under its 200-day ($70.61) and financials 0.3% above theirs ($53.71). Semafor reported the Fed reviewing how Morgan Stanley, Barclays and other banks value private-credit loans.
Act 2 — Megacaps up, AI landlords down, suppliers rest
The Magnificent Seven lane rose at a +1.4% median with 75% of names up, and the technology fund closed at RSI 70.2, 0.23% under its high. NVIDIA gained 2.12%, Microsoft 1.48% and TSMC 2.75%. The buyers and builders of AI capacity went the other way. Neoclouds fell at a −2.1% median. The optical lane slipped 0.8% at the median with 32% up, after a seven-day median of +10.6%. Chip equipment eased 0.7% with 23% up, after +10.8%. Intel fell 2.63% after Elon Musk said talks with TSMC on his Terafab chip project are ongoing (MarketWatch).
Act 3 — Event money: biotech, Brazil, deals and oil
Biotech had the broadest bid on the board, from Vaxcyte's Phase 3 result (Endpoints) to tools and research-services names with no dated cause. Brazil's fund broke out of a 23-week base on the first-round result (CNBC). Cenovus signed a definitive deal for Athabasca at $12. PTC (Bloomberg headline, terms reported) and Option Care (a relayed report of advanced talks, nothing formally agreed) are unconfirmed. Crude fell on Hormuz traffic and Saudi price cuts (Semafor; Bloomberg) while oil services, refiners and four energy names moved into uptrend.
5. Focus List
As of 2026-10-05 settled close.
NVIDIA closed at $238.90, up 2.12% on 1.15 times normal volume and 0.5% under its 52-week high. That puts it through the $236.54 pivot and inside the $237–$245 band its September 28 deep dive buys, with a $220 stop. It is 18.8% above its 200-day on a +28.76% year, so the long trend is intact. Options traders see a $6 trillion market value by month-end (CNBC), and Polymarket puts 85% on NVIDIA being the largest company at year-end, up 9 points on the week. Those are crowd prices, not evidence. A lawsuit over the $20 billion Groq deal alleges Groq stockholders were shortchanged (CNBC).
Microsoft closed at $525.18 on 1.24 times volume, over the $522.85 pivot of an 8.8-week base, at RSI 66.2 and 21.3% above its 200-day. The one-year return is −0.64%, so this is a breakout from a base in a trend that has not paid for a year. A week of closes above the pivot is the test; its report is scheduled for October 27.
Micron fell 1.02% to $1,063.89, still under the $1,108.72 pivot set after its September 30 report and 55.1% above its 200-day. Sandisk fell 0.92% to sit on its 20-day, 47.8% above its 200-day on a +1,306.42% year. News pulled October 5 for Micron holds nothing on the move.
Argenx moved from uptrend to pullback at RSI 34.5, 7.2% above its 200-day on a +15.86% year, with a support shelf at $858.74. Of the focus names, it is the one pulling back inside an intact trend.
The quantum names stay the broken corner. Rigetti, D-Wave and Quantum Computing Inc. are 13% to 25% under their 200-day averages on years of −55% to −64%. Xanadu closed at RSI 18.6, 62.2% under its 200-day after a −53.5% month. These are speculative businesses; no setup exists until a base forms.
6. Sector Scorecard
Neoclouds — −2.1% median, 2 of 10 up, lagging on the month. The weakest lane on a Nasdaq record day. Two intact trends (Nebius, Hut 8) and eight names under their 200-days. Semiconductor IP licensors — −1.5%, 1 of 7 up, leading on the month. A pause after a +8.2% seven-day median. News pulled October 5 for Credo and Arm holds nothing on the move. DRAM memory — −1.3%, 0 of 4 up, leading. Micron eased under its pivot. Infineon's US-traded shares saw 5.89 times normal volume on a small drop; news was not pulled for that move. Contract electronics — −1.1%, 3 of 7 up, leading. Fabrinet and Sanmina were the soft spots; the month's leadership is intact. Airlines — −1.0%, 0 of 6 up, lagging. They fell on a day crude dropped, so fuel does not explain it. Delta's October 5 news holds only earnings previews; cause unknown. Delta reports October 9. Travel and leisure — −0.9%, 1 of 9 up. Booking sits at RSI 29.8 under its 200-day. AI power — −0.8%, 17 of 54 up. A split lane: Vistra, Constellation and Talen rose, but all three remain under their 200-days on negative years. Space — −0.8%, 4 of 11 up. SpaceX rose to its highest since June (CNBC) while Redwire and Firefly fell. Nearline storage — +4.5%, 3 of 3 up. Seagate and Western Digital rebounded after Friday's Toshiba scare. News pulled October 5 holds nothing on the bounce; cause unknown. Biotech capital cycle — +3.6%, 32 of 37 up, leading. The broadest bid on the board: genomics leaders plus tools and research-services names. GLP-1 manufacturing — +3.2%, 6 of 7 up. Waters, Danaher, Thermo Fisher and West Pharmaceutical led. China tech — +2.6%, 8 of 8 up. A one-day bounce in broken trends; KWEB and PDD still slipped from basing to downtrend. News was not pulled for this move; cause unknown. ARK funds — +2.0%, 6 of 6 up. The genomics fund led and sits far above its 200-day. Healthcare — +1.7%, 17 of 24 up, while the month still ranks it lagging. Moderna, Intuitive Surgical and Stryker led. Pharma lagged: Bristol Myers fell after a Leerink downgrade on pipeline doubts (Endpoints), and Merck fell too. Cybersecurity — +1.5%, 10 of 11 up, leading. Okta, CrowdStrike and Palo Alto all sit within 0.7% of their highs. LNG chain — +1.4%, 5 of 5 up. All of it sits under the 200-day except Fluor; a bounce, not a trend.

7. Market Vibe
A record on a narrow base. The Nasdaq-100 fund closed 0.1% under its 52-week high while the Dow fund sits 6.34% under its own. Over 30 days the Dow fund is down 4.11% against +5.18% for the Nasdaq-100 fund. MarketWatch calls the two-month gap a rare divergence that raises the odds of a large move in either direction. The Momentum Board grew to 498 names from Friday's 492, its parabolic tier to 49 from 45. Uptrends rose to 245 from 240 and collapses fell to 183 from 201. Money is concentrating, not leaving.
What doesn't fit: a calm VIX (15.52) next to credit funds at RSI 20–23. China tech went 8 for 8 green, yet two of its funds slid into downtrend on the trend classifier. Airlines fell on a day crude dropped, while refiners sat near highs as crude fell.
The AI trade split three ways on Monday. The platforms rose. The suppliers rested after their strongest week. The operators that finance capacity with debt and stock sold. The financing headlines all point one way: JPMorgan pitching about 11% on a $5 billion AI loan (Bloomberg), the Fed reviewing banks' private-credit marks (Semafor), and tonight's CoreWeave deep dive putting net interest at about a quarter of its revenue.

Expanded dispatches
Biotech. The capital-cycle lane went 32 of 37 up at a +3.6% median, the broadest move on the board. The leaders have receipts: Vaxcyte (Phase 3, Endpoints), Recursion (Tempus extension, StocksToTrade) and PacBio (a partner building on its HiFi data, StockStory). Ginkgo, the biggest mover, does not. The research-services and tools names also rose: Charles River +7.09%, ICON +3.88%, Medpace +3.51%, IQVIA +3.05%. Thermo Fisher's and IQVIA's October 5 news holds nothing on the move, and Charles River's news was not refreshed. PacBio at RSI 89.3 and Ginkgo at 82.1 are loss-making small caps at extreme readings: momentum, not trend-hold candidates.
Macro & Commodities. The dollar fund is 0.24% under its high at RSI 75.2. Gold sits 8.8% under its 200-day, and the miners are lagging the metal on the 30-day gauge. Crude fell on rebounding Hormuz traffic (Semafor) and Saudi price cuts to Asia (Bloomberg). Brazil's fund rose 12.54% on 7.06 times volume, and copper firmed with the tech rally (Bloomberg). The pattern is a strong dollar and real yields beating war risk, with oil still the one war asset in an uptrend.
Optical Supply Chain and Semiconductor Equipment. The optical lane eased 0.8% at the median with 32% of 28 up, and chip equipment eased 0.7% with 23% of 13 up. That followed seven-day medians of +10.6% and +10.8%. Lumentum sits 2.91% under its high at RSI 67.1; its flag entry wants RSI under 60 while it holds the 20-day ($952.25 Monday). Axcelis fell 3.69%. This is a rest inside intact long trends, not a reversal.
Turnaround Watch. Fifty-one names are broken on the long window and turning up on the short one. New since Friday: Intellia, Sumitomo, SolarEdge, Advanced Energy, Roblox, Rocket Lab, plus the sub-$5 BTQ and Standard BioTools. CoreWeave dropped off. The turn is leg two of bottom, pop, flag, breakout; none of these is an entry until a flag holds. The two sub-$5 names fail on business quality.

Perspective dispatches
AI optics: bandwidth becomes supplier earnings. The optical lane rested Monday after a +10.6% seven-day median, and Lumentum sits 2.91% under its high. No issuer update landed. Fabrinet's report around November 2 (provider estimate) opens the two-report test.
AI memory: pricing discipline through the supply ramp. DRAM went 0 for 4 and Micron eased to $1,063.89, under its $1,108.72 pivot. The next evidence is SK hynix (October 27) and Sandisk (October 29), both provider estimates.
Nearline storage: density and supplier discipline. Seagate rose 4.49% and Western Digital 6.34% after Friday's 10% drops on a Toshiba supply worry (MarketWatch). Western Digital is back 10% above its 200-day ($401.36). Competitor supply is still feared, not verified. The review falls due Tuesday.
AI power: generation and grid equipment. The AI-power lane fell 0.8% at the median with 17 of 54 up. Vistra rose 3.48% on 2.07 times volume the day it filed an 8-K whose contents are not yet reviewed. Constellation and Talen also rose, all three under their 200-days. GE Vernova was flat. The review falls due Tuesday on GE Vernova's third-quarter release.
AI power: rack and chip conversion. Power semiconductors rose 0.3% at the median with 58% up, and Monolithic Power gained 2.79%. No design win or design-out landed. The review falls due Tuesday.
Energy shock to hardship: the Saudi phase of the Iran war. Crude fell as Hormuz traffic rebounded with the G7 stock release (Semafor). Iran still says the strait is closed (Semafor, October 4), and US bombers struck Iran from UK bases (CNBC). Refiners sit near highs. The September CPI on October 14 is the food-link test.
Energy disruption: physical flows and exporter economics. Saudi Arabia cut prices to Asian buyers as Middle Eastern exports recover (Bloomberg). That is press evidence of recovering flows, not an official notice. Exxon and Chevron were flat, and four energy names moved into uptrend. The review falls due Tuesday.
AI spending: the supplier earnings reversal case. The financing channel tightened in the headlines: an 11% pitch on Volta's $5 billion AI loan (Bloomberg) and a Fed review of bank private-credit marks (Semafor). The order channel did not turn. The Kobeissi Letter relays a record $420.1 billion in Q2 business spending on computers and peripherals. No guide-down is on file; review October 30.
Drone defense: contracts become profitable deliveries. Drone and defense went 39% up, and Northrop slid from downtrend to collapse. No funded award moved the group.
Nuclear fuel: contracting reaches enrichment and supply. The lane rose 0.7% at the median with 74% up, against a −13.8% 30-day median. Centrus gained 1.56%. No contract or award landed; the review falls due Tuesday.
Biotech funding: conversion into tools and CRO orders. The tools and research-services names rose broadly, Charles River +7.09%. Price is not bookings, and the case requires order evidence from more than one supplier. The review falls due Tuesday.

Refiners (CVR Energy, Marathon, HF Sinclair, Valero) and chips (AMD, Cohu, Marvell, Semtech, MaxLinear) fill out the rest. The tanker freight fund stays the outlier at 311.2% above its 200-day. The board is a ranking, not an entry list; every name above wants a flag.
Deep Dive Spotlight
CoreWeave — "CoreWeave's Interest Bill Now Takes a Quarter of Its Revenue." Tonight's deep dive: demand held, and second-quarter revenue doubled to $2.58 billion. But net interest expense reached $640 million, a quarter of revenue, and the company keeps selling stock and convertibles into a market that charges more for both. Nebius funded a similar build with prepayments and ended June with cash close to its debt. The call is 🟡 wait for a held close above the 200-day, with $85.64 as the line that ends the watch.
RoboStrategy — "RoboStrategy Swings on Its Premium, Not Its Robots." Tonight's deep dive: the Nasdaq-listed closed-end fund holds 16 private robotics stakes. It struck NAV at $11.35 on August 31 while the stock closed at $31.81 Monday, and a $2 billion equity facility sells into every rally. The call is 🔴 stand aside, a veto on structure, not on drawdown.

Rates without a credit break
The 10-year was 5.28% and the 2-year 4.83% on October 2 (FRED). The curve is +0.47 points (October 5), and effective fed funds is 3.88%. Bloomberg had longer-dated yields at multi-decade highs Monday. CNBC framed 5% yields as a debt-spiral fear, "not a fiscal apocalypse — yet," and Goldman's Anthony Gutman called for spending cuts (CNBC). The conflict: the high-yield spread (3.10%), the VIX (15.52) and Chicago Fed financial conditions (−0.55, September 25) all say repricing, not stress. A high-yield spread at 3.50 or a VIX at 20 would change that.
The gold complex broke together
Two market gauges changed state Monday. Volatility compressed: the VIX sits under 16, and the short-term VIX futures fund is 58.34% under its 52-week high. Gold miners moved to lagging the metal: down 11.93% over 30 days against 6.69% for bullion. The watch calls on gold, the gold miners and the silver miners were invalidated on the same close. Gold is 8.8% under its 200-day ($416.07), the miners 4% under theirs ($91.10) and silver 16.3%. The dollar fund is at RSI 75.2. A gold close back above its 200-day is the first condition for any metals entry.
Neoclouds first, suppliers next
Neoclouds fell at a −2.1% median with two of ten up. On the long window, Nebius (+86.15% year, 38% above its 200-day) and Hut 8 (+115.52%, 10.9% above) are intact. CoreWeave (−34.71%, 5.4% under), IREN (−29.9%, 11.2% under) and Applied Digital (−10.86%, 23.1% under) are broken. Cipher, Core Scientific, Galaxy and TeraWulf are all under their 200-days. Cerebras's 9.08% gain is sourced (Altman's "close partner" remark, CNBC). For the others, news pulled October 5 carries nothing dated to the moves, and no company event is on the calendar for the date. Three Nebius insider Form 4s and a TeraWulf 8-K landed Monday and have not been reviewed. The supplier read-through is a pause, not a break: DRAM 0 for 4 and the IP licensors 1 for 7, both still leading on the month. The next test is Applied Digital after Wednesday's close (provider estimate).
Pivots cleared on the leaders, thin elsewhere
NVIDIA ($238.90, through $236.54 on 1.15 times volume) and Microsoft ($525.18, over $522.85 on 1.24 times volume) cleared their pivots with above-average volume. TSMC holds above $461.47 at RSI 75.6, ahead of October 15. Cadence closed at $353.48, over its $352.55 line, but on 0.70 times volume at RSI 71.5. It also skipped the pullback-and-hold its watch call asked for first, and its latest quarter shows inventory up 73% against revenue up 24%. Cadence reports results October 26 (Business Wire), and Rapidus named it one of 17 design partners for its 2nm program on Monday (Rapidus). Accenture slipped back to $195.05, under its $197.63 line and its 200-day. The regional-bank fund closed under its 200-day, invalidating its watch call. Axon sits 17% under its 200-day on a −42.93% year: broken.
Regime Transitions
Monday's classifier recorded 36 confirmed state flips against Friday. APA, Devon, Gran Tierra and Delek moved from pullback to uptrend, and Synopsys did the same. Argenx, a focus name, moved from uptrend to pullback. Northrop went from downtrend to collapse and Lockheed from basing to pullback. KWEB and PDD went from basing to downtrend on up days. Across the universe: 245 uptrends (240 Friday), 433 pullbacks (450), 176 basing (175), 160 downtrends (136) and 183 collapses (201).
Deals: one definitive, two reported
Cenovus signed a definitive agreement for Athabasca Oil at $12 a share, in cash or 0.264 Cenovus shares, with closing expected in December (Cenovus and Athabasca releases). Athabasca closed at $12.01 and Cenovus's US shares fell 2.87%. Schneider Electric and PTC: Bloomberg's closing segment named a $23.7 billion takeover, and an earlier FT report relayed on X put it near $20 billion. No company release is on file, and Schneider fell 9.97% in Paris with no source tying that drop to the deal. Option Care: a relayed report says McKesson and Clayton Dubilier & Rice are in advanced talks at more than $5 billion including debt, with nothing formally agreed. Neither PTC nor Option Care is in coverage.
Filings and the wire
Vistra rose 3.48% on 2.07 times volume the day it filed an 8-K. UMC fell 8.95% on 2.88 times volume with a 6-K and amended 6-K filed Monday. Boost Run fell 13.2% with an 8-K filed Monday for a September 29 event. None of the three filings has been reviewed, so all three moves are cause unknown. The wire also flags Lumentum's operating margin at 27.8% in its fiscal fourth quarter against a 5.5% median for the prior four quarters, and Cadence's inventory outrunning sales. These are questions for filings, not verdicts.

11. The Wild & Whacky
- A Nasdaq record with the Dow fund 6.34% under its high. The Dow fund is down 4.11% over 30 days while the Nasdaq-100 fund is up 5.18%; MarketWatch calls the gap a rare divergence.
- The AI landlords fell on the AI index's record day. Neoclouds closed at a −2.1% median as the Nasdaq-100 hit a fresh peak (Bloomberg).
- A takeover target closed a cent over its offer. Athabasca finished at $12.01 against Cenovus's $12 cash-or-stock bid, and Cenovus's US shares fell 2.87%.
- Schneider lost 9.97% the day Bloomberg headlined its $23.7 billion PTC deal. The terms are reported, not released.
- Last week's proteomics doubles gave some back. Quantum-Si fell 17.42% after showing interim Proteus data at HUPO 2026 (Benzinga) and is still up 60% over seven sessions. Business-quality veto: sub-$2 companies with negligible revenue.
- A country traded like a single stock. The Brazil fund rose 12.54% on 7.06 times its normal volume on a first-round election result.
- The calmest VIX beside the most oversold credit. VIX 15.52; high yield at RSI 20.3, the long bond at 22.1.
- Refiners at their highs as crude fell. Valero sits 0.63% and Marathon 0.96% under their highs, with the oil fund down 2.29%.
12. Paper Trade Report Card
October 5 paper results: the three proposals parked over the weekend filled at the canonical Monday noon price, the autotrade book held all five positions, and degen stayed flat. The buffer book opened its October series: 449.87 shares of BOCT at $55.57 ($24,999). The quality book exited Schlumberger at $50.34 (48.91 shares, a $38.15 loss, −1.53%), the confirmed 200-day break it wrote down when it bought. swing-kid bought a photonics basket breakout, 61.78 shares of LAZR at $48.13 ($2,973.60). degen's coded box nominated TQQQ and SPXL; the session passed both because no current research argues for owning either index. The exit check found no sells and 17 trims across the paper books.
The performance command reports these inception returns. Start dates differ, so this is a status table rather than a ranking; the SPY column is each book's gap to SPY over its own window, in percentage points.
| Paper book | Inception return | vs SPY (pts) | Days | Closed trades |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| yolo | +11.42% | −5.6 | 207 | 33 |
| claude-trader | +9.70% | −7.3 | 207 | 27 |
| buffer-trader | +2.14% | −2.7 | 148 | 0 |
| autotrade | +0.83% | −4.2 | 117 | 4 |
| swing-kid | −0.87% | −5.4 | 101 | 8 |
| degen | −1.52% | −2.2 | 62 | 9 |
| momentum-trader | −2.64% | −4.1 | 45 | 3 |
The signal benchmark reports +4.81% on a deployed-notional basis, which is not comparable with the cash-funded books above.
13. What I'd Tell a Friend
The index is at its high on a handful of platforms. Bonds, the average stock and the AI operators that borrow to build are not. Don't chase the leaders; set the levels and let this week's reports do the work.
- NVIDIA ($238.90): through the $236.54 pivot and inside $237–$245, with a $220 stop from the September 28 deep dive. Wait for a retest that holds the pivot rather than buying the breakout day.
- Microsoft ($525.18): over its $522.85 base pivot on 1.24 times volume, on a flat year (−0.64%). A week of closes above the pivot confirms; a close back under it voids the break.
- Nebius ($232.57): a deep pullback in an intact trend, 38% above its 200-day. The setup is a flag that holds the $219.70 shelf; a close under it means the pullback is becoming something worse. CoreWeave stays a wait until a held close above its 200-day (about $92.37).
- Brazil fund ($42.98): broke out of a 23-week base over $41.77 on 7.06 times volume, at RSI 77.9. Wait for a flag that holds $41.77; the October 25 runoff is the binary.
- Equal-weight S&P 500 fund ($211.12): a close above the 20-day ($212.08) is the all-clear for the average stock; a close under the 200-day ($205.84) breaks its trend.
Today: nothing to chase at Monday's prices, and gold stays a stand-aside until it closes back over $416.07. Watch next: Applied Digital's report after Wednesday's close, the neocloud lane's first print of the season.

A desk call is an authored stance from a published report; entry and invalidation conditions are human-read, and the full ledger lives at /calls.
30d vs SPY is the raw name-vs-SPY move since the call — for trim/sell calls a NEGATIVE number means the call worked (the name fell after it).
