Crypto lost its bid while US stocks held near their highs: Bitcoin slipped 2.55% on the week to sit 2.3% under its 20-day but still 14.6% above its 200-day, ether fell 7.15% to RSI 38, and the miners broke — Marathon, Riot and CleanSpark each fell 14% to 18% on the week and closed below their 200-day averages at RSI near 32. Read as a risk gauge, appetite is draining from the edges first while Bitcoin's long trend holds; the selling is crypto-specific, not market-wide.

Coin prices are an intraday snapshot of the 24/7 market taken the afternoon of October 9 (Pacific), not a settled close; funds and equities are the settled Friday, October 9 close, per the desk's price summaries. Comparisons to the October 2 edition are direction-only. This page states where no dated item covers a move; it does not infer causes.

Quick Snapshot

Signal Reading
Overall 🟡 Bitcoin's trend intact, breadth beneath it broken: ether near oversold, miners below their 200-days
Bitcoin $82338.4, -2.55% on the week, RSI 49.4, -2.3% vs its 20-day, 14.6% vs its 200-day, -32.35% 1Y
Biggest weekly movers CLSK (-17.58%), RIOT (-14.39%), MARA (-14.07%), BKKT (-11.23%); DOT (5.22%) the only coin up
Structure Eight of nine coins hold above their 200-days; DOGE slipped under. All three miners and COIN sit below theirs
Still broken on the year Every coin is negative over twelve months, from BTC (-32.35%) to ADA (-70.93%) and DOT (-70.34%)
Caveat No fund-flow, dominance or on-chain data in this source. ZCSH, BHYP, HYPG, ETHB and GLNK sit outside the formal tiers: thin history or no issuer-verified identity
Key insight The order of the selling — miners, then alts, then Bitcoin — is the order in which risk appetite usually leaves. Bitcoin above its 200-day says this is not yet capitulation

What's Going On

Bitcoin held its long trend; everything around it weakened. BTC traded at $82,338.40 in the afternoon snapshot (RSI 49.4), down 2.55% on the week, 2.3% under its 20-day ($84,274.36) and 14.6% above its 200-day, with a one-year return of -32.35%. Ether fell 7.15% to $2,477.35 (RSI 38, 7.2% under its 20-day), though it remains 16.3% above its 200-day. Solana (-8.3%), Dogecoin (-8.92%), Chainlink (-7.54%) and XRP (-6.08%) fell harder than Bitcoin. Every crypto name on this list closed lower on both October 7 and October 8 (the market briefs for those days); the October 7 brief found nothing on file to explain it, and Bitcoin's own news file was last pulled September 19, so news was not pulled for this week's moves. Cause not on file.

The miners broke their 200-days. Marathon closed $9.65 (RSI 33.1, down 14.07% on the week, 12.1% under its 200-day), Riot $16.89 (RSI 32.1, down 14.39%, 13.2% under) and CleanSpark $10.50 (RSI 31.9, down 17.58%, 16.5% under). All three sit 17.6% to 19.6% below their 20-days. Last edition each was barely above its 200-day; this week the cushion gave way. CleanSpark's fiscal third-quarter results are dated October 8 in its news pull, but nothing on file ties the release to the price, and Riot and Marathon fell as far without a report — the group's cause is not on file.

Both bellwethers lost ground. Strategy (MSTR) closed $154.34, RSI 55.4, down 3.54% on the week, 13.6% above its 200-day but 53.09% off its high with a -51.81% year, and its 50-day ($129.82) still sits under its 200-day ($135.86). Coinbase rose 4.3% on Friday to $179.39 but is down 1.97% on the week, 2.4% under its 200-day, with a -53.65% year. Robinhood (down 3.3%) held 15.9% above its 200-day; Bakkt fell 11.23%.

Fund wrappers tracked their coins. IBIT fell 2.47% and GBTC 2.41% against Bitcoin's 2.55%; ETHE fell 7.37% against ether's 7.15%. Nothing in price alone shows a dislocation, and price cannot show creations or redemptions.

The unverified entrants. ZCSH closed $32.02, down 5.93% on the week, with a one-year gain of 498.5% and a 140.7% cushion over its 200-day. News on file dated October 5-8 (CryptoRank; Gate News) describes it as Grayscale's Zcash ETF and reports roughly $93 million leaving it in its first weekly outflow; the October 8 market brief recorded a 12.25% one-day drop. That identity is aggregator-reported, not checked against an issuer filing, so ZCSH stays outside the formal tiers. BHYP, HYPG and ETHB have less than a year of history; GLNK fell 6.16% on the week. Polkadot was the one coin up on the week (5.22%, 11.01% in the latest bar); its news was last pulled September 23, so the cause is not on file.

What Changed Since Prior Scan (2026-10-02 → 2026-10-09)

Change Read
Miners lost their 200-days — MARA, RIOT and CLSK all closed below Last edition the cushion was thin; it is gone
Bitcoin's momentum fell from the low 60s to RSI 49.4 and price slipped under the 20-day Long trend unchanged: still 14.6% above its 200-day
Ether fell toward oversold (RSI 38) Last edition it was in the high 50s
DOGE fell below its 200-day Last edition it was just above
DOGE and DOT death crosses resolved on the flags — both now show the 50-day over the 200-day DOGE's two averages are nearly equal, so the flag carries little weight; DOT was the only coin up on the week
Every coin and wrapper fell on the week except DOT Last edition Bitcoin was flat while alts faded; this week Bitcoin joined the decline, more mildly
MSTR's bounce stalled Still death-crossed, still well above its 200-day
ZCSH acquired a reported identity and a reported outflow Aggregator news, not issuer-verified

How To Read The Board

Crypto is read here as a risk-appetite gauge first and an asset class second. When Bitcoin, alts, wrappers and equities move together, risk appetite is broad; when the high-beta edges (alts, miners) lead the move, it is narrow and fragile. Coin bars are 24/7 and the latest one is still forming; funds and equities are US-session closes, so their seven-day windows differ slightly from the coins'. No ETF flow, premium or dominance data exists in this source.

Tier Analysis

Capitulation (RSI below 25): None.

Oversold (RSI 25-40): CLSK (31.9), RIOT (32.1), MARA (33.1), ETH-USD (38), BKKT (38.1). DOGE-USD sits on the line at 40. The three miners and Bakkt are below their 200-days; ether is the one oversold-band name with its long trend intact.

Neutral / Strong (RSI 40+): the rest. Highest: DOT-USD (55.9), MSTR (55.4), IBIT and GBTC (53.5). Nothing near 70.

BTC Dominance & Momentum

No dominance figure exists in this source; price is the proxy. Bitcoin fell 2.55% on the week against ether's 7.15%, Solana's 8.3%, Dogecoin's 8.92% and Chainlink's 7.54%, so Bitcoin gained ground on the alts — the defensive end of crypto held better. BTC-USD momentum is neutral (RSI 49.4), with price under its 20-day average but above its 50-day average. Alt season is not in evidence: the only coin up on the week is Polkadot, and Avalanche's strong month (30.81%) gave back 5.65% this week.

ETF Flows (read from price only)

Price shows tracking, not flows. IBIT (-2.47%), GBTC (-2.41%) and BITO (-2.48%) all moved within a fraction of a point of Bitcoin's -2.55%, and ETHE (-7.37%) tracked ether (-7.15%); the windows differ slightly because coin bars are 24/7. Creations, redemptions and premiums are not in this source. The only flow figure on file this week is the roughly $93 million outflow aggregators reported from ZCSH. Spot ETF flow data is a missing-data request, not an inference.

Miner Health

The miners are the week's structural break. Marathon (12.1% under its 200-day), Riot (13.2% under) and CleanSpark (16.5% under) all lost the long average they were barely holding last edition, and all three sit near RSI 32. One-year returns: Riot -24.19%, CleanSpark -47.74%, Marathon -52.23%. Profitability, hashprice and production data are not in this source; the tape alone says the group is in a downtrend now, not a pullback. Marathon's support shelf is $9.11 and Riot's $15.81; CleanSpark has no shelf below its price in the summary.

MSTR / COIN As Bellwethers

MSTR ($154.34) is 13.6% above its 200-day but its 50-day ($129.82) remains under the 200-day ($135.86), a death cross, with a -51.81% year and a support shelf at $138.46. COIN ($179.39) is the weaker of the two: 2.4% under its 200-day ($183.78), a -53.65% year, and a Friday bounce (4.3%) that did not erase the week. Neither confirms a turn in risk appetite.

Key Levels

Asset Levels
BTC-USD 20-day $84274.36; 50-day $80714.38; support shelf $78370.14; 200-day $71855.26; -33.46% from its 52-week high
ETH-USD 20-day $2669.23; 50-day $2554.02; support shelf $2325.84; 200-day $2130.25; -45.33% from its 52-week high
IBIT support shelf $44.5; 200-day $41.87
MSTR support shelf $138.46; 200-day $135.86

Above price, Bitcoin's breakout pivot sits at $87,363.76 and ether's at $2,805.50; both sit above their 20-day averages, so a 20-day reclaim comes first.

Risk Gauge

🟡 Fading, crypto-specific. The selling ran in risk order — miners broke their 200-days, alts fell much further than Bitcoin, ether slid toward oversold — while Bitcoin itself held 14.6% above its 200-day. The broad market did not join: the Nasdaq-100 fund QQQM closed 1.51% under its 52-week high and the S&P 500 fund VOO 0.4% under its high on October 9, and the October 8 market brief recorded the VIX at 15.41 with the high-yield spread at 3.09% (October 7). Crypto has decoupled to the downside from equities that are holding up. A Bitcoin close under its support shelf would turn a fading gauge into a risk-off one; a reclaim of the 20-day with miners back over their 200-days would reverse it.

Entry Zones

Ticker Entry Zone Thesis
BTC-USD Current $82338.4; 50-day $80714.38, support shelf $78370.14, 200-day $71855.26 Long trend intact on a negative year; a hold of the 50-day or the shelf is the flag condition
IBIT Current $46.55; support shelf $44.5, 200-day $41.87 The listed wrapper for the same condition
ETH-USD Current $2477.35; support shelf $2325.84, 200-day $2130.25 Near oversold above its 200-day; the shelf has to hold
MSTR Current $154.34; support shelf $138.46, 200-day $135.86 Death cross unresolved; the shelf and 200-day are the floor
MARA / RIOT / CLSK MARA $9.65 (200-day $10.98); RIOT $16.89 (200-day $19.45); CLSK $10.5 (200-day $12.57) Broke their 200-days; no zone until a reclaim
COIN Current $179.39; 200-day $183.78 Below its 200-day on a deeply negative year; reclaim first

What To Watch Next

  • Bitcoin's 50-day ($80,714.38) and support shelf ($78,370.14). A hold keeps this a pullback inside the trend; a break points at the 200-day ($71,855.26).
  • Ether's shelf ($2,325.84). RSI 38 with the 200-day at $2,130.25 underneath.
  • Miner reclaims. MARA $10.98, RIOT $19.45, CLSK $12.57 are the 200-days to retake.
  • Does the decoupling close? Equities are near highs; either crypto catches up or equities follow it down. The September CPI is scheduled for October 14 (per the October 8 market brief).
  • ZCSH's identity and flows need an issuer filing before any use.
  • Missing data: spot ETF flows and Bitcoin dominance are not in this source.
