Bargain Bin Scan
Bargain Bin Scan
Nothing passes the strict filter again — no stock in the 45-name universe closed under RSI 30 — but the cheap end changed hands. Last week's consumer and housing names bounced (Nike up 6.97%, Home Depot up 6.5%, Lowe's up 6.12%), and the closest misses are now semiconductor equipment, AI networking and industrials: Lam Research (RSI 30.3, down 17.22%), Caterpillar (30.7), KLA (31) and Arista (31.6). Arista, Marvell and AMD are the near-misses that still sit above their 200-day averages with strong years; Lam, KLA and Caterpillar fell under theirs this week.
Prices are the settled Friday, October 16 close from the price summaries; all 45 rows carry that date. Comparisons to the October 9 scan are direction-only.
Quick Snapshot
| Signal | Reading |
|---|---|
| Overall | 🟡 Empty strict list; the cheap end rotated from consumer and housing to AI hardware, semicap and industrials |
| Strict hits (RSI under 30, under 20-day) | 0 |
| Top-ranked near-miss (quality x discount) | ANET — RSI 31.6, -13.4% vs its 20-day, 8.8% vs its 200-day, 21.21% 1Y |
| Closest misses (RSI 30-40, under 20-day) | LRCX, CAT, KLAC, ANET, AVGO, NVDA, MRVL, ASML, AMD, ORCL — ten names, none on last week's list |
| Quality dips (under 20-day, at or above 200-day, RSI 40+) | DE, QCOM, AMZN, PLTR, META, ZS |
| Broken-thesis override | INTU — thesis flagged broken (-49.74% 1Y, -13.4% vs its 200-day) despite 7.4% on the week; excluded from ranking |
| Breadth | 24 of 45 names sit below their 200-days (22 on October 9); 20 of 45 are under their 20-days (19) |
| Caveat | Cheap versus recent price history only; no valuation, earnings-quality or insider data in this source. Quality is judged from long-trend position and the thesis flag, not fundamentals. Causes were not checked |
| Key insight | The washout moved to the group with the best one-year returns on the list (MRVL, AMD, LRCX, ASML, KLAC). That makes these pullbacks in strong trends, not distressed names — until the 200-day goes, as it just did for three of them |
What's Going On
The strict list is empty because nothing reached RSI 30, and the old oversold pocket kept bouncing. Nike rose 6.97% (RSI 58), Home Depot 6.5% (RSI 60), Lowe's 6.12% (RSI 58.4), PepsiCo 4.38% and McDonald's 3.29% (RSI 54.1 and 52). None repaired its long trend: every one remains under its 200-day with a negative year (Nike 21.7% under, Home Depot 7.9%, Lowe's 13.7%, McDonald's 15%). Walmart (up 6.7%, RSI 73), Costco (72.5) and CME Group (71.3) are now the only readings above 70.
The new cheap end is semicap and AI hardware. Lam Research closed $263.94 (down 17.22%), RSI 30.3, 16% under its 20-day and 6.4% under its 200-day, with a one-year gain of 85.39%. KLA closed $165.74 (down 15.25%, RSI 31), 8.4% under its 200-day, with a one-year gain of 50.84%. Caterpillar closed $730.76 (down 8.71%, RSI 30.7), 9.3% under its 200-day — it sat on the line a week ago — with a one-year gain of 35.09%. Arista closed $176.98 (down 18.34%, RSI 31.6), still 8.8% above its 200-day. Each of the four is within two points of the strict line. Cause not checked.
Intact trends in the band: Marvell, AMD, Nvidia, ASML. Marvell (down 17.24%, RSI 37.5) is 29.6% above its 200-day with a one-year gain of 158.22%; AMD (down 13.05%, RSI 37.8) 34.1% above its 200-day with a one-year gain of 125.42%; Nvidia (down 6.61%, RSI 37.5) 5.5% above its 200-day with the thesis flag intact; ASML (down 7.8%, RSI 37.7) 4.1% above its 200-day. Deere left the band: $641.86, up 3.37%, RSI 42.5, 7.5% above its 200-day, a one-year gain of 40.4%.
Where tape and thesis flag disagree. Oracle (down 9.31%, RSI 39.7) is 20% under its 200-day with a one-year loss of 59.03%, though its flag reads intact. Broadcom (down 9.07%, RSI 34.8) is 10.7% under its 200-day with a one-year loss of 7.17%, flag also intact. Intuit rose 7.4% to RSI 60.9 but stays 13.4% under its 200-day and flagged broken.
What Changed Since Prior Scan (2026-10-09 → 2026-10-16)
- Strict hits: zero again. The nearest reading was 33.3 (Deere) on October 9; it is 30.3 (Lam) now
- The near-miss list turned over completely. October 9: DE, TTD, BKNG, MCD, PEP, NKE, LULU. Now LRCX, CAT, KLAC, ANET, AVGO, NVDA, MRVL, ASML, AMD, ORCL
- Consumer and housing bounced further — LOW RSI 41.9 to 58.4; HD 41.3 to 60; MCD 36.7 to 52; PEP 36.9 to 54.1; NKE 37.7 to 58; TTD 35.1 to 42.8. all still under 200-days
- Deere left the band. RSI 33.3 to 42.5; up 3.37%
- CAT, KLAC and LRCX lost their 200-days. CAT was on its line (-0.1%); KLAC and LRCX were above theirs
- Breadth. Under 200-days 24 of 45 (from 22); under 20-days 20 (from 19)
- Overbought leaders. PLTR (76.3) and ZS (72.9) cooled to 46.3 and 51.4; WMT, COST and CME now lead
How To Read The Board
The strict screen is momentum under 30 with price under the 20-day average. When nothing passes, the board falls back to the closest misses (momentum 30-40, under the 20-day), ranked by a rough quality-times-discount judgment: names with an intact long trend (above the 200-day, positive year) and the deepest washout outrank names that are simply cheap, then names under the 200-day with a positive year, then names with a negative year. This is raw screen evidence; a low RSI is not a buy, and outside verification of the business is required before acting.
