1. The Read
Money moved a long way today without the bond market moving at all, and that is the whole story. The S&P proxy closed $773.17, up 1.05%, RSI 58.8 and 0.8% under the $779.37 pivot it has circled since late August. Volatility fell with it — VIX 14.32, off 5.8%, deep in the zone where there is no fear discount left to buy. But the two-year sat at 4.39% and the ten-year at 4.79%, the curve holding +0.43%, and the long bond went up 0.15% — a rounding error. Nothing about the price of time changed today. What changed was where money was willing to stand, and it walked a long way out the risk curve on its own.
Software was the destination. The software group closed up 3.41% against the index's 1.05% and the equal-weight tape's 0.66% — beating the broad market three to one and equal-weight five to one — and it did it with unusual uniformity: sixteen of sixteen cloud-software names green, nine of nine web-infrastructure names green, all four cloud ETFs green. Snowflake led at +16.55% on five times average volume after Tuesday's after-close print, where it earned $0.62 against a $0.45 consensus and JP Morgan responded by lifting its target from $285 to $426. It was not alone: the entire Tuesday-night slate beat, seven for seven — Argan by 41%, Snowflake by 39%, C3.ai by 23%, NetApp by 22%, Five Below by 19%, Hewlett Packard Enterprise by 18%, Broadcom by 3%. ServiceNow added 6.49%, Elastic 7.31%, CrowdStrike 5.68%, Okta 4.46%, Atlassian 4.42%.
The volume is where the enthusiasm should stop. Outside Snowflake and Zscaler — the two names carrying actual news — most of that move happened on below-average turnover: Atlassian at 0.60 times its norm, Workday 0.59, HubSpot 0.48, Fastly 0.64, Nebius 0.46. And the names that bounced hardest relative to their damage were the most broken ones — Datadog, down 11.60% on the week and 25.47% on the month, up 2.64%; MongoDB, down 12.72% on the week, up 2.41%; Fastly, down 14.21% on the week, up 3.38%. A group that goes sixteen-for-sixteen green on thin volume, led by its worst-damaged members, is covering and gap-filling, not accumulating. The cleanest evidence sits inside the earnings slate itself: Broadcom beat and fell 2.74% on three times normal volume. When a beat gets sold on heavy volume and a bounce gets bought on light volume, the buying is the less serious of the two.
The AI-provider stack moved as one bloc — ten of ten green, a 6.5% median — but the composition matters more than the count. The leaders were the crypto-levered names: Cipher +14.43%, Galaxy +10.14%, TeraWulf +9.51%, Hut 8 +9.18%, Core Scientific +6.48%. The purer compute names trailed them badly — IREN +5.18%, CoreWeave +4.49%, Applied Digital +4.01%, Nebius +3.20%. Bitcoin closed $80,982, up 4.76% with RSI 72.6, and the crypto lane posted a 10.1% median with none of eleven names red. Read in that order, this was not an AI-demand bid that happened to include miners; it was a bitcoin bid that reached the miners who host AI, and the further a name sat from the coin, the less it got. The thirty-day picture still says bounce, not turn: Core Scientific -21.53%, Applied Digital -17.14%, Cipher -14.77%, TeraWulf -14.04%.
What did not come is the part that makes this a rotation rather than a re-rating. Semiconductors went nowhere — the semis proxy up 0.39% on a day software rose 3.41% — and Broadcom fell outright. Staples closed red, energy fell 0.74% despite a record diesel print, chemicals and food security both fell 1.1%, and the livestock lane dropped 2.0% with one of twenty names up. Small caps managed 0.40%. So the index gain was real and the breadth behind it was not: the equal-weight tape is flat over thirty days at -0.08%, 396 names sit in pullback and 170 in collapse against 290 confirmed uptrends, and only one of the desk's four turn tells crossed. Money did not enter the market today. It moved from the short end of the risk curve to the long end, out of hardware, cash flows and commodities and into multiples — and it did so without a single basis point of help from rates to justify the move.
Two mechanical triggers fired and one company broke. The food-security setup now meets both stated reopening legs — the fertilizer name above $25 at RSI 65.3, the ag basket above $28 — with corn and wheat each up better than 13% on the month, though the fertilizer name still carries a death cross, so the conditions are met while the trend repair is not. Bitcoin's close puts it through the level that reopens the crypto-and-geopolitics question, but "sustained" means more than one session and this is day one. Separately, Ultragenyx fell 44.0% on 11.6 times volume after its Phase 3 Aspire study of apazunersen in Angelman syndrome missed both its primary cognitive endpoint and its key secondary measure, with no separation from placebo; Baird, RBC and Wells Fargo all cut to neutral-equivalent ratings within hours, targets going to $16, $19 and $18. Biotech as a group closed flat, so that was single-asset risk, not a sector event.
Watch Friday. The jobs report decides whether today's index strength was a start or another one-day cross, and it lands on a market with VIX at 14, a crowd genuinely split on the September meeting — 55% hold on Kalshi against 43% hike on Polymarket — and nothing at all priced for disappointment. Tonight's after-close prints from Lululemon and Zscaler go into that same thin cushion.

4. Sector Scorecard
Software — the day's real leader once the index is netted out: the software proxy +3.41% against SPY's +1.05%, with sixteen of sixteen cloud-software names, nine of nine web-infrastructure names and four of four cloud ETFs closing green. The fuel was an earnings cluster that beat seven for seven Tuesday night. The caveat is turnover — outside Snowflake and Zscaler the move came on below-average volume, and the hardest bounces were the most damaged names. AI providers / neoclouds — ten of ten green on a 6.5% median, but sorted by crypto exposure rather than compute exposure: Cipher +14.43% and Galaxy +10.14% at the top, Nebius +3.20% and Applied Digital +4.01% at the bottom. A bitcoin bid reaching the hosts, with a thirty-day relative strength still at -13.7. Bounce with a positive divergence, not a confirmed turn. Semiconductors — the dog that did not bark: +0.39% on a day software rose 3.41%, with Broadcom down 2.74% on three times volume despite beating. Whatever bid software today explicitly declined to pay for the hardware underneath it. Gold and miners — the breakdown watch un-crossed. Bullion closed $410.22, up 1.85% and now only 1.2% under its 200-day, while the miners never confirmed any break at all: GDX $101.49, up 3.95% on the day and 13.1% above its own 200-day, with a 30-day gain of 30.25%. Airlines, etch equipment, test metrology — the three lanes money left, at -19.5, -15.8 and -14.6 relative strength.

The desk's curated ETF read — one fund per lane it tracks, not every fund on the watchlists — grouped by what the fund is exposed to, and where each closed on the issue date. The big number and the tile's shade are that session's move (1D); 7D and 30D are the trailing windows behind it, and RSI is the 14-day reading (above 70 is stretched, below 30 washed out). Shades near flat stay gray — a ±0.25% day is not a color.

5. The Wild & Whacky
MicroStrategy rose 17.56% in a session while the asset it is a proxy for rose 4.76% — a 3.7x beta to its own underlying, on a day its leveraged wrappers show +97% thirty-day moves and sit 93.6% below their highs.
The quantum complex fell as a group on the single most speculative day of the month. When bitcoin, miners and Cipher are all up double digits and five quantum names are still strong-down under their 200-days, the speculation is discriminating.
Bloom Energy jumped 8.41% and reached three alarm bells the same session two of its standing entry zones were retired as dead — both stopped out back in July. The tape came back to a level the desk had already buried.
The crowd now prices bitcoin reaching $80,000 by year end at 100%, which is what a prediction market looks like the day after the question stops being a question.
6. What I'd Tell a Friend
Today was a real up day in the index and a thin one underneath, and the honest posture is to treat it as evidence rather than confirmation. The level that matters on the S&P proxy is $779.37 — 0.8% up — because clearing it is what turns a lone tell into a trend. Under it, breadth is the thing to watch, not price: the equal-weight tape flat on the month is the number that undercuts the whole rally story.
The most interesting setup is the AI-provider stack, and the discipline is to not confuse the bounce with the turn. A group that is up 5.8% in a day and still down 13.7% in relative terms over a month has done exactly one good session. What would make it real is a second and third — specifically the week's relative strength staying positive while the month's climbs off the floor.
On the two mechanical triggers that fired: the food-security conditions are met on the letter and unmet on the structure, because the fertilizer name's fifty-day average is still under its two-hundred-day. Conditions met plus trend unrepaired is a watch, not a buy. Bitcoin through $80,000 with RSI 72.6 is day one of a condition that requires sustained.
Watch the jobs number Friday, and watch whether tonight's after-close prints get a bid in a market with VIX at 14 and nothing priced for disappointment.

web— Eric Nuttall - 60 days to the midterms with diesel at a record $XLE $XOP $VLO $PSX $MPC $USO $BNO · link- Nuttall frames the energy tape as a political clock: 60 days to the US midterms with $240/bbl diesel, $4.10/gallon gasoline and the 10-year at 4.75%, arguing pressure on the President to say or do something to push oil down only builds from here. Worth keeping because it landed the same session US national diesel set…
𝕏Paradis — TrendForce: memory chips to hit 68% of cloud-provider capex in 2027 $MU $SNDK · link- TrendForce now models DRAM and NAND rising from under half of hyperscaler spending in 2026 to more than two-thirds in 2027 — the poster notes even his own earlier estimate (~50%) undershot it. A concrete, sourced number for how fast memory is eating the AI-infrastructure budget.
𝕏Winston — the US and China drew almost the same fossil-fuel share of power in 2025 · link- IEA-sourced chart: the US and China landed at nearly the same fossil-fuel share of generation in 2025 (57% vs 58%) but via opposite fuels (US gas, China coal) - and the forecast has their fossil shares crossing by 2030. Useful grounding for how much gas-fired capacity the US grid still needs to add to keep up with AI…
𝕏Serenity — Broadcom's CEO: laser demand "far surpassing supply" $AVGO · link- Broadcom's own earnings-call commentary tonight: laser supply can't keep up with demand even as the company triples capacity, and FY28 revenue guidance (~$230B) came in well above the Street's ~$180B model. Direct read on how tight the optical-buildout capacity picture actually is, from the company selling into it.
𝕏IPO Newsroom — Nscale now touts $103B in contracted revenue ahead of its IPO · link- Per The Information (relayed here): Nscale's contracted-revenue backlog roughly doubled, from $51B to $103B, on the back of a single $45B Anthropic compute deal. A concrete marker of how much AI-lab demand is flowing into neocloud capacity ahead of the IPO wave.
𝕏Serenity — Nvidia told JPMorgan its demand could run 100%+ y/y unconstrained $NVDA · link- Nvidia's own investor-relations framing, relayed here: guidance of ~70% y/y growth (to ~$682B FY28) is a supply ceiling, not a demand ceiling — unconstrained demand implies over $800B. Useful number to have on hand for how much slack is left in the compute build-out even after two years of triple-digit growth.
𝕏Eric Nuttall — global oil inventories at all-time lows despite record SPR/floating-storage draws · link- Eric Nuttall's numbers on the physical oil market underneath tonight's energy strength: Middle East production down 7.4 million barrels/day versus February, Strait exports down at least 4 million barrels/day, and global inventories at record lows even after absorbing 400M+ barrels of SPR and floating-storage releases.

web— US 30-Year Bond Enters September on Worst Stretch Since 2006 $TLT · link- The single best framing of what drove today's tape. Yields on the longest Treasuries have not been this high for this long since 2006, and Bloomberg names the three things keeping them there: the deficit, a fresh wave of corporate issuance, and a September Fed meeting the market now prices at 59% for a hike.
