Consumer names bounced — 11 of 16 rose on the week, led by Hims & Hers (+6.62%), PayPal (+5.17%) and Toast (+5.1%) — while Starbucks slid -4.18% into the board's only washout (RSI 28.8) in the week a Financial Times report tied it to a possible bid for Chipotle. The bounce did not repair long trends: only Corsair, Crocs and Monster close above their 200-day averages on a positive trailing year.

Data as of the 2026-10-09 close (settled, Friday). The previous edition closed October 2; the seven-day column runs from that close to this one, so it is the change since then.

Quick Snapshot

Signal Reading
Overall 🟡 Bounce, not repair: 11 up, 5 down. 7 of 16 close above their 200-day averages, but four of those seven (Hims & Hers, PayPal, Block, Toast) are still down on the year. No name is above RSI 60.
Leaders HIMS (6.62%), PYPL (5.17%), TOST (5.1%)
Laggards SBUX (-4.18%), CROX (-2.63%), CMG (-2.38%)
Caveat Tape from the desk's pre-computed summaries, 2026-10-09 close. News for most names was last pulled before this week's moves and no October 9 captures are on file yet, so most causes read "not on file", which is not the same as no cause.

What's Going On

The week's company story is a deal report. The Financial Times reported that Starbucks has worked with advisers in recent months on a takeover proposal for Chipotle; Bloomberg, carrying the report on October 8, said Chipotle shares jumped and that the status of the plans could not be learned. Starbucks said it does not comment on rumors and that it will share fourth-quarter results, including fiscal 2027 guidance, later this month (its statement as posted by Jim Cramer on X, October 8). Two days earlier Semafor had reported, citing people close to the company, that Chipotle had not received a bid. Neither stock kept a gain into Friday: Starbucks closed at $90.75, -4.18% on the week and -2.64% on Friday on 1.48 times its average volume; Chipotle closed at $31.59, -2.38% on the week and -3.34% on Friday. MarketWatch's October 8 analyst round-up noted that Starbucks investors would likely not welcome debt to fund a deal, given its existing debt load. No receipt ties Friday's declines to the report, so Friday's cause is not on file.

Structure separates the two. Starbucks is up 13.75% on the year but closed 8.3% under its 200-day average ($98.92) at RSI 28.8: a long trend under test, now washed out. Chipotle is a broken trend, -22.74% on the year and 9% under its 200-day.

Hims & Hers rose 10.19% on Friday on 1.61 times average volume to $30.92, +6.62% on the week. It sits 12.9% above its 200-day but is -46.92% on the year and -52.65% from its 52-week high: a repair, not a trend. Cause not on file: its news was last pulled September 18, so it does not cover the move; an 8-K filed October 7 is on file only as a filing notice, its contents uncaptured; the event records hold nothing for the week. PayPal (+5.17%, 1Y -26.69%, 10.8% above its 200-day) and Toast (+5.1%, 1Y -15.06%, 5.6% above) have the same shape. Toast's October 7 news pull holds quote pages listing a Google Maps ordering integration and analyst target raises without dates; PayPal's was last pulled September 25. Causes not on file. Deckers (+4.76%), Domino's (+3.94%) and Amer Sports (+3.57%) bounced inside broken trends.

Corsair is the clearest long trend: 61.4% above its 200-day on a +71.66% year, RSI 56.9, -9.01% from its high after easing 1.16% on the week. Crocs (-2.63%, 1Y +43.03%, 7.3% above its 200-day) and Monster (+1.63%, 1Y +26.42%, 2.6% above) are intact but closed under their 50-day averages. Nike (+2.48%, RSI 37.7, 1Y -49%) left the washout zone without repairing anything; Lululemon (+0.04%, 1Y -45.53%, 33.5% under its 200-day) is flat and broken.

What Changed Since Prior Scan

Breadth flipped: 11 up and 5 down, against 5 up and 11 down on October 2. Seven of 16 names close above their 200-day averages, against six a week earlier. Leaders rotated from Chipotle, Lionsgate Studios and Domino's to Hims & Hers, PayPal and Toast, and Chipotle dropped to third-worst. The washout list swapped Nike (out) for Starbucks (in). Corsair, the only name above RSI 60 on October 2, now reads 56.9, and no name on the board is above 60.

How To Read The Board

This is a price-and-momentum screen built from the desk's pre-computed summaries: it shows where each name sits on the tape, not why it moved. RSI under 30 is a washout and 70 or above is extended; neither is a recommendation on its own. The structure label carries the long view, and it outranks the week:

  • Trend intact: above the 200-day average with a positive trailing year. A bad week here is a pullback.
  • Repair: above the 200-day but still down on the year. Price has recovered; the trend has not yet proved itself.
  • Trend under test: below the 200-day with a positive year. The 200-day is the line to retake.
  • Trend broken: below the 200-day and down on the year.

A raw screen reading becomes a setup only when an intact trend pulls back and holds a level, then turns up. No insider, fundamentals or options data is included.
