Bargain Bin Scan
Nothing passes the strict filter this week: no name in the 45-stock universe sits under RSI 30, so the list is empty. Last week's six oversold names — Lowe's, McDonald's, PepsiCo, Home Depot, Nike and Trade Desk — all bounced above 30 without repairing their trends, and the one near-miss with an intact long trend is Deere (RSI 33.3, still 4.8% above its 200-day after a 9.62% weekly drop). The rest of the cheap end is consumer and housing large-caps below their 200-day averages.
Data as of the settled Friday, October 9 close, per the desk's price summaries; all 45 rows carry that date. Prior-edition comparisons are direction-only, from the October 2 edition.
Quick Snapshot
| Signal | Reading |
|---|---|
| Overall | 🟡 Empty strict list; the oversold pocket bounced but did not repair |
| Strict hits (RSI under 30, under 20-day) | 0 |
| Top-ranked near-miss (quality x discount) | DE — RSI 33.3, -8.5% vs its 20-day, 4.8% vs its 200-day, 36.1% 1Y |
| Closest misses (RSI 30-40, under 20-day) | DE, TTD, BKNG, MCD, PEP, NKE, LULU — all seven between RSI 33.3 and 38.1 |
| Quality dips (under 20-day, at or above 200-day) | DE, QCOM, TMO, CAT (on its 200-day), CRM, WDAY, META |
| Broken-thesis override | INTU — thesis flagged broken (-53.06% 1Y, -21.2% vs its 200-day); excluded from ranking |
| Breadth | 22 of 45 names sit below their 200-days; 19 of 45 are under their 20-days |
| Caveat | Cheap versus recent price history only; no valuation, earnings-quality or insider data in this source. Quality is judged from long-trend position and the thesis flag, not fundamentals |
| Key insight | A bounce out of oversold is not a repair: the consumer names that left the list are still below their 200-days with negative years |
What's Going On
The strict list emptied by bounce, not by repair. No stock closed under RSI 30. Lowe's (RSI 41.9) and Home Depot (41.3) rose into the low 40s, while McDonald's (36.7), PepsiCo (36.9), Nike (37.7) and Trade Desk (35.1) sit in the mid-to-high 30s. Every one of them is still below its 200-day — McDonald's by 18.2%, Lowe's by 19.2%, Nike by 27.7%, Trade Desk by 45% — with a negative year. The momentum washout eased; the long trends are unchanged.
Deere is the one near-miss with a healthy year. DE closed $620.93 at RSI 33.3, down 9.62% on the week and 4.85% on Friday, 8.5% under its 20-day, yet 4.8% above its 200-day ($592.45) with a one-year gain of 36.1%. Part of the drop has a source: Deere and other farm-equipment makers fell on October 7 after the FTC and the USDA opened an inquiry into market practices, including potential anticompetitive conduct (Bloomberg). Friday's 4.85% decline has no item on file — Deere's news was last pulled September 4, so news was not pulled for this move, and no October 9 capture or stock-event covers it. A regulatory overhang makes this a discount with a known risk, not a clean flag.
PepsiCo reported and cut its outlook. PepsiCo reported on October 8: the provider's earnings record shows EPS of $2.34 against a $2.30 consensus (basis not stated), and CNBC reported the company cut its earnings forecast as its North American turnaround takes longer than expected. The stock is flat on the week (+0.06%), down 1.85% on Friday, RSI 36.9 and 14.1% under its 200-day.
Quality dips are shallow. Qualcomm (RSI 44.4, 5.6% under its 20-day, 3.6% above its 200-day) and Thermo Fisher (54.4, 20.8% above its 200-day, one-year 23.07%) are the intact names under their 20-days. Caterpillar sits on its 200-day (-0.1%) with a one-year gain of 59.98%. Salesforce, Workday and Meta are above their 200-days but carry negative years.
The strong end is the opposite story. Palantir (RSI 76.3) and Zscaler (72.9, up 18.89% on the week) top the board; the leaders and the cheap names share almost nothing.
What Changed Since Prior Scan (2026-10-02 → 2026-10-09)
| Change | Read |
|---|---|
| Strict hits fell to zero — LOW, MCD, PEP, HD, NKE and TTD all left the sub-30 band | Every one is still below its 200-day with a negative year |
| Deere entered the near-miss band | Last edition it was mid-range and above its 20-day; the farm-equipment inquiry and a Friday drop pushed it down |
| INTU moved back above its 20-day | Still thesis-flagged broken and far below its 200-day |
| BKNG and SPGI — BKNG stayed in the 30s; SPGI recovered above 50 | Both remain below their 200-days |
| Semiconductor equipment cooled — KLAC and LRCX gave back ground on the week | Both remain above their 200-days |
| Security and Palantir extended — ZS and PLTR above RSI 70 | Not bargain candidates |
How To Read The Board
The strict screen is momentum under 30 with price under the 20-day average. When nothing passes, the board falls back to the closest misses (momentum 30-40, under the 20-day), ranked by a rough quality-times-discount judgment: names with an intact long trend (above the 200-day, positive year) outrank names that are simply cheap. This is raw screen evidence. A low RSI is not a buy; outside verification of the business is required before acting.

What To Watch Next
- Does anything re-enter the strict band? DE (33.3) is closest; TTD (35.1) is next but structurally broken.
- Deere's shelf and 200-day ($607.13 and $592.45), and any follow-through on the FTC/USDA inquiry.
- 200-day reclaims for the consumer cluster — MCD $287.73, PEP $146.68, LOW $230.08, HD $337.48. A bounce that stalls below these lines is a lower high, not a turn.
- Caterpillar on its 200-day ($801.33). A close back above keeps a 59.98% year intact; a break would add an industrial to the damaged list.
- INTU's thesis flag — still broken despite moving above its 20-day.
