The consumer names bounced out of oversold while Tesla and Hims & Hers gave ground. BellRing (+10.29%), Nike (+6.97%), Starbucks (+7.46%) and Crocs (+7.1%) all rose on the week, nothing is under RSI 40 any more, and Starbucks closed within 1.7% of its 200-day with alpha just positive. The long layer barely moved: six of eight names are still under their 200-days, and the bounces in BellRing, Nike and Lululemon sit on trailing years of -71.6%, -44.45% and -41.02%. Tesla fell 7.31% to 8.6% under its line, Hims lost 9.22%, and Crocs is the only name that passes the horizon check cleanly.

Numbers are the settled October 16 close for all 8 names (Friday); 7D is the five sessions since the October 9 close. All eight names have full 200-day and trailing-year data. Comparison baseline is the October 9 scan.

Quick Snapshot

Signal Reading
Overall 🟡 5 of 8 up on the week (from 6) and 3 of 8 up on Friday (from 5); no name under RSI 40 (Starbucks was 28.8); 6 of 8 under their 200-day (unchanged); 6 of 8 with negative trailing-year alpha (from 7); 2 of 8 under their 20-day
Leaders BellRing (RSI 62, +4.89% Friday, thesis broken), Nike (58), Crocs (55.6), Starbucks (54.5), Domino's (51.3)
Laggards Tesla (RSI 42.2, -7.31% week), Hims & Hers (45.8, -9.22% week, -4.46% Friday), Lululemon (46)
The horizon check Above the 200-day: Crocs (+14.1%, +48.09% year, alpha 32.56) and Hims (+2.9%, but a -52.54% year). Starbucks is 1.7% under with alpha 0.1 (from -2.25). BellRing, Nike, Lululemon and Domino's sit 11% to 33% under their lines on years of -25.98% to -71.6%. Tesla is 8.6% under on a -17.27% year (thesis rating intact)
Caveat Most single-name moves have no cause on file. News for BellRing, Hims and Starbucks was last pulled October 9, Nike's October 6, so news was not pulled for those moves; Lululemon's and Tesla's were pulled after Thursday's close. Dated context: Starbucks told CNBC on October 12 it is not buying Chipotle (CNBC); Domino's beat on October 13 and fell 4.76% on soft US same-store sales (October 13 market brief, citing Yahoo Finance); Tesla held its Roadster reveal on October 15 evening (StockAnalysis). The October 15 brief counted consumer 16 of 16 up and linked the bounce to heavy fund-manager underweights (BofA survey, via the Kobeissi Letter), not to a company event. Friday's moves (BellRing +4.89%, Hims -4.46%) are cause not checked

What's Going On

The bounce this week ran against the long-window ranking again. The October 15 market brief had the whole consumer lane up 16 of 16 on Thursday, with Crocs, Hims and Lululemon leading, in the sector fund managers hold most underweight; that reads as positioning, and nothing on file ties it to a company. BellRing rose 10.29% to RSI 62, 15.1% over its 20-day, yet it is still 33% under its 200-day (14.07) on a -71.6% year and 72.96% off its high, with its thesis rating broken. Nike rose 6.97% to RSI 58, 21.7% under its line, -44.45% year. These are bounces inside collapses, not repairs. No cause is on file for either; BellRing's news was last pulled October 9.

Starbucks is the closest to a structural change. It rose 7.46% to 97.52 (RSI 54.5, from 28.8), narrowing its gap to the 200-day (99.16) from -8.3% to -1.7%, with alpha turning positive (0.1) on a +15.63% year. It sits 3.4% over its 20-day and a short step above its 96.28 shelf. On October 12 Starbucks told CNBC it is not buying Chipotle, after the October 8 Financial Times report of takeover work; the company reports fiscal fourth-quarter results later this month (provider date October 29). Whether the denial or the lane bounce drove the week is not on file.

Tesla and Hims moved the other way. Tesla fell 7.31% to 354.72 (RSI 42.2, -2.13% Friday on 1.83 times normal volume), 4.2% under its 20-day and 8.6% under its 200-day (387.99), after sitting 2% under it last week; its year is -17.27% with alpha -32.8. It held its Roadster reveal on the evening of October 15 (StockAnalysis), Barclays floated a Tesla-SpaceX merger before year-end (Bloomberg, via the October 15 brief), and CNBC reported on October 16 that Kalshi odds of a merger rose above 50% for early 2027 as Barclays outlined how a deal could work. None of these is tied to the price move, and the report is scheduled October 21. Hims fell 9.22% (RSI 45.8, from 57.1) and is only 2.9% above its line, on a -52.54% year with alpha -68.08.

Crocs is the one name that passes. It rose 7.1% to 123.14 (RSI 55.6), 14.1% above its 200-day (107.93), on a +48.09% year with alpha 32.56, in a 9.2-week base with a 133.62 pivot. Domino's was flat on the week (-0.23%, +1.83% Friday): it beat on October 13 and fell on weak US same-store sales, and it remains 11.2% under its line on a -25.98% year.

What Changed Since Prior Scan

  • RSI below 40: none, versus three (Starbucks 28.8, Nike 37.7, Lululemon 38.1). Starbucks moved from 28.8 to 54.5, Nike from 37.7 to 58, BellRing from 48.2 to 62.
  • Under the 200-day: still the same six (BRBR, NKE, LULU, SBUX, DPZ, TSLA). Starbucks' gap narrowed from -8.3% to -1.7%, Nike's from -27.7% to -21.7%, BellRing's from -41.3% to -33%, Domino's from -11.8% to -11.2%; Tesla's widened from -2% to -8.6%.
  • Alpha: Starbucks turned positive (0.1), so Crocs and Starbucks are the two positive names, versus Crocs alone.
  • Breadth: 5 of 8 up on the week, versus 6; Friday was 3 green (BellRing, Starbucks, Domino's), versus 5.
  • Leadership: BellRing, Nike and Crocs lead on RSI; Tesla and Hims, the top two last week (59.7 and 57.1), are now at the bottom of the RSI ranking.

How To Read The Board

The long layer is again the verdict: six of eight names have negative alpha, and the four with trailing years worse than -40% (BellRing, Lululemon, Nike, Hims) are not discount candidates however they bounce. A 10% week in BellRing on a -71.6% year with a broken thesis is noise until something on file explains it. Hims above its line on a -52.54% year is a recovery from a drawdown, not an uptrend.

The cultural-thesis idea is a consumer-behavior frame rather than a valuation screen, and the price side still says the frame is mostly not working: Crocs passes, Starbucks is within a percent and a half of passing, and the rest fail. Starbucks and Tesla are the two names near enough to their 200-days for a repair to matter.

Source limits: price and RSI against moving averages and the thesis rating (BellRing broken, Tesla intact). No revenue, comparable-sales or estimate data are on this board, and news pulls for BellRing, Hims, Nike, Starbucks and Crocs predate this week's moves.

Tier Analysis

Capitulation (RSI below 25): none.

Oversold (RSI 25-40): none; the lowest RSI is Tesla at 42.2. On October 9 three names sat under 40.

Neutral to strong (RSI 40+) — all 8 names: BellRing (62), Nike (58), Crocs (55.6), Starbucks (54.5), Domino's (51.3), Lululemon (46), Hims (45.8), Tesla (42.2). Nothing is near overbought; the highest, BellRing, is a broken thesis bouncing.

Entry Zones

Stock Entry zone Thesis
CROX A hold of its 20-day (120.37) and 200-day (107.93); 133.62 pivot of a 9.2-week base Only name with a strong year; pullback inside an intact trend; report scheduled October 29
SBUX A held close back above its 200-day (99.16); 96.28 shelf below; 108.74 pivot Alpha 0.1 on a +15.63% year; report scheduled October 29 (provider estimate)
TSLA A held close above its 200-day (387.99), with the 388.56 base pivot at the same line Thesis rating intact, negative alpha; report scheduled October 21
NKE, HIMS None Nike 21.7% under its line on a -44.45% year; Hims' 32.72 pivot and 25.17 shelf do not fix a -52.54% year
BRBR, LULU, DPZ None Negative alpha on every long window; BellRing's thesis is broken

Action Matrix

Stock Signal Action Notes
CROX 🟢 Only strong year 🔒 Hold Pullback above the 200-day; a second positive-alpha name is Starbucks
SBUX 🟡 1.7% under the line, alpha just positive 🔍 Watch Closest repair on the board; the Chipotle denial is the dated item
TSLA 🟡 Gap widened to 8.6% 🔍 Watch Thesis intact; October 21 report
HIMS 🟡 Weak week, negative alpha ⚠️ Avoid -9.22% week on a -52.54% year
NKE, LULU, DPZ 🔴 Negative alpha ⚠️ Avoid Damage, not discount; Domino's fell after its October 13 beat
BRBR 🔴 Thesis broken ❌ Don't buy +10.29% week with nothing on file

What To Watch Next

Watch Why it matters
Starbucks at its 200-day (99.16) 1.7% away; a held close flips it to the second name above the line
Tesla's 200-day (387.99) and the October 21 report The gap widened from 2% to 8.6% in a week; the print is the next dated test
Crocs at 107.93 The only positive-alpha name above its line; report scheduled October 29
Whether the consumer bounce has a cause beyond positioning 16 of 16 up on October 15 with nothing on file; broken years make the bounce fragile
Hims at its 200-day (27.27) 2.9% cushion on a -52.54% year
