WFE / Test & Metrology Scan
WFE / Test & Metrology Scan
The wafer-equipment, test and metrology book closed 13 of 13 green for the second scan running, and the clean horizon sweep held: every name still has positive trailing-year alpha. The new fact is the breakout in the short windows: Axcelis (20.03% on the week) and FormFactor are now overbought (RSI 73.6 and 72.8), Teradyne rose 8% in a day, and only Amkor remains under its 200-day (-2.2%), down from three names a week ago as Camtek and MKS Instruments reclaimed the line.
Numbers are the settled October 2 close for all 13 names (Friday), one week after the September 25 scan. No name in this book is missing a 200-day or trailing-year comparison. Several names (Teradyne, Kulicke & Soffa, Amkor, FormFactor, Onto) also appear in the supply-chain or optical books. Comparison baseline is the September 25 scan.
Quick Snapshot
| Signal | Reading |
|---|---|
| Overall | 🟢 13 of 13 green; 13 of 13 positive on trailing-year alpha; one name below its 200-day (Amkor), from three on September 25; two names at RSI 70 or higher |
| Leaders | Axcelis (RSI 73.6), FormFactor (72.8), Kulicke & Soffa (69.9), Entegris (69), Applied Materials (69.2), Teradyne (69.6) |
| Laggards | Amkor (RSI 58.8, below its 200-day), MKS Instruments (58), Camtek (63.5) |
| The horizon check | Every name is positive on alpha; Amkor is the only one under its 200-day (-2.2%, alpha 74). Camtek (6.1%) and MKS (2.6%) are back above the line but only just |
| Caveat | Extension, not damage, is the risk: all 13 are above their 20-day, ten by more than 12%. The drivers of the day's gains (Axcelis +8.09%, Teradyne +8%, Camtek +7.41%) are cause unknown. News was re-pulled 2026-10-03 for Applied Materials, Lam Research and MKS only, with no item on an October 2 move; the Axcelis, Teradyne and Camtek receipts predate October 2, so news was not pulled for those moves. The stock-event files were checked (only Nike's October 1 earnings and Corteva's October 1 spin-off are filed), and the desk's October 1-2 article and X captures were searched by company name (an October 2 X post lists Teradyne among rallying test names without naming a cause). Moves below with no stated cause are therefore cause unknown, not cause absent. |
What's Going On
Every name closed green again, and the move is accelerating at the top. Axcelis gained 8.09% on the day and 20.03% on the week to RSI 73.6, now 25.3% above its 20-day; Teradyne gained 8% to RSI 69.6; Camtek gained 7.41%. No dated cause for any of the three is in the corpus (news was not pulled for these moves: Teradyne's last pull is September 15, Axcelis's September 22, Camtek's October 1; stock-events and the October 1-2 captures checked), so the strength is cause unknown. The tool-makers with the largest trailing years are the names leading: Teradyne 210.69%, FormFactor 278.36%, Applied Materials 141.53%, Lam Research 136.4%.
The repair at the bottom is the quieter story. A week ago three names were under their 200-day; today Camtek (6.1%) and MKS Instruments (2.6%) have reclaimed it and only Amkor (-2.2%) remains under, with alpha 74 and a 5.9% day. Camtek and MKS are thin reclaims: a one-session dip would put both back under, so the reclaim is unconfirmed until it survives a pullback.
Entegris: RSI 69, 26% above its 200-day, -10.95% from its high. ASML (-6.63% from its high, RSI 64.8) is the closest to its high among the large names and is labeled basing. KLA, Applied and Lam all sit 20% or more below their highs (-32.69%, -26.99%, -20.75%) despite trailing years of 81.59% to 141.53%: a classic deep-pullback-inside-an-intact-trend shape, now rebounding.
What Changed Since Prior Scan
- Names below their 200-day: one (AMKR) versus three (CAMT, AMKR, MKSI) on September 25.
- Trailing-year alpha: still 13 of 13 positive, the third consecutive scan with a clean sweep.
- Overbought: two names at RSI 70 or higher (ACLS, FORM); on September 25 the highest was FormFactor at 62.9, so the whole book has moved up a tier.
- Breadth: 13 of 13 green today, the same as on September 25.
- Axcelis's thesis repair has extended: alpha is now 42.92.
How To Read The Board
The long layer is as good as it gets: 13 of 13 names with positive alpha, 12 of 13 above their 200-day, trailing years of 40.58% (Camtek) to 278.36% (FormFactor). The short layer is stretched: two names overbought, ten more than 12% above their 20-day. That combination argues for patience with new money, not for selling winners.
Amkor is the only trend-under-test label in this book (under its 200-day, positive alpha). Camtek and MKS are reclaimed-but-thin.
Source limits: price and RSI against moving averages; this board has no order-backlog, WFE-spend or earnings data. The desk's thesis rating covers only Kulicke & Soffa (intact-but-priced).
