The index was quiet; the AI-hardware complex was not. SPY added +0.25% to $772.49 and the VIX sat at 14.55 — complacent by its own gauge — with credit orderly (HYG +0.1%, LQD −0.6% on the week). August CPI printed exactly in line at +3.4%, and September rate-hike odds faded to 38% on the print (per the same-day @amitisinvesting capture); the Fed's own July monetary policy report has core PCE at 3.4% and a task force studying inflation frameworks — restrictive-for-longer remains the standing weather, and the Hormuz rerouting drag remains the standing geopolitical overhang. None of that was the story today.
Earnings did the talking, and the AI-hardware bill of materials repriced in one session. Nebius closed +34.1% at $259.20 after a second-quarter report that beat the top line ($-0.68 EPS against a $-0.86 consensus, a 21.2% surprise) on what coverage called unprecedented AI computing demand. Lumentum, a day after beating at $3.23 versus $2.97 consensus, ran +13.6% to $932.47 — same-day photonics commentary (@crux_capital_) called its optical-circuit-switch update "monster" — and pulled the whole optical lane +5.4% on the day, with Ciena +11.5% as the named read-through and Coherent +8.2% into its own print, which the same account graded at $2.05B revenue, top of guide. Memory went 10-for-10 green (+6.2% median): Micron +4.9% back through the $904 level its desk call watches, SanDisk +5.8%, Seagate +7.0%. Meanwhile the mega-cap software side sat red — Microsoft −2.3%, Amazon −1.8% — a rotation inside tech, not a tech rally.
The other side of the tape kept score too. Vistra's print landed at $0.76 EPS against a $1.63 consensus — a 53% miss — and the stock has now broken from the $166–169 shelf it held through July to $146.68; the power-squeeze call's July in-zone read was formally invalidated today. And an accountability note the desk owes itself: Nebius was flagged in-zone at the $217 entry a month ago and today's print gapped it through and far past that level — the entry was priced, watched, and not converted. CoreWeave's 112%-growth quarter (revenue $2.575B, $104B backlog) rounds out a print season that is so far paying the compute-infrastructure lane and punishing merchant power.
Watch Thursday: the overnight reactions to Cisco, Coherent, and CBRS's after-hours prints hit at the open, and Applied Materials reports after the close — the WFE early-turn signal (accel +6.6, breadth still unconfirmed) gets its first real test.

3. Focus List
Quantum cluster (IONQ, RGTI, QBTS, QUBT, INFQ, XNDU, HQ, ARQQ, LAES) — a +4% day for IonQ and double-digit weeks for several, all 40–75% below their highs. Today's desk board read vetoed the entire cluster as entries on one shared fact: the revenue is rounding-error at these valuations. Coverage names, not positions — the moves are tracked, not chased.
The desk's takes cover 15 of 24 names; the rest show the mechanical tape state. 1 authored take matched no row (QUANTUM CLUSTER (IONQ, RGTI, QBTS, QUBT, INFQ, XNDU, HQ, ARQQ, LAES)) — kept in the chapter text above.
4. Sector Scorecard
Optical / photonics — +5.4% median on LITE's beat and OCS update; two-for-two on the lane's big prints with COHR graded top-of-guide by the desk's photonics follow. The strongest earnings-driven lane of the season so far. WFE / test & metrology — the rotation map's top early-turn signal (accel +6.6, 43% breadth, ONTO/CAMT/FORM leading) — unconfirmed until breadth broadens; AMAT's Thursday print is the test. Power / merchant energy — VST's −53% miss and shelf break puts the first real dent in the power-squeeze thesis; CEG (+8.2% on the month, holding its reclaim) is now carrying the lane's case. Government compute, copper — the rotation map's strongest inflows (RS +27.7 and +15.7); copper is 100% strong-up breadth.
ETF tape · 42 funds
The desk's curated ETF read — one fund per lane it tracks, not every fund on the watchlists — grouped by what the fund is exposed to, and where each closed on the issue date. The big number and the tile's shade are that session's move (1D); 7D and 30D are the trailing windows behind it, and RSI is the 14-day reading (above 70 is stretched, below 30 washed out). Shades near flat stay gray — a ±0.25% day is not a color.

5. The Wild & Whacky
The stock that trades by appointment. Gold Reserve — the Venezuela-arbitration claim the desk wrote up today — trades so thin its evening over-the-counter quote showed a bid sitting nearly two dollars under the last trade on a five-dollar stock. The 18-year, $5.9-billion Citgo collection saga behind it is today's desk article. Monster Beverage did not crash 51%. It split 2-for-1 on Tuesday and a major data vendor spent the next day serving pre-split history next to post-split prices — producing a phantom RSI of 10.8 on a stock 8% off its high. Caught before anything acted on it; the bars heal when the vendor applies the factor. Redwire +25.8% in five sessions — space-infrastructure speculation running well ahead of any print.
6. What I'd Tell a Friend
Don't chase Tuesday. Nebius at +34% is a lesson about entries, not an entry: the buyable moment was the $217 reclaim a month ago, and the next one is whatever base forms above the gap — let it build. The memory move is different in kind: MU reclaiming $904 after a red month is a trigger the supercycle call pre-registered, and the TrendForce contract tape says the cycle behind it is intact — add-on-strength conditions, not FOMO. If the WFE early-turn is real, AMAT's Wednesday print confirms it with breadth; if it isn't, you lost nothing by waiting one day. And the quantum names: watching is free, and the whole cluster's revenue is still rounding-error — the one thing to watch this week is SanDisk's August 24 print, where the NAND-margin question gets its answer.

A desk call is an authored stance from a published report; entry and invalidation conditions are human-read, and the full ledger lives at /calls.
30d vs SPY is the raw name-vs-SPY move since the call — for trim/sell calls a NEGATIVE number means the call worked (the name fell after it).

web— The photonics desk's COHR scorecard: $2.05B at the top of guide $COHR $CIEN $NOK $LITE · [link](@crux_capital_ on X)- Coherent printed Q4 revenue of $2.05B, up 34% year over year and at the very top of its own guide, per @crux_capital_'s same-day read — and the account graded the print against the pre-earnings checklist it published hours before (6-inch InP ramp, gross-margin path toward 42%, the 1.6T transceiver ramp, the $4B+ OCS o…
𝕏— The Kobeissi Letter — memory is now the tape: NVDA, MU and SNDK are three of the four most-traded US stocks $NVDA $MU $TSLA $SNDK · link- One datapoint that shows how far the memory trade has come: Micron alone now turns over nearly as much notional as Nvidia, and SanDisk out-trades almost everything else on the tape. Crowding is the flip side — the lane's #1 risk has always been that everyone gets in.
𝕏— SemiAnalysis — TileRT compiles the whole model into one persistent GPU kernel, claiming 1.9x decode interactivity on the same Blackwell chips $NVDA · link- Software squeezing 2x more interactive inference out of the same NVIDIA silicon cuts at the core pitch of the dedicated inference-ASIC vendors (Groq, Cerebras, SambaNova) — and raises effective utilization per deployed GPU, which feeds the power-per-rack math the AI-power lane tracks.
𝕏Serenity — (aleabitoreddit) — AAOI's earnings call says China is years behind on CPO lasers, and AAOI itself is capacity-out of first-gen CPO $AAOI $SIVEF $LITE $COHR $AVGO · link- AAOI's own earnings-call language, not analyst spin: management says it is turning away CPO customers for lack of laser capacity and puts China's CPO laser gap at 2-3+ years. That's a primary-source data point on exactly the AXTI/optical-supply-chain chokepoint this desk is already tracking — points capacity scarcity…
𝕏Gaurab Chakrabarti — sulfuric acid for copper leaching has roughly doubled since February · link- A chemicals-company operator citing a real, checkable price series: US Gulf sulfuric acid (the reagent copper leach mines buy in bulk) roughly doubled from February to May and is still holding near double the pre-crisis level. A primary-source industrial-input data point for the copper cost structure, not a chart call.
𝕏Serenity — (aleabitoreddit) — White House puts real dollars behind critical-minerals names: WWR, SRL, FEAM, HREE $WWR $SRL $FEAM · link- Names dollar figures against four specific critical-minerals tickers in one White House funding round — graphite, scandium, boron and rare-earth magnets — rather than the usual vague onshoring rhetoric. HREE could not be ticker-validated this session (fetch failed) and is left untagged; worth a read for anyone trackin…
𝕏Gaetano — (crux_capital_) — the market sold off the wrong optical name: his bull case for why AXTI's China selloff is negotiating leverage, not a real ban $AXTI $AAOI $COHR $LITE · link- A specific, falsifiable bull case on why AXTI diverged from the rest of the optical complex on the same China headline: reads the drop as US negotiating leverage toward easing China's InP permit constraint rather than a real ban. Directly bears on the desk's own open question — AXTI's derate verification has sat unres…
𝕏Winston — (ChurchillWw) — a Mountain Pass-to-Fort Worth rare-earth magnet is now in an automaker's qualification process $MP · link- Traces a fully domestic mine-to-magnet chain — Mountain Pass ore into a Fort Worth press-and-sinter line — reaching an automaker qualification stage, which is MP Materials' own Mountain Pass mine and Fort Worth Independence facility by description. A concrete supply-chain milestone for the onshored rare-earth-magnet b…
𝕏IPO Newsroom — NVIDIA is putting up to $3B into the Blackstone-backed firm that owns the land under Stargate $NVDA $BX · link- A new equity stake, not a chip sale: Nvidia buying into the power-infrastructure landlord under the Stargate site (per The Information) is Nvidia moving up the AI-power stack into the land and grid layer itself. Directly on the AI-power-bottleneck thesis and not yet in today's brief.
𝕏@KobeissiLetter — The Kobeissi Letter — record 4.0M S&P 500 call volume as put/call skew posts its biggest two-day drop since 2017 $SPY $VIXY · link- The two numbers deserve different weight: the record call volume partly rides five years of options-market growth (~700K daily in 2020–21, a 2M ceiling until late 2023), but the skew collapse is pure positioning — traders paying up for upside while abandoning downside protection, and the sharpest such move since 2017,…
